Pentagon Will Miss Iraq Armored Vehicle Goal

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:44 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:10 PM ET

AP:

The Pentagon will fall far short of its goal of sending 3,500 lifesaving armored vehicles to Iraq by the end of the year. Instead, officials expect to send about 1,500.

Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell said Wednesday that while defense officials still believe contractors will build about 3,900 of the mine-resistant, armor-protected vehicles by year's end, it will take longer for the military to fully equip them and ship them to Iraq.

I think it's obvious we don't need the Terriorist to ruin our country the Republicans have done a good enough job!

Well, there goes Joe Biden's lame excuse for voting in favor of the last war-funding bill. Looks like Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama are off the hook on this one: even with the money, Bumbling Bush and his Band of Idiots can't get the armored vehicles to our troops. Both Clinton and Obama should bookmark this story so they have it handy when the lying Republican hit machine says during the general election campaign that their votes would have kept the troops from getting the armored vehicles that would have saved their lives.

Perhaps this guy just died for Bu$h because he didnt get a armoured vehicle in time?

Republican senator: Bush should begin Iraq withdrawal 22 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush should announce on September 15 a small initial pullout of U.S. troops from Iraq to spur the Iraqi government to take steps toward political reconciliation, an influential Republican senator said on Thursday.

Virginia Sen. John Warner said Bush should "announce on the 15th that in consultation with our senior military commanders he has decided to initiate the first step in a withdrawal of our forces."

Warner, a senior Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee who has pressed Bush to change his Iraq policy, suggested a withdrawal of "say 5,000" troops, who could be home by Christmas in December of this year.

Warner said the United States needed "to show that we mean business" when it says its commitment to Iraq is not open ended.

It's o.k. if they don't have enough equipment, because the Repukins are buying 15 million in ads to tell everyone how well it's going in Iraq, they just need a "Little" more time! Also, they all just slapped another "Support our troops" sticker on their car, so it's all good!

Who cares ?

Dead Troops = Halliburton Profits = Money in Dick Cheney's Bloody Pockets.

US Troops do not matter, they are a business expense for the Arms and oil industries - paid for by US Tax payers.

The Iraq War will continue in Perpetuity. Thousand more US troops will die, and Billions of dollars will be divided up by the Arms and oil idustries.

Bush/Cheney could not care less about dead troops, dead civilians, dead whomever.

Welcome to Amerika.

"You say the noble cause hallows every fight? I tell you it is the noble fight that hallows every cause." Nietzsche.

This is how Bubba Joe Nazcar sees Iraq. If Amurrica is fightin then the fight is right. Don't matter with who, where or who started it. Bubba Joe will fight fer his Gubmint. Just buy him some beer and give him a gun. But don't tell Bubba Joe he's a Nietzschean - he thinks that means you like little girls.

Too bad you fail to ubderstand Nietzche's aphorism. You just proved again that you have a very limited capacity for thought.

Oh, and you made a fool of yourself.

You seem very familiar with the concept of making a fool of yourself.

In looking at your posts, it is easy to why you possess such a familiarity.

A very sad day for me -- and many many Young Republicans.

It's that time again when we must console our fellow Republicans. Thousands of them will be sending their children off for the first time into a very dangerous world. Its hard work having your kids leave the home nest and go do their patriotic duty for this country.

Last night, I talked to many crying and grieving parents of Young Republicans. I cried with them. They're making the ultimate sacrifice for this country by sending their kids off. Yes, there were many tears shed and lots of emotional drama. However, all these Young Republican parents understood that their children need to serve this country by going off into the world on their own.

I would ask all you libs to say a prayer for my Young Repubican parents as they prepare to send their children off to college.

Thank you.

This war certainly has its "perks"... for al Qaeda.

They're now in more countries with thousands of new recruits.

The war in Iraq is being waged for three primary reasons. You can put them in any order that makes you happy.

