Has anybody ordered a copy of the court reporter's transcript when Sen. Craig pled guilty in open court? It's a public record.
I'm a court reporter. I spent 17 years working in criminal courts. I have reported literally thousands of misdemeanor guilty pleas. A defendant appears in court, takes an oath, swears to tell the truth and tells the judge a set of facts. If the facts he tells the judge constitute a crime, the judge is free to accept the guilty plea. If they don't constitute a crime, he is not free to accept the guilty plea. Sen. Craig went through this process. Every criminal defendant who pleads guilty does.
A court reporter writes down every word and files his or her notes. His notes are a public record. Has any member of the news media attempted to get that transcript? If not, why not? Just curious.
Three phrases they evidently teach you at Republican school:
1. I'll lower your taxes.
2. I don't recall.
3. It's Bill/Hillary Clinton's fault.
:)
I must admit it sounds a storm in a teacup.
Why the hell did he plead guilty?
He must have known it would become public knowledge at some point.
Or did he just not recall?
"Why the hell did he plead guilty?"
An alien entity must have snatched his body... ;)
June 11.
Pleads guilty.
Why plead guilty if you are innocent and you are a powerful US law-maker?
What kind of law is he writing when he is not even clear on his own rights of due process?
Yikes! That's actually more of a story than the toe-tapping. He has his "hand" on BILLIONS of OUR MONEY.
I'd be more upset that the guy is a competant law-maker.
That's the strange part, you would normally expect a senator to tell the police officer to go Cheney himself.
He sounded like a lost child rather than someone high up in government.
Weird.
LaFeminazi: "I must admit it sounds a storm in a teacup."
I was thinking a tempest in a tearoom.
LaFeminazi said, "I must admit it sounds a storm in a teacup."
I was thinking more like "tsunami in a bathhouse.
The GOP:
"I don't recall swearing an oath to defend the constitution"
I hate republicans as much or more than anyone, and if this had been a democrat the republicans would have been all over it, as they are the leaders in sexual persecution. But from the tape it isn't obvious that Craig is 'guilty'. The policeman's nature is to persecute, a lot of police see guilt when it isn't there, and they create it to fulfill their self righteous need
to persecute others.
Even though it is their own fault by creating a police state and all manner of sex-crime laws in the first place, we fair minded people should defend the republican Craig against what is obviously a witch hunt. Smear him for being two-faced, but forgive him for what was obviously not a crime at all. Doing that will show that we stand by our own principles, that we don't pick and choose them per convenience like they do.
A sitting US Senator is intimidated enough by a plain clothes cop in an airport to plead guilty?
B.S. He tried to intimidate the cop by saying "..what do you think of that?..."
Live by the gutter, die by the gutter.
excellent post, not that anyone on your side will listen. But its encouraging to hear that at least one democrat actually has some character. Just read these boards that should tell you everything you need to know about your sides principles. Its sad really, you guys are supposed to be the ones to save us all from the evil republicans, yet for some reason you guys seem to go out of your way to make sure everyone knows your actually worse.(wor
You support George W Bush and have the crust to claim you are a good judge of character?
You couldn't be more wrong.
"you guys are supposed to be the ones to save us all from the evil republicans"
What in the hell are you rambling on about?
I mean other than the usual sanctimonious troll scat.
Consider the principles of this...
Craig gets caught soliciting sex in a bathroom and virtually every Republican has distanced themselves and called for his resignation.
Vitner (sp?) of Louisiana admits to solicting a prostitute (also a crime) and no Republicans call for his resignation.
Could this have anything to do with the fact that if Craig resigns a Republican governor will choose his replacement but if Vitner resigns a Democratic governor will?
Please explain the principles of this situation.
Thank you for the response. I agree that some of of the comments here are not becoming, but I hope that attitude isn't mainstream.
We could make a proud example by supporting Craig, passing a resolution that he not resign - as long as he will switch parties and embrace a more liberal agenda. That would shame the republicans and at the same time display our tolerance, compassion, and sense of fair play.
We could say it was WJWD.
My roving correspondent BlueBottleFly just happened to hear an explanation by Craig that didn't make it into the police report.
When queried about tapping his shoe in the bathroom stall, Craig replied earnestly, "But, officer, I have restless foot syndrome."
Magothy...

Ok... this story is just the tip of the homosexual culture in the GOP .. yes there are gays just like there are all kinds of people in the world but it just seems so redundantly hypocritical from these GOP bastards who bash one group in our society and themselves are amoung that group. Oh how I relish in the GOP's Downfall to Extinction in my great country of the United States Of America !!!!!
Where's the troll mantra about "if you have nothing to hide, yada yada yada?
Why would a person with a functioning brain go back AFTER TWO WEEKS, plead guilty and pay a fine?
Why did Craig fly back to Minnesota several weeks after his arrest to plead guilty? Maybe he wanted to visit that airport restroom again.
"Straight men may think of other male bodies or even sexual contact with other males while masturbating, but most are not willing or able to perform sexually with another man in real life."

Don't just talk about man-on-man sex. Do it! Relieve the burden on women and children.
Wow! MSM is playing selected portions of these tapes and putting a positive spin on them.
Amazing.
Why did this arrest not make it into MSM before now?
I read this somewhere about this Senator from Idaho -- don't know who to credit -- but...
This give a whole new meaning to the name Mr. Potatohead.
It's a good thing those marines charged with murdering and torturing an innocent family in Haditha didn't solicit males for sex. They'd really be in trouble now.
(And no one thought of the Seinfeld episode about "sparing a square"? Why couldn't Craig's hand movement be an attempt to see if there were toilet paper in the next stall? There is no way in the world that this case would have been proven if Craig had retained an attorney. There were NO WORDS spoken, for chrissakes. Regardless if it disgusts you, this is about consenting adults and borders on a thought crime.)
Solicitation is a crime.
What Craig did is widely known as coded behavior which represents solicitation.
He pleaded guilty.
He is toast.
I gotta go, but I really want to know.
How is it "widely known"? Is there some kind of on-line tutorial that people go to learn these things?
I mean seriously, who says "Ok, we're going out trolling for sex partners in bathrooms tonight, so here's the code....ta
Who thinks of shit like this?
I notice that Larry Craig used two interesting words in the police interview: "soliciting" and "entrapment". While Senator Craig seemed to deny any activity of which he was accused by the police officer, he also accused the police officer of soliciting him. How can he discuss solicitation when the police officer did nothing and Larry Craig himself says he did nothing? And how can Larry Craig accuse the police officer of entrapment while claiming that he did nothing? Entrapment is a defense to the commission of a crime, not a claim of having performed no criminal activity. Craig says he was solicated into performing criminal activity and entrapped into that activity, but at the same time he says he performed no criminal activity whatsoever. Something doesn't make sense. I also noted the GOP "I don't recall" mantra used by Craig several times during the interview.
