Colorado Students Chant "White Power" During Immigration Discussion

It started with a simple question and ended with at least one student chanting "white power" in a classroom.

It happened Tuesday in a classroom at Holy Family High School, the Catholic school that sits at the corner of 144th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard in Broomfield.

The classroom discussion started with the question: Why do students need to learn Spanish?

According to the Archdiocese of Denver, the conversation soon became about immigration and it turned ugly.

"It became a heated discussion and some rhetoric was used that was inappropriate for the classroom," said Jeanette DeMelo, spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Denver.

At least one e-mail sent to 9NEWS said that at least one student started a chant of "white power" and some said that all Mexicans should go back to Mexico.

I recently read a column about white kids being bused accross town to minority schools due to a racial parity scheme. All of the young white kids were harassed and many assaulted. In one instance a young white girl was told she was, "Too pretty to be a virgin" and was assaulted by her minority classmates. To compound the matter, the mother could not afford to move or pay for private schools. The mother was then threatened with jail if the daughter was not sent back to school.
When I read this column about ONE white kid standing up, making a stupid statement and later being punished I'm suprised it made the news. The worst these minority kids had to hear is "White Power" and illegal aliens need to go back to Mexico. Illegal aliens DO need to return to Mexico. As for the "White Power" statement, it's asinine but it's not like this young idiot got up on stage screaming Kramer like epithets. I doubt this needs national news coverage.

They did not say that "illegal aliens" need to go back to Mexico.

They said that ALL Mexicans need to go back to Mexico.

Maybe this does deserve national news coverage and maybe it doesn't. But at the very least this topic is worth discussing since people like yourself for seem reason seem to overlook the part about "ALL Mexicans" needing to go back to Mexico, rather than just the illegal ones.

Note that it happened in a catlick school. That's what happens when our ancestors let urish catlicks in, then Italians, then slopes. While using wheel barrows got more work out of inferior races-it got them used to standing up like humans & the got airs that they was human tew. We should've shot them like we did indians, killed their kids if they bred & deported em when they couldn't work. There is still some hope-give Colorado & all other land we stole from Mejicans back NOW. We'll have to pay Mejico big time but it'll be worth every cent.

All of my kids went to parochial schools and while the administration and teachers do their best to foster a tolerant all inclusive atmosphere that's not why a great many parents have their kids in parochial or other private schools.

Bigots unfortunately have for years been pulling their kids out of public schools and putting them in parochial schools. Little Johnny brings with him the same views as Big Johnny.

In areas with large Catholic populations and a long history of parochial education it's not a huge problem, but all it takes is one or two students aping the bigotry of their parents to poison the atmosphere.

hey our taking the illegals allows those south american countries to maintain their elitist status and gives american businesses cheap labor to max profits and gives the demos more voters and gives the catholic churchs more people to fill their pews.

God damn it!!! HuffPost headline writers! ONE STUDENT after a stupid, boring high school assembly said it THREE OR FOUR TIMES! To take what is a non-story story to begin with, and add a patently misleading headline to jazz it up, is either dumb or deliberately cynical on somebody's part.

At least on kid chanted "White Power."
It sounds like a non story. One to four kids misbehaved and this story makes it seem like they held a Klan rally in the classroom.

Off topic a bit, I rememer seeing a reprint of a political cartoon from sometime in the 1800's regarding women in the clergy. It portrayed an old and rather evil looking bishop, in complete Church-drag(hat, dress, shoes and make-up(which was worn at the time)saying that women were far too frivolous to be members of the clergy!

If they are Mexicans then they are not American citizens. So then the question becomes are they here with documents or without.

If they are here with documents then the terms of documents should be followed closely. If they are not here with documents and they are Mexicans then obviously they should be sent back to Mexico.

And by the way, it is impossible for the majority of American citizens to be "racist" against the majority of Latinos or Hispanics.

What do you mean what? If they are Mexicans then they are citizens of Mexico not the United States.

Latino and Hispanic are not races. The majority are at least mostly Caucasian. The majority of Americans are at least mostly Caucasian.

It is IMPOSSIBLE for a Caucasian to be RACIST against a Caucasian.

How is this news? I'm confused about the agenda of the Huffington Post. I'm a new reader, but have mostly enjoyed reading, but this being posted here blows my mind. Like typical journalistic sensationalism (which I had come to expect less of here than on the 6 o'clock news), the headline suggests some sort of mass uprising, when infact it appears it was a single kid at the back of the room.. probably thinking he was being funny. Have some restraint and try to report on something worthy. It's ok if you don't get a post up every 10 minutes... we'll wait for something real. Racist high school kids goofing off during class just doesn't deserve this kind of attention.