1. Oil
2. Israel
3. Armageddon

Obviously, there can be overlap. Just because yer a Jewish intellectual and yer main concern is Israel - doesn't mean yer adverse to making mucho dinero from other peoples' oil wells. Paul Wolfowitz has nothing against a fast buck. Pat Robertson supports Israel fanatically even tho he don't like Jews so pretty good. His concern is the End of the World and it's supposed to start in Israel.

Don't forget Bush's ego, family profit ("Money trumps peace") and his failed attempt to "one-up" his daddy.

Apparently Father DID know best. But then again, so did Deferment Dick in 1994.

As far as this fraud (aka Iraq war) is concerned, your #2 is not supported by facts. Once you include the impending fraud (attack on Iran), then #2 is indeed true.

Your #1 is indeed #1.

A very informative article:

From Afghanistan to Iraq: Connecting the Dots With Oil
By Richard W. Behan
AlterNet
http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/47489/
Monday 05 February 2007

"In the Caspian Basin and beneath the deserts of Iraq, as many as 783 billion barrels of oil are waiting to be pumped. Anyone controlling that much oil stands a good chance of breaking OPEC's stranglehold overnight, and any nation seeking to dominate the world would have to go after it.

The long-held suspicions about George Bush's wars are well-placed. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were not prompted by the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. They were not waged to spread democracy in the Middle East or enhance security at home. They were conceived and planned in secret long before September 11, 2001 and they were undertaken to control petroleum resources."

These vechicals may do well against mines, but an IED constructed from 1 to 3 105 millimeter artillery shells can over turn a 70 ton tank. Will their armor stop an RPG round? George Bush constantly draws comparisons to WW2, yet by 1943 the US was out producing both Germany and Japan, the industrial base of that era which overwhelmed the most powerful war machines of the time. This would mean asking for corporate sacrifice as FDR did, not the war profiteering were seeeing today.

To play this crusade out like George Bush wants to, a real mobilization both in material and manpower (draft) not to mention true diplomatic effort is required. This administration is just not up to the task, an empty cod piece if you will.

I don't care where one falls ideologically about this war.

I want to know why our troops are not properly armoured when these politicians have millions and millions and millions of dollars to spend on polls and elections, not to mention the millions earmarked by the last Congress for our 'victory' celebration in D.C.

HOW ABOUT SOME OVERTIME GUYS????????
09:27 AM on 08/23/2007
How much do we suppose has been spent on building bases (14)? Or the Embassy? On private contractors?

Yet, troops with PTSD and severe brain injuries can't get the medical attention they need here at home and the ones in theater can't be provided with proper equipment. Pathetic.

I want to know why our troops are not properly armoured ...

----------

Our Pentagon budget is more than what the combined military budget of the rest of the world. Lack of money isn't the problem. The problem is in their priorities.

Their top priority is to ensure profits for our corporations, not minimizing death and injury to our soldiers, or to Iraqi civilians.

We have criminals running our country, on behalf of a few US corporations.

Another comparison to Viet Nam... how many more lives is it worth to "save face"?

From Cato:

The issue of credibility was so central to America's Vietnam policy that tens of thousands of Americans died in the pursuit not of vic tory but of saving face. They died because American leaders believed then -- as the Bush administration apparently believes now -- that defeat would have uncontrollable consequences."

On Sept. 11, 1967, the intelligence community issued a secret memo titled "Implications of an Unfavorable Outcome in Vietnam." In it, the authors considered the many dire predictions that had been made about the dangers if the United States were to withdraw from Vietnam. The memo concluded that the perils of accepting an unfavorable outcome would be "probably more limited and controllable than most previous argu ment has indicated." Further, the memo argued, "it should not be be yond the capacity of our leadership and diplomacy to negotiate this passage.

When the memo was written, fewer than 20,000 Americans had died in Vietnam. By the time the Nixon administration finished whispering about a "decent interval," Vietnam had claimed the lives of more than 58,000 Americans.

"War has its' perks." This explains the support of the Shotgun Dick Cheney segment of Iraq war supporters. Selling stuff to the Pentagon. No-bid reconstruction contracts. And of course, there's oil in them thar hills of Iraq. The Cheney Gang is just one of the group of supporters - there are others.
