A growing clamor among rank-and-file Democrats to halt President Bush's most controversial tactics in the fight against terrorism has exposed deep divisions within the party, with many Democrats angry that they cannot defeat even a weakened president on issues that they believe should be front and center.

The Democrats' failure to rein in wiretapping without warrants, close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay or restore basic legal rights such as habeas corpus for terrorism suspects has opened the party's leaders to fierce criticism from some of their staunchest allies -- on Capitol Hill, among liberal bloggers and at interest groups.

Who in hell are the neo-nazis that call themselves
freedom watch. They just ran a propaganda ad on TV linking the 9/11 attack with the war in Iraq.

This republibabe come on and says Al Qaeda killed two members of my family. A NYPD fireman on 9/11 her uncle and her brother a soldier Iraq. The chances of being killed by Al Qaeda in Iraq is the same as the chances of US soldiers being killed by NVA regulars in Vietnam. That is zero.

The president of my high school class was in Vietnam The only North Vietnamese he ever saw were ARVN officers and catholic elite.

The point is all the VC were southern Vietnamese despite the lie told by both parties that it was a civil war. Al Qaeda units are less than 8 percent of resistance in Iraq and that is an inflated Bush number. More likely less than a token presence of Al Qaeda less than 1 percent.

Time is running out for this Congress to do anything to hold this administration Accountable to the Constitution. We the People can hold this Congress accountable by planning to vote out all Incumbents in 2008. This will establish that We the people are in charge.

It is important to hold this Congress accountable Now and Citizen Recalls Campaigns could get some new blood in the Congress before elections. The question is are We the people sufficiently organized and motivated to do this WORK. If not, We might just as well stop the whining and wait for 2008.

Work or Wait, that's the question?

"Republicans appear to have won the argument with their accusation that Democrats want to import terrorists."
Maybe the Democrats should start listening to the ones who voted them in instead of listening to what the repubs say, we might get something done. The excuse that they "don't want to appear to be soft on terror" is a bunch of b.s. To whom are they going to appear to be "soft on terror"? Not the seventy per cent of Americans who want us out of Iraq and want our civil liberties back. I wish they would get their heads of the Beltway media's ass and start representing the people they were elected to represent.

There is no "seventy per cent of Americans who want us out of Iraq and want our civil liberties back": about 70% are unhappy about the war, but over 50% still see "victory" as a possibility, and many of them will be looking for scapegoats if they don't get it.

Similarly, a majority of Americans are perfectly happy to sacrifice civil liberties, as long as they think that it's only "the other guy" who'll actually suffer from it. If the RNC manages to spin the next terror attack as a product of the failure to create a police state, a large number of those folks will take out their anger on Democratic incumbents.

Once I believed as many of you did, that the democratic party was an actual political party.
Even more foolish, was my belief that they actually wanted to oppose the policies of those who they fundamentally disagreed with (obviously in rhetoric only).
The reality of this party turns out to be far more sinister.
The Democratic party functions as the stall mechanism of American elites. Their role is to stall action on the issues they are elected on, thereby buying time for corporate power/elites to devise remedies against the initiatives of popular movements. (Republicans role is to push the agenda.)
Republicans at least are who we thought they were. Vindictive, greedy, racist, desperate to be enlisted by whatever power system can enrich them and capable of any manner of wickedness against foreigner or their fellow citizen.
Oh yeah....as long as it enriches
them personally.

Wake up people!!! stop playing this game...your losing.....your losing bad....yet you keep empowering those who will do everything on earth, except that which they have sworn on their honor to do for you.
Find me an individual in your personal life that is as unreliable as the democratic party, who delivers less results than the democratic party, and I will show you someone who is unemployed.
George Bush could not have dreamed in a perfect world, to have a congress who has enabled him more than the two past democratic congress' have. Their inaction for 7 years has in my opinion been more responsible than Bush for the
countless defeats mankind has experienced under this regime.

Instead of talking the talk, walk the walk. Of course when you rats got the power in the November elections you did nothing to stop the mass murder disguised as war, the snooping without a warrant, and the torture/imprisonment of not only foreigners, but Americans as well. There is only ONE party in this country and it's the Republicratic Party! Republicans and Democrats are one in the same. It's an illusion that started from the get go and continues to this day. The war on terror is a fraud. In fact, ALL wars are frauds, as are most politicians in this country and around the world.

"representatives, Hasting, Moran, M.Watt, Tieney and Nadler, PLEADED WITH THE LEADERSHIP NOT TO BRING THIS TO THE FLOOR FOR VOTE"

Who is the leadership? Nancy Pelosi and the majority leader. IMPEACHMENT OFF THE TABLE PELOSI.

