Newsbriefs, 8/28: Domestic Disturbances

  • Craig Lashes Out at Idaho Paper: Larry Craig, Senator and apparent devotee of airport washroom cruising, is blaming his woes on a "witchhunt" conducted by the Idaho Statesman. But the larger question is "How Did News Outlets Miss Senator's Arrest for Nearly Three Months?"
  • Well, then...your move, Idaho voters! CNN's Jack Cafferty makes a bold pronouncement: "If this moron, Larry Craig, is re-elected to the Senate, if he's stupid enough to run again, if he's re-elected, I will eat the Time Warner Center one brick at a time." And he could do it, too!
  • Stewart/Lawson Feud Escalates: Uhm...did you even know that there was a "feud" between Martha Stewart and Brit "domestic goddess" Nigella Lawson? Well, get caught up!
  • August Victories at CNN: Paced by the uptick in viewers looking for news from the scene of the Minnesota bridge collapse (and, yes, we feel skeevy every time touted ratings successes are derived from tragedies) and the "God's Warriors" documentary series, CNN has its best month of prime-time viewing since September 2005.
  • WaPo Radio A No-Go: After seventeen months of Washington Post Radio, the Post and partner Bonneville International Corp. will shut down the operation. During its first year, WTWP was "not able to draw even 1 percent of listeners."
  • Wow! Is The Politico's Writing Always this Searingly Courageous? Dan W. Reilly, writing for "The Crypt" says of Ted Nugent's crazy onstage ranting, "he didn't win any political points." Oh, no? Well, gee, thanks for helping to quantify the amount of "political points" lost by an over-the-hill rock star! Care to speculate as to whether or not Nugent has risked not getting a visit from Santa Claus this year? Or are there some questions too terrifying to face?
