Blunt Says He's Locked Votes For Majority Leader...
WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 - Representative Roy Blunt of Missouri said Saturday that he had firm commitments from enough House Republicans to be elected majority leader in an internal party election scheduled for Feb. 2.
In a statement, Mr. Blunt, who was elected in 2002 to the No. 3 post of majority whip, said that more than half of House Republicans had agreed to support him in his bid to replace Representative Tom DeLay of Texas, who stepped aside from the post in September after his indictment in Texas and who decided last week to abandon it for good.
