New Republic Editor Cameos In Porn Film

With The New Republic's recent decision to publish bi-weekly and reduce their page count, one might think that they need to come up with a few tricks to garner publicity. Enter New Republic assistant managing editor Britt Peterson and a column she wrote for TNR about appearing as an extra in an alt.porn film. Peterson's column is behind a subscription wall, but here's the experience in her own words:

The scene I graced was actually one of the tamer ones in The Fold (secretly, I was hoping to be cast in the hot tub scene--but no such luck). Along with about 20 other people, I played an anonymous colleague of Rachel Campanello (a feisty beat reporter for Gaming Babes magazine) at a press conference convened by evil corporate CEO Avery Ferguson to announce his eponymous company's production of a time-travel machine. Following this scene was another in which Stephanie Blommaert, a scheming Ferguson exec, coaxes Jack Fisher, the company's v.p. and a secret panty fetishist, into resigning by teasing him with her underwear.
