Troy Patrick Zabawczuk, Amtrak Passenger, Dragged By Train, Dies

02/22/12 11:52 AM ET  AP

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Authorities in Rochester are investigating the death of an Amtrak passenger apparently dragged by a train after being kicked off for drunkenness.

Police tell local media that 44-year-old Troy Patrick Zabawczuk (zuh-BAW'-sick) of Schenectady got off the Chicago-bound train for unknown reasons after it arrived at the Rochester station early Wednesday morning. They say that when he tried to re-board, the conductor refused to let him back on because he'd disturbed other passengers earlier.

Police say Zabawczuk was apparently intoxicated.

They believe he tried to jump back on as the train left the station and was dragged a short distance.

His body was found soon afterward. He was pronounced dead at a hospital around 2:15 a.m.

A message has been left seeking Amtrak comment on its policy for ejecting passengers.

This man was drunk, tried to get back on the train and got his drunk self killed. As Axbo61 said it perfectly, "booze & trains never mix....". The booze kills more than anything, yet it is such a booming business. Just buy it and drink until intoxicated, then either cause an accident that kills innocent people or yourself. He accidentally killed himself due to his impairment by alcohol. (Just call me Captain Obvious)

Good news one less idiot in the world, I am glad he is dead.

Thats a pretty awful thing to say. The death of ANY human being lessens all of us. Many drunks have a pretty sad story. Maybe you should walk in their shoes; find out why they are drunks, before your vain attempts to judge.

So where did the booze come from? The bar car on the train???
11:43 PM on 02/23/2012
Yes Jeff, The booze came from the train and they forced it down his throat so he would become beligerent and abuse other passengers in the hopes he would chase the train, get caught, dragged and die. Are you by any chance an attorney?

Wow! You sure have a vivid imagination!
If he did get drunk on liquor served on the train, I don't think he should have been kicked off. Are you by any chance a bartender that has been sued because of your poor judgement?

The train, he was not drinking before he got on the train,

I think the train operator who ejected the passenger was negligent. If the passenger was highly intoxicated and dissruptive, then the operator should have called the police and waited for their arrival. Perhaps AMTRAK has security personnel at the station who could have been called for assistance. I realize the train operator has to keep to a schedule, but what would a few minutes have meant waiting for assistance as opposed to the man losing his life.

The train operator was doing his job.He had every right to deny a drunk passenger access to the train.

Quick...All you liberals better write to your Liberal/Socialist Congressman/Representative and DEMAND that Trains and Rail-Roads be banned...And that no one be allowed to use a rail road ever again...BECAUSE people can get killed by trains...Stands to reason...Gotta eliminate trains...It's the same logic as banning guns and taking all guns off the market...If you believe that "guns kill" instead of "bad people kill using guns", than the same applies..."trains kill" not "stupid people kill themselves by doing stupid things on/around trains"...It is time for all the Liberals to rise-up and get trains banned 'cause trains kill...And, while they are at it, they should push for a ban on kitchen knives and baseball bats and, maybe even, firewood logs and hiking boots because all of them can kill also !!!... Ha ;>)

So wait on another article they want to ban guns. But there are more deaths because of alcohol why aren't they screaming to ban that as well. It kills more adults, teens and even kids then guns to every year.
02:15 PM on 02/23/2012
bebause the people who make alcohol spend millions each year in washinton same with drug companies, look at the legal drugs, and yet ,im wrong for planting a seed, watching it grow, watering it, harvesting it like any other vegetable i grow and comsuming it
