CBS News Wants Bob Scieffer To Stay Longer...

When Bob Schieffer took up residence last March in the broadcast studio long occupied by Dan Rather, he assumed he would serve as interim anchor of the "CBS Evening News" for about two months.

Eight months later, Mr. Schieffer, like the network itself, has no better sense of when his hitch will end or when the next iteration of the "CBS Evening News" will begin. Last Tuesday, during his first week as president of CBS News, Sean McManus took Mr. Schieffer to lunch and made what Mr. Schieffer considered a modest request.
