Giuliani Brags Of Budget Surplus, But Left NYC With A Bigger Deficit Than When He Took Office

New York Times:

Rudolph W. Giuliani has been broadcasting radio advertisements in Iowa and other states far from the city he once led stating that that as mayor of New York, he "turned a $2.3 billion deficit into a multibillion dollar surplus."

The assertion, which Mr. Giuliani has repeated on the trail as he has promoted his fiscal conservatism, is somewhat misleading, independent fiscal monitors said. In fact, Mr. Giuliani left his successor, Michael R. Bloomberg, with a bigger deficit than the one Mr. Giuliani had to deal with when he arrived in 1994. And that deficit would have been large even if the city had not been attacked on Sept. 11, 2001.

Sounds like the same math that Bush and his economic idiots use!
01:53 PM on 08/25/2007
so here's the strategy:

Repeat the lie
Repeat the lie
Have Limbaugh repeat the lie
Have Hannity repeat the lie
Have FOX and Friends Repeat the lie
Repeat the lie again

Voila, now it's the truth!!!!

MissingAmerica is so right--when you compare what George W. Bush and Rudolph W. Giuliani sell us as foreign policy they are like twins--with one exception: The neo-conservative architects of the Iraq War are no longer in the administration but Rudolph W. made one of the founding father of neo conservatism and advocate of military actions against Iran, Norman Podhoretz, a member of his foreign policy team.

Once again, he proves himself to be the person most able to fill Bush's boots. Hopefully, we've learned enough to kick Bush's boots out of town, along with those who would fill them. We must impeach Bush and replace him with an honest, intelligent, diplomatic person, if there is one left in the political arena.

Since when does the "truth" matter?

The American people don't care about
the "truth".

If they did, the dude sitting in the

White House

would not

be there............

Rudy just understands the American people

HE REALLY REMINDS ME OF A USED CAR SALESMAN TRYING TO SELL CARS THAT HAVE BEEN IN FLOODS UP TO THIER ROOFS AND SAYING THEY ARE IN GOOD "CLEAN" CONDITION READY TO GO.

You'll have to speak up---we can't hear you.

Caps-lock is NOT your friend.

Stop shouting and being so rude.

GUILIANI SHOULD REMEMBER IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE (OR IN HIS CASE TRUE), DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. THIS WAY HE WOULD BE KNOWN AS THE SILENT CANDIDATE...CAUSE ALL HE DOES IS LIE.
09:55 AM on 08/25/2007
This is just another example of a any candidate making a statement that they know is not true because they figure the dumbass voters will never bother to investigate or the mainstream media won't give a damn. So who cares. Just lie and get away with it. Its time for the voters of this country to become educated and put this type of scum politician where they belong. Away from DC.

One question: Where are the trolls in defense of Rudy?

I never see anyone coming to Huffington to say what Rudy has done well. Hmmmm...

I believe there's only one word to describe Rudy:

Narcissistic.
10:38 AM on 08/25/2007
Or Fascistic.
Or both.

Il Duce Rudy is quite willing to lie through his teeth to get power.

That's why he's a Republican.
It's a requirement.

Giuliani is just doing what he has done for years....taking credit for other peoples accomplishments. Giuliani took credit for cleaning up NYC, despite the fact that everyone knows it was the NYPD and law enforcement officials who really brought doen crime in NY, but of course "King Rudy" never mentions those guys.

According to Giuliani he pretty much single handidly took down the mob. I guess the FBI, other US attorney's and the NYPD just sat on the sidelines in the 80's and 90's while Rudy did all the work against the Mafia.

And then of course there is the myth of Rudy on 9/11. Apparently all the brave NYFD, Port Authority, NYPD, and EMS workers did very little on 9/11. I guess Giuliani saved the city
while all those guys took the day off.

Funny how Giuliani never seems to take the credit for the things he has actually done, like
putting the command center in the WTC to begin with, and having faulty equipment sent to the Firemen and service workers. And then there is the fact that he lied to rescue workers about the air at ground zero, but I guess all that stuff doesn't count. And this loser thinks he is going to be president...keep dreaming Rudy.
