From an editorial in the Idaho Statesman titled "Sen. Larry Craig needs to resign":

For the good of a state he loves, a state he has served for more than a quarter century.

It is difficult and unpleasant to call on Idaho's senior senator to end a career in public service. We don't do this casually, or unanimously.

However, we cannot abide an elected official who didn't disclose a lewd conduct arrest until the story broke 77 days later -- a lie by omission and a violation of the public trust. We cannot believe Craig can effectively serve Idaho, under the shadow of his guilty plea on a lesser charge of disorderly conduct. We cannot afford, as a state with but four congressional representatives, to have a senator who merely provides fodder for bloggers and late-night talk show hosts.

If I was Senator Craig I would find a beautiful middle-aged woman and take her with me on business trips and have sex in a hotel or VIP lounge after dinner and/or a drink while waiting for my next flight. But that's just me.

What are these Senators and Congressmen thinking about?

I listened to poor Larry on his police tape trying to explain the the cop, how the cop has it all wrong. My son-n-law is a cop and he told me, he sounds just like the others, they get caught and first if they think there important, it's "do you know who I am", and then it's well I don't want to go to court or jail! Then it's you were confused officer, I wasn't putting my hand under the stall to signal sex, it was to pick up that gross piece of toilet paper on the floor, what was he planning on wiping with it, I mean who picks up a piece of toilet paper off the floor in a public restroom??? Then Larry splains that "well our feet touched"! who does this guy think he's kidding, just his condescending manner tells you he's lying. he also said he visits that very restroom about once a week, my God Larry, maybe that's why they had to set up that sting operation, business was getting too brisk! So, Larry how about the other incidents, were you framed then too? Oh, not framed, you said "entrapped".
I would say that Larry will be doing the toilet two step in any bathroom of his choice soon, however, he won't have his "Senator's card" to impress the police with.

Of course they want him to resign - he's a lousy liar.

To make it in today's republicon party, you have to be a world class liar like darth cheney.

You have to be quick on your feet and have a credible lie come out of your mouth at a moment's notice.

You can't spout out things like "wide stance" and expect the other lying republicon senators to respect you.

Come on.

Can you, and the rest of the mainstream media, call on Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the cabal to resign as well? I know that's a tough to thing do, since they're so far up the ass of this criminal administration. But they've always been there, covering up the crimes of nearly every administration throughout this nation's history. But as the saying goes, "There's always a first time for everything." Now, more than ever, it is that time.

Like so many of the traitorously conservative segment of our society, the ones devoutly dedicated to eliminating that red tape known as the Constitution, Thompson is a sycophant. That word gets bandied about quite a bit on these blogs, but its definition certainly fits that SOB. Thompson = sycophant. Electing Thompson President of the United States would be the straw that broke the camel's back. There is only a limited time that one can pull back from the fire. After that, it gets ugly.

But honestly, the dumbed-down voting population in "middle America" can't see the forest for the trees, and I have NO DOUBT that Thompson will emerge as the "republican to beat". Giulliani can"t survive his own avarice.

This country is beginning to SUCK from the middle outward!!

Here's a solution to the (potential) Thompson threat " AL GORE runs for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gore hasn't answered the Lieberman question nor has he bothered to open that box, and that is a bitter pill but¦

Mr. Gore, you have my vote this time, and I pledge it as well as my energy to promote you. BTW, select Hillary as your running mate, Mr. Gore, and create an unbeatable combination. Now, is that ironic or what?! The irony alone is worth 500,000 votes.

Or as they say in France: baiser le GOP

HYPOCRISY ON TOP OF HYPOCRISY! Now that all the personal scandal is about Republicans, several of them are saying personal matters should not enter the political dialogue. Don't you love it!

Really now, what is it about gay men and anonymous sex in bathrooms? There's something really depraved about it. In all my years of using the ladies room, I've never noticed any tapping, but women are definitely the more superior sex and would not stoop to such degradation.

HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT!

Allow me to confirm your statement. Women do NOT engage in anonymous sex in bathrooms! This unquestionably a MALE phenomenon. One of the male commenters on another thread insisted that females are the same as males. What an insult!

