GOP Candidates Considering Picking Iraq War General As Vice President

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:44 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

Washington Times:

Three of the eight announced 2008 Republican presidential campaigns are considering retired Army Gen. Tommy Franks as their pick for vice presidential candidate, according to Republican Party operatives.

Gen. Franks, commander of U.S. Central Command until he retired in 2003, orchestrated the military campaign that ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

The choice of Gen. Franks as vice president would be a direct affront to antiwar Democrats, who plan to make opposition to the Bush administration's handling of the war the main plank of their campaign platforms.

There is a God.
Tell me I'm not dreaming.
Judy Ruliani and Tommy Franks on the same ticket.

Oh happy day.

Franks? LMAO...GOP in freefall indeed.

Interesting, perhaps. If Wes Clark shows up
as the Democrat's VP choice, the Republicans
will want to get a General for their ticket also.

Tommy Franks, that book-shilling bitch, forgot the oath he took to support the Constitution of the United States, and instead signed off on the half-baked pipedream of Wolfowitz, Feith, Rumsnamara, and "Dead-Eye" Dick Cheney.

He then disgracefully abandoned the troops he had painted into a corner by leaving his post and command in a transparent attempt to avoid culpability for an operational meltdown early on in the occupation.

Franks was neither a competent tactician, nor a savvy strategist. And in the end, he didn't even have the sack to stick around to perform even token damage control.

Yeah, listening to that starstruck sycophant lecture the American people on loyalty and courage for an entire campaign season would be entertaining indeed.

What a great opportunity for ads for the Democratic candidate.

Shot 1: a small mountain of bricks. Caption/voiceover: This is how much plastic explosive was stolen in Iraq because Tommy Franks left it unguarded.

Shot 2: An array of a dozen or so photos of our casualties. Caption/voiceover: these are just a few of the thousands of Americans killed or wounded by IEDs made with those explosives.

Or, a video of Iraqis looting and rioting. Voiceover: America entrusted Tommy Franks with the security of Iraqis. Can we trust him with our own?

Tommy Franks will go down in history as a strategic, operational, and tactical buffoon. They will be teaching him at the military academies for generations: "now class, this is what you DO NOT do if you want to avoid being a big, sorry loser."

"ambition + stupidity = dead troops."

Franks is a yes man who help make Iraq a mess. He went along with too few troops, he left ammo and weapons laying all over the place as he moved to Baghdad telling others not to worry, it was not his concern. The last thing we need is a brown nosed general who knows little about civilian affairs. He has no honor in my book!

does anyone else get the feeling that the president is truly becoming a figurehead, and has done so more and more over the past six and a half years? it's almost like we'll have four branches of government soon - executive (vp), judicial, legislative, and military (president).

Just what the US needs; another Republican from Texas on the ticket.

At least this one is not a draft dodger.

Franks was a Great General !??!

His Iraq "plan" was perhaps the most inept ever conceived by an American commanding general, and that includes the many blunderers during the Civil War.
