If President Bush is serious about getting tough on U.S. employers who hire illegal aliens, he can start with his own administration, which employs thousands of unauthorized workers, says the top Republican on the House immigration subcommittee.

A 2006 audit showed federal, state and local governments are among the biggest employers of the half-million persons in the U.S. illegally using "non-work" Social Security numbers -- numbers issued legally, but with specific instructions that the holders are not authorized to work in the U.S.

When will working class Republicans wake up to the fact that it is primarily their own Republican businessmen who are creating the problem by hiring undocumented workers to drive down labor costs to increase their personal fortunes. Desperately poor people will naturally try to live a better life. Why be angry at them? Be angry at the cause which is unscupulous business practices. It's what happens when business operates without effective governmental oversight. It is an age old tactic for corporate owners to get workers to squabble amongst themselves so they don't focus on the real problem.

Your absolutely correct except both DemocRAT and Republican parties want the illegals here in the country. Both parties listen to their corporate and small business masters.

But somehow you feel the need to use the disparaging term DemocRATs, even though you admitted that both parties are responsible, that makes your otherwise non-partisan statement seem, well kind of partisan.

Hack.

Well that explains why nobody in government is doing anything about illegal immigration...

Hell, why have borders at all? Let's just open up the whole country to anyone who wants to come in and eliminate the paper altogether?

I’m so sick of the hypocrisy in both parties that I just simply don’t care who comes in. If Mexicans and South Americans want work, give ‘em a job. If they don’t want to learn the language, then we don’t communicate with them. If an Islamic extremist slips in undetected, then I guess we fight them here.

Let’s all just have one big group hug, go into our corners and let the shit fly.

I have to say that this administration is shooting itself in the foot (and THAT would be a first, right?). If they make all these illegal immigrants legal, the workers will have rights and may not accept the crap wages they are currently being paid. Then EVERYONE is unhappy.

When they become legal, more illegal immigrants will replace them, and the beat goes on. Just like when Ronnie RayGun provided his amnesty, then it 2 or 3 million, now its 12 to 20, who could guess that would happen again?

Steve King is obviously a liberal pantywaist who supports terrorists and hates America. Oh, and he can expect the G.O.P. to spy on him from now on, and to funnel monies to his opponent on the sly if he runs for re-election.

Not surprising. Consider the source tho-Washington Times isn't that the conservative mouthpiece owned by Rev. Moon?

As long as anyone who wants to provide jobs at crappy wages/benefits and there are people who can fill them they'll find a way to get to those jobs, illegal, undocumented, and otherwise or not. Government AND private industry are both guilty.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:31 AM on 08/23/2007

You say the Washington Times is conservative, well isn't Bush a bit conservbative too. Yes Business is as guilty as sin, but just becuase they offer the opportunity to commit a crime does not obsolve the illegals from their crime of taking those jobs. I know so many don't understand this but we are not really helping the Mexican paople by opening our borders, we only help them into servitude and prolong the long over due civil dissorder that will need to take place in Mexico to even out the wealth distribution.

I find it so hard to believe that people who support illegal immigration cannot see any downside to it. As far as I am concerned if Kennedy and Bush are for it, by definition that has to mean trouble. They represent both extremes of America, the Business first crowd and the melting pot is half full crowd, they are both so very wrong. Case in point: here in Minnesota roofing used to pay $11.50/hr back in the 80’s, and was done by low income, disadvantaged, often minority Americans, now in 2007 the same job pays $6.50-8.50/hr and it is almost all illegals from Mexico. Now keep in mind the home owner is still charged the same $3k-10k to have the roof done, so where does all that extra savings go, to the business owner. Usually a fat white troll who is more than happy to take advantage of all concerned while making a hefty profit. Is this what the open borders people want, I don’t get it? Mexico is not poor, it just needs some civil unrest to restore the power to the people! And in the US we need to reduce the number of workers so that unions, individuals and companies that play by the rules get rewarded not punished.

In many of these situations, the employee is being paid under the table, so the employer isn't paying taxes but neither is the employee. A person making gross 8.50 an hour is making more or equivalent to 11.50 net per hour.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:50 PM on 08/23/2007

Sorry, I can't speak to your example since you did not give one, in the example I stated as in most, it is as I stated, lower wages. But of course you do point out another major problem, they are not paying taxes, yet on average they use a disproportionate amount of social services, thus draining what they are not paying for. And to add insult to injury, they take much of that money out of the community and send it out of the country to build up Mexico not the local community.

The bottom line is that those who employ illegal immigrants are doing so deliberately because they want to pay crap wages for jobs most people don't want to do.

There is nothing wrong with a company making profit providing it is made without exploitation. I think we can safely assume that there isn't a single illegal immigration who is being paid a fair wage.

With the influx of all those illegals they will drag down our way of life and then we will like Mexico sooner or later. Enough if we get the
legal aliens and incorporate then into our
system but "illegal." Our ancestors were all
LEGAL.

This is proof that there really is a God. Huffington Post is using an article from the conservative Washington Times and quoting conservative Duncan Hunter, who hits the nail on the head.

This President and the likes of Trent Lott, Teddy Kennedy and John McCain are doing virtually nothing to stop the flow of illegals who are taking jobs, using up taxpayer dollars on public services, taking up space in emergency rooms, and killing or murdering at least 2,500 American citizens yearly.

Well, if you won't enlist for Iraq, how about applying for a border guard job? Or is that one of those jobs only an illegal alien would take?

Undocumented Workers are the heart and soul of America. I applaud President Bush for giving them the same opportunities my grandparents received.

If they were in this country illegally, don't you think Mr. Bush would want them out just like he wants those illegals in Iraq out?

You really are a looney lib.

Wow, that's a lot more damage than what is caused by the evil-doing freedom haters, perhaps they are secretly working with the Islamo-fascists(TM 2003-07 Newscorp)to destroy America.

You better do something about those damn republicans like the president who are doing virtually nothing pubicpus, after all you voted for them. But you can do something to help, stop hiring illegals to work on your golf courses.

Hello?? These are UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS, not illegal immigrants. There's a big difference, you looney libs.

Besides, they're doing work you lazy libs refuse to do. Like driving President Bush around in his golf cart.

Young Republicans like me employ them all the time to drive us around to our monthly meetings.

I would volunteer to drive the Chimp around in his golf cart...we would take the Mexican superhighway and right as we crossed the border we would "run out" of gas. Oooops or Mission Accomplished--you decide.

This makes me wonder how bad our data infrastructure is if we can't filter out illegals when they apply for a federal job. I am sure we don't make the same mistakes when looking for terrorists entering the country...glad the Adminstation has that all nailed down and made this a centerpiece of their GWOT.

A lot of "federal" jobs (especially the low-level ones) are contracted out to private companies these days. Unfortunately there is little oversight of contractor's hiring practices and background checks.
