Senate To Hold Hearing On Utah Mine Collapse: Murray And Stickler Invited To Testify

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:44 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:10 PM ET

The Salt Lake Tribune:

The chairman of the U.S. Senate committee that oversees workplace safety today sought a massive load of documents relating to Utah's Crandall Canyon Mine.

That request, made to the Department of Labor, comes as congressional scrutiny begins of the coal mine where three rescue workers died last week, and six miners remained trapped and feared dead.

Herre we go again. The do nothig congress will not ask the tough questions to the Bush WH, but the soft ball questions to others to make themselves look good. What a sham. Lets see, Gonzo the liar is still the AG. Damn, this congress has balls they go right for the throat don't they. They are as worthless as W and his rich cornies.

What is the point of this except maybe some photo-ops for the 2008 campaigns? Lots of politicians wringing their hands, dabbing their eyes with hankies.

Over the past 20-30 years, the only thing that working people in this country have gotten is a kick in the pants. Their jobs are taken away and sent to other countries. The politicians agree among themselves to stop enforcing immigration laws, so millions of immigrants flood the job market, take away more jobs, allow employers to pay under the table, avoid workers comp, no payroll taxes, no health and safety, health insurance, and retirement. And both political parties have been taking bribes from these corporations who are killing the working men and women of this country.

Way too late now for the politicians to pretend they care. These miners wouldn't be dead if the politicians did their jobs, and both enacted and enforced health and safety laws to prevent such deaths.

It's just as well that the mine owners won't even go in to get the miners' bodies, because their families probably don't even have enough money to pay for a funeral.

Senate hearings. Just another chance to pontificate in front of cameras. Look at us. Don't we look official? Aren't we working hard? Now go back to sleep, America!

Ye, this is without a doubt another national tragedy brought on by a souless administration.

BUT

When will we see an congressional hearing on the use of depleted uranium as a weapon in Iraq

When will we see an congressional hearing on the shameful number of Americans living below the official poverty level?

When will we see an congressional hearing on the reason that thousands of Katrina survivors, after 2 fucking years, are still living imprisoned in isolated FEMA trailer camps?

When will we see an congressional hearing on the staggering loss of jobs under the Bush mis-administration?

When will we see an congressional hearing on the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia knowing that the 19 9/11 murderers were citizens of that country?

When will we see an congressional hearing on continued U.S. support for brutal dictatorships in Eastern Europe/Eurasia, Africa and Central/South America?

When will we see an congressional hearing on the looting of the treasury as a result of the president's 'faith based initiative'?

When will we see an congressional hearing on the alleged, and highly likely voter fraud in the last 2 presidential elections?

When will we see an congressional hearing on the impact of Bush's 'no child left behind' policies, and the no-bid contract to create standardized testing materials for our schools to his fucking brother's company?

When will we see an MEANINGFUL congressional hearing on healthcare(one that is not just posturing)

I could go on for ever.

Oh well, I guess its somewhat comforting to know that when democrats fuck us they at least use Lube

Murray doesnt have to worry about paying 100 grand for a clinton pardon. He has already paid Bush a lot more than that for a pardon. He will would get at least the Scooter treatment, if not a full pardon. That is, if it got that far. Which I for one dont see it happening.
You know , maybe since Bush speaks directly to God and Jesus, maybe he could ask them to perform an exorcism on the EVIL moutain. Then Murray can re-open the mine and kill some more workers in the name of the ole mighty dollar.

Realistically though, I think Murray is telling the truth, he wont work That Exact Mine anymore. He will either start a new one right next to it, create a new entrance to it, or he already has a buyer ready to take over and open the mine back up.

It's hard to know what Murray will do because we can't go by his word. It's worthless.

If the mine has ample reserves, Murray will probably enter the mine in the future when he thinks the circumstances are right.

Or is it that he just can't recall?

More Bush cronyism. Murray from Cheney's energy group and Stickler from the Bush stooge machine. Bush's corporate death machine rolls on at home and around the world. "Brownie" Stickler and "Seismic" Murray would make great theater trying to out cry one another. Robert Murray cares about his miners the way Bush cares about his troops and with the same results and like all failed mine managers with blood on their hands and the right political connections, Stickler is put in charge of the very thing he has shown no competence or regard for....safety. What a rabbit hole this government has fallen into.
04:09 PM on 08/23/2007
Don't forget GOP Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who received donations from Murray and who Murry bragged was his good friend.

McConnell is also husband of Sec. of Labor Elaine Chao, who was unsurprisingly lax about mine worker issues.

In fact, Murray once threatened a mine inspector by saying he was good friends with McConnell who, he said, "sleeps with your boss."

I do hope that is brought up in hearings.

Mitch McConnell has the biggest ass hole in the US Congress. Why would the state of Ky with all its poverty put this corporate ass kissing fool in office. Especailly a sate with mines. His wife is another corporate ass kisser. Shes the Chinese gal that that testifies quite often. I think she is his third wife. Damn these republicans marry often dont they.
