A demonstration has been held in south- east Afghanistan accusing US troops of insulting Islam after they distributed footballs bearing the name of Allah.

The balls showed the Saudi Arabian flag which features the Koranic declaration of faith.

The US military said the idea had been to give something for Afghan children to enjoy and they did not realise it would cause offence.

The footballs were dropped from a helicopter in Khost province.

Doesnt this administration have someone to check their facts, as in someone who can read about etiquette and protocol - or have they fired all the career statesmen and ambassadors in this Country? After all these years, they are still unaware of the cultural and religious differences between the USA, the Middle Eastern Nations, and this World at-large. If they would take their noses out of (fill in the blank) they could see how disasterous their behavior is.

This administration is used to making up their own facts. Cranial rectosis doesn't allow you to look around and see what reality is.

i think It is the Fault of the Saudis to choose a verse of the Quran to put on their flag , the US soldiers did not know about that verse on that ball and thought they were going to make the Afghans happy.

Those saudis putting that verse of the Quran thought they ll brainwash people for ever who would never question their leadership because they are so close to islam , and rubbish like that . my own grandmother wont allow any criticism of saudis , because she thinks they are closely related to the Prophet .
the saudis were very angry when their flag (among so many) were shown during the worldcup games on Brotherls ads , on huge posters with half naked women .

Yeah, no kidding... hard to go anywhere without seeing WWJD stamped on everything from key chains to plastic bracelets, dash board icons to bumper stickers.

Of course a lot of the Christian idiots that buy this crap are no different than the Islamic idiots that just want to crush, kill, destroy anything that is not exactly how they feel it should be according to the warped beliefs that have nothing to do with the actual teachings of either faith.

I think "I HATE RELIGION" would have been suffice.

Since the Koran is so sacred to these people (they even have specific guidelines to handle the Koran) the proper comparison is if you took the Ten Commandments or the Lord's Prayer and printed it on condoms, birth control pills, and porn magazines and then dropped them into school yards for kids to pick up.

This was a stupid but honest mistake that should not invoke a protest. But one must look a little deeper into this to see that these people have little patience left at this point because of serial insensitivity.

Why shouldn't they protest?

People in America get to protest when they want to. Why shouldn't Afghans be able to protest, too?

The Americans who did this screwed up. They didn't bother to ask a cultural expert (e.g. someone in our foreign office) to review their bright idea. I have no problem with people from Afghanistan saying, "Hey! Stop insulting our religion!"

It's their human right to do so.

Just because it is their right doesn't mean it isn't an overreaction.

No wonder they're mad. How would YOU like to have the flag of Saudi Arabia inscribed on YOUR balls.

It may not be offensive to you or I, but it is beyond insanity for our government not to demonstrate a kernel of cultural sensitivity (not to mention competence) to the region. Why go out of our way to make them dislike us?

The soccer balls were not for infidels but Afghan children.

Even so, you can still take your fucking break!

We continue to prove just how little we know about

the cultures of people and how little we care to know.

A thousand "Mea Culpa" statements can't explain away

these jackass errors even when made with good intentions because

of basic laziness and stupidity.

UNBELIEVABLE!

These folks seem to be insulted
very easily.

Danish cartoons, Rushdie, soccer balls....

I really don't think I'll get
suicidal over this one.

With that opium crop, who has time for soccer anyway??

Speaking of jackasses...

I suppose we would have been more sensitive about putting the face of Christ on a soccer ball for kids to kick around in the dirt?

But perhaps not. I have seen all kinds of crude, cheesy, offensive junk in so-called "religious" stores in America and in Europe.

But a ten-second review of the soccer balls' design by a cultural expert would have told them ixnay on the Saudi Flag.

The problem is, cretins like you and your ilk WANT to be as offensive, as crude, and ugly as possible to the Afgan and Iraqi people who have never done YOU or anyone you know a moments' worth of harm.

Because you're bullies.

I wonder how Blutus would feel about kicking an American flag around in the dirt.

Is there no end to the number of things this administration can fuck up or the ways in which they can accomplish that? We can rest assured that somebody somewhere is always doin' a heckofajob thanks to Bush.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:04 PM on 08/26/2007

Hey Blutus,

I think you might be just a tad sensitive when a foreign force occupying your country, a force which accidently bombed your cousin's wedding party wiping out most of your extended family or stormed your house in the middle of the night and took away your father, the sole support of your family, with no explanation or bombed your village hoping to kill some Taliban fighters, who are long gone---just a couple from the news of our PR problems in Afghanistan.

So you might wonder when the same force rains soccer balls on your town without warning bearing a sacred Koranic prayer and the name of your most revered God. The implication is: You think that my god Allah is only worth kicking around on a dusty field in a kids game.

Does the United States of America have a tin ear or what? Are we so arrogant and to believe that if we decide in our munificence to drop some stupid gift on people that is must be viewed as we view it. Are there no cultural attaches with some rudimentary knowledge of Afghan sensibilities in PsyOps?

Hey pal, we shouldn't be there in the first place.
Ok?

I don't give a popcorn fart about these people
and if they ever invade my country
I will blow them to the planet Mars.

These people need no excuse to have demonstrations.

But thanks for sharing.

Manufactured in China, the soccer balls also contained enough toxins to qualify as a violation of the Geneva Conventions ban on chemical weapons attacks on civilians!