I live in a Blue District with a Congressman who pays lip service to the opposition on the war but turns around and votes with Pelosi, Reid and Lady Di (Feinstein). I've had it with him, and in fact, if voting Democrat means we get someone who is sympathetic with me ("hears my pain) but votes with the corporatists, I might as well vote for a corporatist. I am sick of these Blue Dog or Blue Puppy Democrats. They are more of a disgrace than the pure Republicans. We need a National leader the caliber of Eugene McCarthy. This war needs to end. And soon! Not only is it bankrupting us, it continues to undermine our military which will weaken us in the long run. And the pentagon knows it. Hell there seems to be more dissention within the Pentagon than there is in Congress!

Disappointed? You bet!

The simple fact is folks don't know the laws of their land or how to do math.

If these clowns eroding the faith in our government with each and every Comment were anything but Bushbots or Rushbots or useless scum they would be hammering on their elected officials for immediate change.

How many of them do anything at all except down some pills or get half-plastered and drop their senseless anti-American turds on the blogs?

If blame is to be laid, then it's upon the whining impatient American people. The Surrender Monkeys are you!

NOW GET FUCKING BUSY!

Doom and gloom are what the GOP expects from US.

A rebirth of populism is what the GOP fears from US.

Reid and Pelosi like their salaries and forthcoming pensions, why would they make waves. There is enough money in the defense budget to bring the troops home. The Democrats must deny the Dolt in the White House any more money for his phony war killing tens of thousands and leading this nation to bankruptcy. The majority of Americans,70%, want this war to end and concentrate on problems here at home. Vote NO to more funding and let the chips fall where they may. It will stop the killing and destruction in Iraq, let the Iraqis determine their own fate, and stop the theft of our treasury. No one is going to follow us here, there is an ocean between us and we can defend our borders with competent leadership. I support our troops by bringing them home where they belong.

Why, oh why, do the Democrats keep letting the failed Republican Party shape their decisions and label the Democrats as weak? When the Republicans give the Democrats in Congress two options -- either you can restore civil rights and be weak on terrorism or give Bush what he wants and be patriotic -- why don't the Democrats call them on this bullshit?

Why isn't there one Democratic leader in Congress who has the balls to stand up and say that the Republicans have led us down the road to trashing the Constitution, bombing a country that did not attack us, and creating new environments for terrorists to thrive, all of which have hurt our national security?

Are Pelosi and Reid so stupid that they don't realize that so long as they take the options the Republicans give them, it doesn't matter which option they choose because Pelosi and Reid will always allow the Republicans to paint the Democratic party as being spineless, because that is exactly what Pelosi and Reid are?

The irony is that all the actions of the republican administration actually threaten the gun rights of their constituents much more than anything the democrats would or have tried to do.
Refusing to see that republican constituents are their own worst enemy. The democrats who are so limp wristed about justice and preservation of the Bill of Rights and US constitution are only aiding and abetting the destruction of 'our freedom' which is being done in the 'name' of preserving freedom. Ironic isn't it...all with purpose...to destroy the voice of ALL the people? Once a republican changes their opinion about the administration, they become an 'enemy combatant'...good luck fools, see ya at the detention facilities.

Democrats were elected to the majority and charged, like their Republican counterparts, with upholding the Constitution. That means some very simple things. Habeas Corpus, No Torture (close Gitmo), No warrentless wiretaps,
No Recess Appointments, Strigent Oversight of our Countries Finances(especially wartime allocations, and Impeachment(Bush, Cheney & Gonzalez, though he is out of town on a rail) when crimes have been committed. These are not choices thay have OPTIONS to make, they are their SWORN DUTY from the day they took office. I am a lifelong Democrat, but if these clowns don't get it together and actually do their jobs (please refer to the oath you took when you assumed your office)they all need to be tossed out.
I am embaressed that our leadership would bring that joke of a Bill on wiretapping to the floor. What the hell are they thinking????
We obviously need new leadership. The only one
remotely qualified with enough spine is Senator Leahy. I may be an Independant next election, NEVER THOUGHT THAT WAS POSSIBLE.

Does someone have to hit you people over the head?

They sold out. They don't represent you.

In fact they work actively colluding with private business like ATT & Verizon & Microsoft, to steal as much money as they can as quickly as possible as long as the terrorism hysteria lasts.

Let's not make all of this more complicated than what it is.

The Big Bonus is they can hide all of it away from your view because it's "National Security".

I'm embarassed when I keep reading all of this sappy, sentimental "They have a sworn duty" pap.

These people are brokering billion dollar deals daily behind your back. $16,0000 per minute satellite surveillance, Multi-billion dollar super secret data mining operations (warrentless of course). Mega-banks of eavesdropping equipment.

And then you wonder why they don't suddenly put the kibosh on the whole feeding frenzy?......"Oh wait a minute everybody! What about Joe Blow's civil rights?....brief pause, then......(Sound of laughter rings out).

I guess each generation has to find out for themselves. Your government hates you and views you as a revenue stream. Period.
