Pro-Surge Dem "Verbally Flogged By Hundreds Of His Constituents"

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:44 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:10 PM ET

The Oregonian:

For more than three hours Monday night, Rep. Brian Baird was verbally flogged by hundreds of his constituents for no longer supporting the quick withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

More than 500 people packed a high school auditorium in Vancouver while another 175 or so were unable to get inside. And virtually everyone who got a chance to address the Vancouver Democrat were harshly critical - including several who said they had been long-time supporters and friends.

"You have just broken my heart," said Phil Massey, a Vancouver ship's pilot who wasn't swayed by Baird's explanation that the U.S. was finally starting to make some progress in bringing peace to Iraq. "You have screwed up, my friend. You have screwed up and you have to change course."

"It could well cost me the election"

DID YOU READ THAT??
Do you really think Baird is THAT gung ho about this war? Folks, we have lost any power we had over our reps because they no longer CARE if they lose their seats in Congress.

They are either being threatened or are complicit. The New World Order is MORE important than their JOBS.

Rep. Baird spoke his mind and should be commended for that. The citizens in that district spoke their minds, and that is their right. What makes the story so interesting is in the details, obviously. There are a lot of his constituents who think he is very wrong.

If Rep. Baird believes something so radically different from what the majority believes, then it would be proper for him to try to explain himself. Perhaps the Huffington Post would offer him a forum to explain himself and to accept questions? If there is something beyond "I changed my mind," I for one would like to hear it, and why he changed his mind.

Good he's feeling the heat. Defeat the S.O.B. in the primary next year.

I am tired of hearing that lie about Irag descending into chaos, if we leave, one way or the other.

1. Aren't these the same Iragis we dropped bombs on, blowing them to pieces, man, women, children and babies.

2.Aren't these the same Iragis, where fathers were made to have sex with their sons, daughter and mothers raped in front of the fathers and sons. Stacked naked and humiliated, put dogs on them.

3. Are these the same Iragis that had white phorferous dropped on them. BURNING THOUSANDS OF THEM ALIVE. Mass murder.

4.Aren't these the same Iragis, whose country was invaded, based on lies that has CAUSED THE DEATHS OF NEARLY A MILLION OF THEM. HAD SANCTION THAT CAUSED THE DEATHS OF MAYBE ANOTHER MILLION.

These bastard in this administration and some weak democrats, don't give a dam about what may happen to Iragis. Save that bullshit for your suckers.

They took a poll, they want us to leave. How arrogant these bush suckers are, to think after all we have done to them, they want us to stay. Maliki said he didn't care if the u.s left.

We got to get the oil deal, we got to get the oil deal. Says bush, cheney and the rest of these lying war profiteers. Traitors all of them.

Probably the smartest financial move anyone in his family every made.

Perhaps this man lives in a different reality. He certainly does not live in mine.

3,732 American Deaths
27,506 American Wounded

Or maybe he should stop reading the reich-wing talking points.

Clashes between rival Shiite Muslim militias in the holy city of Karbala today killed at least 50 people, torched three hotels and prompted Iraqi authorities to order the evacuation of more than 1 million pilgrims from the shrine where they had gathered.

More than 150 people were injured in the helter-skelter panic that followed random gunfire by militants in the Mahdi Army loyal to anti-American cleric Muqtada Sadr and those of the Badr Organization, the armed wing of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq.

The two Shiite militias have been waging an increasingly deadly battle for control of southern Iraq's most important cities and its abundant oil resources.

It´s obvious what has happened. The military, economic (industrial), political (congress on the take) complex got to him. They gave him an offer he could not refuse. Every man has his price.

The man is willing to lose the next election to support bush. How many people feel he cares about the Iraqis? That means between now and then he´ll have received enough money under the table to make it worth losing his job. This guy must have been offered quite a bit. It´s a great country!

Every man has his price......................and if not there's always blackmail.

One can only wonder how much the corporate fascists paid to buy this sell-out... But then again, the same can be said about the vast majority of the Democratic Party.

Totally true. The democrats or better yet, the Clintonites of the democratic party, pretend to hate Bush, but celebrate every imitation Hillary does of Bush.

Hillary supported Bush's war, surge, she buys into the hype about terrorism. Same lies the republicans tell, so does Hillary.

Well, I'm a Washington State boy, grew up in Baird's district, and he's represented us well UP UNTIL NOW!

Take some advise Mr. Baird. Change your stance, or change your affiliation, otherwise we'll change your vocation.

Will the war be worse when we leave.

Now that we have armed and trained militias on both sides, it will be worse than it would have been 5 years ago.

We have established factions, we have established torture centers, we have shown the Iraqis that this is okay.

We have helped develop a society divided by religion?

When we leave there will be many loyalists to America. In Vietnam, these people were killed, the Vichy French were also punished. Yes, there will be payback, and the longer we stay the more expensive the payback.

Vote him out of office! The jerk fell for the scam pulled on him by the military where he was taken to a few places that might have looked good and only for a short while, but this bullshit about staying in Iraq because if we leave things will get worse is nonsense. Sure things will get worse but we can't stay in Iraq forever and what happens after we leave is up to the Iraqies, not us. We've done enough damage. Fools like Baird need to be voted out of office. His judgement is seriously in flawed.