Has anyone seen Orrin "sick and tired - Gonzo has not admitted he lied, ipso facto, he didn't" Hatch?
Back in the day, every 10th word out of Orrin's mouth was 'Clinton'. Between Craig and Hatch, they have run things in Idaho for a generation.
But a serious question was posed by a previous poster - how have these two, repeat these two, not ever been questioned about Idaho's reputation of being 1) the home of the nuttiest religion outside of scientology, 2) the American Nazi Party and 3) ummmm.... lots of wild animals? (I kind of enlarged on the original poster's theme, but, hey, this is America, right?) I am thinking politics might be a good career move for me. Not.

Well, to be fair to Orrin Hatch, he represents the progressive people of Utah, not Idaho, though they do touch borders for several hundred miles.

One only has to spend a month watching C-Span to get a good picture of Hatch's agenda. Or better yet, look up his past. Therein lies the boogey-man, and for people who love this country, a very troubling "legalist" position.

I can do this all day...

Lawyers, by their very training, are debaters. Forget the superfluous notion that morality or ethics effect the outcome. They don't give a shit about abstractions such as right and wrong. No, it's all about winning the argument by persuasion.

Mr. Craig has revised his statement.

"I am not gay. I am, however, a pervert that likes to beat my meat in public toliets and have sex with other perverts in bathroom stalls. Again, I am not gay - but I am a re-pub-lick-a-man."

Very clever. Thanks.

It must be frustrating to "uncloseted" gays in American to witness an explosion of "conservative" homosexuals. Jesus Christ! If ever there were an oxymoron..!

One can only hope that when these "uncloseted" gays DO come out, they will be inclined to take a more "social" view of the world. Nothing worse than a tight ass in drag!

"...to have a senator who merely provides fodder for bloggers and late-night talk show hosts..."

See now the true intent of the media in Boise. These people don't give a rat's ass about the corruption of the conservative movement in America. They only care about appearance sake and conserving the status quo. They want another Larry-Craig type without the embarrassments. Has anybody bothered to look at Larry Craig"s voting records? This guy is so un-American one might be inclined to think he"s Canadian.

Anybody who"s been to Idaho will tell you that it is among the most beautiful states in the lower 48. Goddamn awesome! (That coming from someone who thinks the citizens of Idaho are genetically deficient, but Idaho, the natural Idaho, is easy on the eyes.)

But - the narrowly focused bigots of Idaho's right wing turn a blind eye to the corporatization of their only benefit; their pristine beauty. Every single one of the right-wing elected are selling off the state parcel by parcel. But Halleluia for the "family values" party.

The only ones clamoring or making noise about the exploitation of the Idaho's natural attractions, the ones who really give a shit about "next year" are the left-leaning middle, a political position Idahoans have abandoned for the slow demise of the country they so vehemently CLAIM to love. Bullshit!

Whoa!!! I got off on a tangent there didn"t I?

That's surprising, a liberal paper wants a Republican to resign. Where were the 3 months ago when this event actually happened?

A "liberal paper" in IdaHO? HA, that's a good one. Doesn't the IdaHO flag have a swastika on it? The Boise paper probably never asked for his resignation because they didn't know the IdaHO Senator was really a bathroom troll.

Ha, it's always the republiCON party over anything else. That's why republiCONs commit treason, it's always party over country. Besides, your wandering hooker lover, Senator Vitter, should also resign but Lousiana has a Democrat governor and we couldn't have her replacing him. The IdaHO governor can always appoint Bill Sali the current Congressman from IdaHO, and we'd have another gay Senator.

The Republican governor of Idaho is named----get this----Butch Otter! I hope this drags on for a while because (a) it's just so damn funny, and (b) it's tremendously damaging to the Republican party as a whole (not to mention a hole). I say hang on by your fingernails as long as possible, Senator Restroom Romeo!

As a lifelong Idaho resident and a liberal (there're a few of us), I'm actually a bit of a Butch Otter fan. Not just because he once won a tight-fitting jeans contest at a bar in Boise (nice ass), but because he's one of three Republicans to vote against the Patriot Act, sponsored an amendment to de-fund FBI sneak-and-peeks, is highly critical of the administration's domestic spying, thinks it's not the government's business what people do in their bedrooms or if they feel like smoking marijuana, is now against the sell-off of public lands, and wants state employees to work from home to reduce traffic and pollution where I live.

Don't get me wrong...I would never vote for him, but he is something of a character, and not all bad as Republicans go.

Why should Craig resign, just because he got caught?

What about all the rest of the Republicans in the Senate and the House who have not yet admitted to being perverts?
