When it's time for interviews, I'm delighted to find that John, who has patiently waited for Kelly, is more than happy to chat with me. Although he's seeing the film for the first time that evening, he's excited to talk about working with Kelly and their daughter Ella in Old Dogs. "Ella's doing a terrific job, as is Kelly," he tells me. "We're having a good time on the set; we love it. It's been a dream since we've all been together." So...does he have any reservations about making his daughter a child star? Nah. "I would've done anything to start that early," he says to me.

Kelly steps up for a joint interview and the couple begins preaching a bit about how their controversial religion actually helps their marriage. "We're both Scientologists and we have similar beliefs in how to raise our kids," Kelly says. "It keeps us constantly growing spiritually, happy and grounded. We know how to survive in life a whole lot better. It helps you on a daily basis. We apply religious philosophy everywhere that it's applicable." John pipes up. "We use the techniques all the time at work, home, with the kids," he says. "It's all tools for better survival - tools you need for every day life."

$cientology IS in politics. They are just more quiet about it. Their main purpose is to gt the government to allow them access everywhere.

They are not as interested in changing policy to change the world, as much as they are in getting as much money as possible.

John "I am not gay" Travolta leaned on Clinton to try and get Germany and other places to change their laws regarding $cientology. Germany told Clinton to eat shit and die because they consider $cientology to be exactly what it is, a scam to steal as much money as possible from stupid and low self esteem young people. AND far too many older people.

Unfortunately as well, morons like John and other stars are treated so differently from the rank and file and never see the damage their support for this $cam does. The young lives destroyed and the families torn apart, not to mention the financial ruin so many go through.

At least Scientology isn't in poltics like the mainstreem ones.

scientology is what keeps them from getting their autistic son the help he needs.

At least they aren't trying to cram it down the public's throats like Tom Cat Cruise! If they think it helps them, then by all means use it.

Scientology: Part self-help psycho babble, part new agey religious b.s. and also a complete scam.

[I just imagine $cientology's secrecy is a scam to sucker more in to pay for the info. And then it's at best garden variety self help silliness. I'm certainly not going to pay to find out.]

Hey, one of those toms of wisdom that introduce you to their "understanding" of enlightenment will cost you about $600 bucks. And that just gets you through the front door.

Hell they're right up there with the Catholics and their dispensations scam.

They still haven't got that whole guys walking around in dresses thing down yet though.

Oh wait I saw John running around in a dress in "Hairspray".

Not true. I went to Catholic Church for twelve years and was never "required" to give them a dime.

Try doing that with Scientology.

Good luck.

I'm no longer a Catholic, but I think that it's a myth that ALL "religions" are just the same as the most dangerous cults. The number ONE difference is that with cults like Scientology, the MONEY IS THE THING. There is no one in the upper levels of Scientology who doesn't know this. It was started and it continues as an organization for one purpose and one purpose only: to make the "inner circle" of Scientology filthy rich.

To say that they are just the same as modest-living priests and nuns who renounce worldly possessions and live out their lives as charitable workers (e.g. Mother Theresa and her nuns nursing the brutalized poor and sick in Calcutta) is not just an insult, it's irrational.

I understand how much fun atheists have making fun of ALL religion on the Internet, but you might think for a moment about how a "religion" that takes away the life-savings of mentally weak people is DIFFERENT from a religion that opens all rituals, all teachings, all services to the most abjectly poor people on Earth AT NO CHARGE.

It should be obvious to any serious student of religions that there is a WORLD of difference between a nun nursing the frail and poor, versus a shill for Scientology.

Why don't interviewers ever ask, "and what might those techniques be"? Do it with a nice smile too. Make it really hard for them to say, "you gotta pay to hear that".

You see all the time how $cientologists are talking about the "churches" techniques, but they never get in depth. This is sign one of probable fraud to me. Just like when other flimflam artists speak of perpetual motion machines, but don't divulge the tech behind it. When they do eventually, it's just another lame variation of an unworkable idea. But they got the bread by then.

I just imagine $cientology's secrecy is a scam to sucker more in to pay for the info. And then it's at best garden variety self help silliness. I'm certainly not going to pay to find out.

It's much, much worse than "garden variety self help silliness".

It's a systematic approach of brain-washing with the SOLE purpose of making hundreds of millions of dollars off of their "devotees".

It's a very evil, very skillful flim-flam.

"It keeps us constantly growing spiritually, happy and grounded."

Grounded in myth and fantasy.

Religion, a crutch for a crippled mind.
