By 12:30 a.m. on July 21, after waiting two and a half hours at the local Barnes & Noble, I finally had the seventh and final Harry Potter book in my hands. It all ended with a sleepless weekend filled with sporadic bouts of incessant crying, armed only with my light wedge (an LED book light) and several cans of Red Bull. I can imagine no more fitting way for Rowling to have ended this fantastic journey of the "Boy Who Lived."

But is that really the end? The late Ian Fleming's James Bond series outlived him. Author Sebastian Faulks is taking over. Book chain Borders polled 1,500 readers in the U.K., and they have some odd opinions about who should take over from Rowling. Their favorite, by far, is Irvine Welsh, author of the drug- and sex-filled novels Trainspotting and Porno.
