Roll Call reports:

Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was arrested in June at a Minnesota airport by a plainclothes police officer investigating lewd conduct complaints in a men's public restroom, according to an arrest report obtained by Roll Call Monday afternoon.

Craig's arrest occurred just after noon on June 11 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. On Aug. 8, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in the Hennepin County District Court. He paid more than $500 in fines and fees, and a 10-day jail sentence was stayed. He also was given one year of probation with the court that began on Aug. 8.

A spokesman for Craig described the incident as a "he said/he said misunderstanding," and said the office would release a fuller statement later Monday afternoon.

After he was arrested, Craig, who is married, was taken to the Airport Police Operations Center to be interviewed about the lewd conduct incident, according to the police report. At one point during the interview, Craig handed the plainclothes sergeant who arrested him a business card that identified him as a U.S. Senator and said, "What do you think about that?" the report states. [...]

According to the incident report, Sgt. Dave Karsnia was working as a plainclothes officer on June 11 investigating civilian complaints regarding sexual activity in the men's public restroom in which Craig was arrested.

Airport police previously had made numerous arrests in the men's restroom of the Northstar Crossing in the Lindbergh Terminal in connection with sexual activity.

In 1982, Craig went on network news to deny rumors involving cocaine and sex with male pages.

In October 2006, gay activist Mike Rogers published allegations on his blog that Craig was homosexual; Craig called the allegation "completely ridiculous".

So, what went on in the those middle 24 years?

Rove said.. it's all a political witchhunt that Republican Larry Craig was arrested for licking another mans penis..

More evidence supporting the notion that conservatism, particularly extreme forms of it, is a sort of psychological disorder.

These people are sick.

All I know is, this "wide stance" business has me chuckling with mirth.

I can't help but feel sorry for Mr. Craig, though. Christ, to be 62 and still cruising for anonymous same sex humping?

Ya know...There is something sadly pathetic in it all. Here he is in a fraudulent marriage ( at age 40) and an old man cruising for anonymous sex in public crappers.

If he had come to terms with his own sexuality he could have settled down in a stable rewarding gay relationship with someone he cared about instead of living a 45 year lie and fraud.

The ONLY reason I would feel sorry for him, is the fact that NOBODY could come out of the closet back then. But THAT'S where my sympathy ENDS!

Now, 45 years later, he COULD stand up for HIMSELF, and The GLBT Community, but CONTINUES to vote ANTI-GAY. There is NO EXCUSING THAT "BEHAVIOR"!!!

Stay safe, healthy and happy,
Love, Loretta

Another self-appointed moralist, gets caught
with his pants down. Can you imagine the
outrage, the 24/7 coverage if these were
Democrats? The Republicans would be going
crazy with their attacks on the Democrats and
their lack of "family values." But when it's
Vitter another self-appointed moralist, who
visits whore houses, or Craig, working mens
washrooms, it's totally ignored.
It's just delicious to watch these bastards
get exposed for what and who they really are.
The only thing that could make this better is
Orin Hatch with a hooker.

It's in the karma.

Craig is destined for reincarnation as a urinal cake.

And the way some maintenance services work, he'll be sitting in some urinal for longer than his career in Congress.

I'm an Idaho native. Sen. Craig has been in the Senate a very long time ( this is his 5th term), and was in the House before his Senate tenure.
His homosexuality has been long known by Idaho's gay community; a gay acquaintance of mine first told me about Larry's activities over 10 years ago. He first was caught in college, and it's been going on ever since.

He has been close to being outed several times before; when he was serving as a Representative, he was caught red-handed (or some other organ) in a similar instance. At that time he was single, and gay rumors had already been spreading here. Word is the State Repubs called him in for a meeting and gave him the ultimatum that he needed to either get married or give up his plans for running for the Senate. Craig married a woman with grown children, all males, shortly afterward, well in advance of his first run for the Senate.

Craig has been dancing around all summer as to whether or not he will run for a 6th term. I'm sure his outing by the gay community this spring may be part of his clumsy waltz, but those charges weren't backed up with any definitive proof.

Although he's still popular with Idaho's Repubs, this one is going to run a torpedo through his boat and he'll go under, leaving a big ol' oil slick when he goes. It takes a lot for the Repubs to kick an incumbent to the curb- they supported George Hansen when he was awaiting trial for tax evasion- but Idaho is full of Mormons; they vote Republican and they hate gays as a matter of religious principle. The non-Mormon Repubs in N. Idaho also hate 'em, the cowboys and spud farmers hate 'em, and Craig won't be able to smooth this one over with his usual denials. He always uses the word 'ridiculous' in them, and he used it again today.

Adios, Larry. Don't plan on coming back to Idaho anytime soon.

Let me see. How many ways can one spell H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y? Oh, yeah: R-E-P-U-B-L-I-C-A-N. Hypocrisy, as in we'll invade a country for their oil, then claim that we've done this for the good of its people, kill about half a million of them, continue to talk democracy while taking away our privacy rights . . . let me see: H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y. A plague on all their houses.

Let's remember that this putz is a Senator from Idaho. Those Spud-Heads would still vote for this pervert even if he was caught with a 7 year olds pecker in his mouth!

Idahoans have known Larry Craig was gay for over 25 years. Just like the GOP knew of Mark Foley. They didn't care until their behavior became scandalous. They know that David Drier and Lindsey Graham are flaming queens and don't care. It is only when they engage in behavior that is hypocritically embarrassing that it becomes a problem.

Interesting question...somebody had an agenda in releasing this now. I can think of a couple of suspects.

1. Giuliani is looking to damage Romney with a sex scandal ( Craig was Romney's Presidential Campaign Manager in the Senate. The goal would be to start a rumor campaign about Romney as a closeted gay Mormon or something.)

2. Gonsales resigned today and perhaps hoped a Craig sex scandal would knock Gonsales resignation off the banner headlines.

3. The GOP is increasingly frustrated with Craig's waffling on core GOP issues and was looking for a way to get Craig to retire ( the idaho senate seat is a safe GOP seat)

I have the same questions, as the arrest was in JUNE. Some reporters aren't doing their jobs.

However, I'm not sure if this was released now to try and take some of the heat off Gonzales, or if Gonzales' resignation was timed to take some of the heat off Craig.

Who said August is a slow news month?

You'd think that a U.S. Senator would be smart enough to find a discreet escort service or other private way of satisfying his needs. As far as we know, Haggard, Gannon, and Foley never stooped to cruising public restrooms.

Yeah, you'd think. But first he has to stop lying to himself. When I was 20, I would not get off the subway at the Christopher St stop for fear that some random stranger might think I was gay. Silly when you think about it. Boy, it must really suck to still be like that at 62. Pun not intended.

Why was Senator Craig repeatedly thrusting his hand under his neighbor stall? Searching for a moist towelette?...Be a good neighbor and wipe the ass of the citizen in the next stall?
