The breakthrough came on the second day of preparatory talks involving the country's most senior political leaders, Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi said in a statement.

"We reached agreement on a number of issues," the statement said. "The most important is the agenda for the summit and who will attend the meeting."

Well isn't that special let's see they have had what three years to get their act together?
and what about the rest of the members or will it just be one sided, kind of like the USA and it's political parties. Hey look Bush's plan is working their as divided as ever, Karl don't tell us, you've been at it over in Iraq haven't you? Setting up their system just like ours, ONE PARTY RULES! So, now you can declare victory and leave?

An all shi'ite and kurdish government agrees on a vague outline... great?

This war is going to go on forever and ever regardless of political futility. Just look at the latest White House attempt to extend this war as long as possible...

Yet another process right out of Southpark, except not funny at all. Step one: Set agenda; Step Two: ??? Step Three: Peace and happiness and oil for all.

How about the fact that the so called Patraeus report is not going to be written by anyone other than the WH, Bob? Do you think that there are a number of GOP congress members who are just slightly pissed off at this fact coming out last week? After all, they are running for re-election and have asked their constituencies to wait to see what this report contained.

Maybe the "bitch" of both the GOP congressman and the Dems will be that the report they have waited for all summer is going to be a stone cold whitewash.

Next they'll decide on the configuration of the table followed by the color of the drapes follwed by which bottled water to set around the table, which was decided upon earlier.

You've run out of bullets, Ammo.

The surviving members of the Sunni-abandoned Iraqi government hold a meeting amongst themselves and some people wrench their backs doing cartwheels.

Actually, political reconciliation with Kurds and a bloc of Shia, could force the Sunni's to come back to the table. If not, it's their loss, without participation they'll be ostracized to the point of political extinction. What the Shia actually want. Kurds already know they have a place at any Iraqi table.

You can call it a positive story but we have heard this line too many times before.

I hope that it does work, but it is NOT going to work with our interference.

Take a look at our own system of Democracy. Has our government been working since last January? The Republican obstructionists have impeded the progress of government every step of the way. If we can't make our own government work, it is the ultimate in arrogance and hypocrisy to think that we can guide the Iraqis.

We need to wishdraw our troops as soon as possible and leave them to untangle their own mess.

Note to HuffBots:

This story is about the Political Process moving forward.

As tough as things are, it is a step in the right direction.

It is a positive story.

I will enjoy the reading the negative spin the HuffBots put on the story.

PEACE

Thus spake the neocon, one of a group that have been so wrong so often that one wonders why they haven't been taken to the woodshed for a well-deserved beating.

It would be political progress if the OTHER guys agree to be there.

Otherwise, it's a circle-j*rk.

al-Maliki is in big trouble because he just can't get the criminal hydrocarbon law passed.

Bush is losing patience but Sunni's and Kurds are not playing ball on this law.

The basic facts on this law/crime are:

It was created by Dick Cheney and Exxon, Chevron, BP and Shell.

It formalizes the theft of Iraqi oil giving 80% to these multi national companies, leaving Iraq with only 20%.

It is also (in a most sly and sneaky fashion) supported by the Democratic party. They have played down this support and mass media has helped.

All current Democratic leadership hopefuls (except for the honest Dennis Kucinich) are on board with this immoral crime.

If this law is passed, it guarantees a hot insurgency for 20 more years as we steal their oil.

Do not support any Democrat who lies to you about their support of this oil law. All of the suffering of mothers, children and families in Iraq and of US service people is the result of this Dick Cheney plan to steal the oil.

One of the biggest reasons this is happening is that a huge majority of Americans do NOT know about it. Get informed, tell your friends and family the ugly truth. If enough people know the score we may be able to put a stop to this war crime.

This is right on point. Especially when you note Dick Cheney's comments made in 1994 up to 2000 about not wanting to occupy Iraq.

What changed Cheney's mind after 2000? How about the meeting with Enron, Exxon/Mobil, and all the major oil, energy companies on the policy the neocons wished to have during the Bush administration? The MSM do not seem to focus on this meeting and how Cheney's philosophy changed afterwards.

This is proof that the Iraqi government can get its act together.

We need to take a hands-off approach. Withdaw our troops, provide as much accountable aid as possible for rebuilding, and let them sort out their national politics.

We will NEVER be able to be a mediator or player in bringing the factions together for the good of Iraq.

We cannot even accomplish that goal, here, at home.
