Fortune's Managing Editor Revels In First Round "Win" Over Portfolio
Fortune Managing Editor Andy Serwer is girding for round two of the Great Business Magazine War.
As Conde Nast's Portfolio plans to publish its second issue in a few weeks, I wouldn't blame Serwer for smirking and telling media pundits: "I told you so."
Earlier this year, to Serwer's chagrin, observers were seduced by the prospect of a Vanity Fair-like business publication, emerging in an otherwise staid, workaday niche. Before they even read the first issue, no less, some critics went so far as to suggest that Portfolio could blow away Fortune in a battle of the narrative-centric biz books.
