Colgate Finds Counterfeit Toothpaste, Possibly With Poisonous Chemical, In Four States

Colgate-Palmolive Co. said that counterfeit toothpaste falsely packaged as its Colgate brand, and possibly containing a poisonous chemical, has been found in several dollar-type discount stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

"There are indications that this product does not contain fluoride and may contain diethylene glycol," a poisonous chemical, the New York consumer-products giant said in a statement.
The company "does not use, nor has ever used, diethylene glycol as an ingredient in Colgate toothpaste anywhere in the world."
