Although Vick has been almost universally condemned since agreeing to plead guilty to dog fighting conspiracy, according to Foxx, people should not be so quick to judge the NFL star.

"It's a cultural thing, I think," Jamie said. "Most brothers didn't know that, you know. I used to see dogs fighting in the neighborhood all the time. I didn't know that was Fed time. So, mike probably just didn't read his handbook on what not to do as a black star."

Foxx said, "It's a cultural thing."

If he's right, the culture is sick. Several years back, I began to wonder if I was becoming racist since I was finding a lot I didn't like about too high a percentage of blacks. Then, I visited Canada and England and the islands. My crappy attitudes toward blacks didn't apply at all. There, the only difference was just the skin color.

My problem here IS a cultural thing -- the culture of too many (certainly not all) U.S. blacks: A culture of animal cruelty, a culture of defensiveness, a culture of jumping to the defense of the indefensible, a culture of playing the black card indiscriminately.

To be sure, the U.S. blacks have valid complaints against what slavery brought and against racist attitudes. They are NOT without valid arguments at all. That said, it would be nice if playing the victim would cease to be a reflexive response. To defend brutality as "a cultural thing" is to be without a moral compass.

I regard individuals based upon their personal behaviors, not on the basis of what color they are. I do it unapologetically. If a man wants to defend brutalizing dogs or walk away from his family or substitute some perverse concept of cool for adult behavior, then I don't care how politically incorrect it may be. I have no use for THAT man.

Foxx's implication that Vick did nothing more than upset the man is ludicrous. His equation of all cultures is also ludicrous. One CAN say that cultures that embrace animal cruelty are inferior to those that don't. One CAN say that torturing an animal to death is wrong. Too bad that Foxx has never re-examined what he evidently came to regard as normal. Too bad that Vick and Foxx just don't get it.

our problem is, we think actors and singers, band members, and hangers-on, have a real thought in their head: to get where they are, you have to be singular in thought and ambition:

the second part of this is; talent is more important than morals and established performers have to establish a standard that allowed them to be accepted by the public.

actors suck as being "leaders of the norm"...!!!

Who's defending? I asked what should be done to the thugs in D.C., and your response is to shoot the messenger. Which comes as no suprise...

The Vick story associates him with lynching, electrocution, torture, sadism, brutality, etc. He is also worth a few hundred million bucks or less.

He must have had some great teachers. It's almost as if he took lessons from the Ku Klux Klan and the Bush administration. Is Vick a Republican?

No, there isn't any book to read on how to be a star.

Seeing dogs fight in a neighborhood is natural. They stop fighting when one becomes dominant. Dogs that are trained to fight, fight to the death.
There is no excuse for Vick's actions. These are helpless creatures that are taught to act in a specific manner.
Jaime, you have no right to make this a "black" issue. It is not that at all.
Here is a man with everything anyone could ask for in front of him. A man that young people look up to.
Tell me, Jaime, why would he involve himself in something as hideous as this?
There is no reason for his actions. It is not because he is black that he got busted. He is a national figure that our youth look up to and he dropped the ball, Jaime.
He should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
The creatures he harmed were innocent. They were made to behave like beasts.
You have no right defending this man. He is wrong and he will pay the price.

I bet that if they did the right autopsy report on these dogs, the would find that they had been sexually abused as well.

This men are not just evil, they are perverted with greed.

Yet another person defending the indefensible.

It's no wonder we have the government we have.

BTW--please!--read my post carefully; don't retort that I'm defending or maaking excuses for Vick's actions. Or that I'm playing the race card. Or that I don't care about animals. Any of these responses would be knee-jerk non sequiturs.

If MV has to spend time for killing an animal for losing a fight--which, I agree is a disgustingly cruel action, but not worthy of doing hard time--then what should happen to Bush-Cheney for concocting and executing an immoral, bloody, trillion dollar+ war or I should say invasion? Thousands of HUMAN BEINGS have lost their lives and limbs, and even more families have been devastated emotionally and financially over this heinous crime. Where is the collective outrage over this? Yet we're ready to tar and feather a dog-fighting promoter, who hasn't hurt one human being. This is too twisted for words. And lordy be, he might have gambled on the outcome. We sanction more gambling--on just about anything--than anywhere else on the planet. This is hypocrisy on steroids.

I agree with the barbaric aspect of DF; but where is the palpable outrage when these internet child molesters get caught by the dozens! It's not, and I'd love to know why. I don't see the vitriolic protestations or 24/7 coverage by the media. Are dogs getting killed more disturbing than kids getting molested by pedophilic monsters?

Is it because MV is a high-profile NFL QB? Because he makes more money than the average human he should be treated more harshly? If a hillbilly in Appalachia got caught doing this, first, we'd never know about it. Second, he'd get a slap on the wrist at most by the local Barney Fife. Get a grip people...I respect your honor for dogs, but MV's offense pales in comparison to other, more heinous atrocities.

Imus was fired, and rightly so, for his comments re: Rutgers' women basketball team. As a white woman I believe he SHOULD NOT be allowed to return to the airwaves at all. (Hear that CBS??) Being penalized for dogfighting and animal cruelty, has nothing to do with race and having a "handbook" on what is the correct thing. It has to do with being HUMANE. Mr. Foxx, the "handbook" you speak of to me, should mean that every human being should have compassion, kindness and avoid exploitation of everyone and everything. Your comments are a disgrace and until you apologize, for what it's worth, I won't "consume" any movie or cd that you create. Imus shouldn't return and Vick, should be punished. These animals suffered needlessly. I also contribute to Amnesty Intl, and am a member of ACLU; etc., etc., I believe in kindness and compassion for all = that is MY HANDBOOK== what's yours?
PLUS : a young man is on death row who needs help in getting the Georgia Parole to rehear his case. He has had a stay of execution for probably (now about 60 days or less).. His name is Troy Davis. I think he needs all the support he can get. Google his name...
That's my handbook, Mr. Foxx

The same people outraged over the killing of American dogs don't show the same outrage over Iraqis getting blown to bits.

And surely you people can disagree with Jaime Foxx's position without resorting to writing racist crap?

Babies get ripped apart by doctors ever day during an abortion.

Let me know when you put that atrocity on the same level as dogs fighting.

But you can't because it's ingrained in your philosophy.

Liberalism, at it's very core, is a hatred of people.

When will you put the slaughter of tens of thousands of Iraqis on par with dog fighting. Oh that's right, you won't because war mongering and hatred are in your republican blood.

I believe Vick is getting a raw deal because he is a black man. Where is Jesse and AL? Where is Jesse and Al on the NJ killings? Oh I forgot the killers weren't white and there was no whitey (or corporation) to shake down for cash!

A black man shouldn't be held to the same standards as a white man. If a black man is responsible for a child, he should NEVER EVER have to pay child support. That is what welfare is for! And the stats show it, something like 80% of black kids are born out of wedlock.

Jefferson shouldn't be held for taking bribes. A black man should be above the law, like the president!

Michael Vick should not be going to prison and he should be doing what Vick does best, run the football on Sunday.

IronMike, be nice. Because most blacks are decent law-abiding people. Just like whites. Yes, unfortunatley, the 5-10% are the ones who make the news. For all races...As for those NJ killings, I challenge we get a post on that. I doubt if it'll happen. Read the Chicago Sun-Times (8/24), Michael Sneed's column, and you'll see why.

He must not have read the handbook on how to be a human being either. What a disgusting person Jamie Foxx must be to try to excuse this behavior, and even more disgusting, try to make it a race thing. How do you condone hurting animals.
