Ted Turner: Short $345 Million
PORTFOLIO, September issue, there's a vivisection on Ted Turner. "Ted's Pledge Hedge" article says he prom ised $1 billion to the U.N. 10 years ago but is, give or take a few bucks, short "$345 million."
Sept. '97 he declared "almost the entire sum the U.S. owed the U.N. in unpaid dues" he'd hand over "in $100 million chunks." The piece says the first two years he gave $83 mil and, last year, a sort of shriveled paltry chump change - $49.8 mil. At the magazine's press time, he'd only kicked in with a meager pitiful "$642 million."
