for 30,000 years stuff has been evolving for us to eat it. in the last ten thousand we have been artificially selecting the stuff. In the last hundred years we started selecting for farmer profit and not people survival.

Kirk Cameron proves this by the way we redesigned the banana in the last 10,000 years. Of course he thought he was proving someone else did the redesign.

Death is mother nature's way of telling you your diet is wrong. Everybody out of the gene pool.

Eat what you want and let Charles Darwin sort things out. Ethanol is a much better preservative that any of the BHA/BHT crap they use and my family has been using it for a lot of generations. I am Irish. Love the vitamin cocktail, but since I am in Florida I used grapefruit juice. Nice mix with Vodka and Vitamins.

Most of the items you listed each had more than 30 g. of carbs. The only one under 20 was Bear Naked All Natural Granola. Blah!!!I think we consumers who care about our weight can do better.

what a crock -- everything on the list, except frozen vegetables and plain rice, is packed with sugar -- AND everything is packaged. Not food.

The very title of this piece in my opinion shows how stupid we are about food. Food isn't healthy or unhealthy. The person eating food is in a relative state of health or dis-ease. Eating natural food, in general (while there are a million specific dietary ideas that may or may not be helpful), is a good way to maintain or even restore one's optimum state of health.

That list is pathetic. I saw no organic items and the meat, if you eat meat, is factory farm, cruel kill. It's just more advertising.

Yes, and almost everything on the list was from an agribusiness brand. There are good packaged foods out there. Whole Foods 365 brand has a lot of good stuff and much of it is a lot cheaper than all these heavily advertised brands.

I use "emergenC lite" in a drink I invented:

the "vodka emergenC" or if you prefer the "rum emergenC". Add a little cranberry juice and blue Sky lemon lime soda (its not to sweet) and you've got a nutritious, tasty drink. Vitamins and painkiller in one, no joke. add what you like, just remember the alcohol and the "emergenC".

Since I don't have a 640 X 480 monitor, everything was too damn small to read. Women's Health is in serious need of a good web site designer.

I agree--there sure is a lot of junk food in this list. Not much listed that I would want in my system. Lots of fancy empty calories

"Healthy packaged food."

Best oxymoron of 2007.

"Healthy sponsor branded packaged food" -that's all you'll get from a women's consumer health (emphasis on consumer) magazine. They are brilliant with lists - best 10 ways to keep your skin wrinkle free; best kept celebrity diet secrets; top 8 supplements you shouldn't live without... The only thing all these all guarantee is that the publisher will have the dough rolling in for citing corporate brands.

Absolutely correct. What passes as "food" in this country is pathetic. No wonder Americans are fat and unhealthy. If it comes in a box or bag (processed), it is NOT food.

I often wonder where they find these "nutritionists" to write articles like this (General Mills, Kraft?). Healthy does NOT include artificial sweeteners, preservatives and dyes.

Go back to the source...organic plants and veggies.

...and occasionally, meat. Remember, we apes are equipped for that sort of thing.
