"It's Finished": Search Called Off In Utah Mine Disaster

Salt Lake Tribune:

"They are done. It's finished," said Colin King, a Salt Lake City-based attorney who represents the families of the missing miners. "It's a hard and bitter pill for our families, and there were quite a few tears shed."

Chris Allred, a cousin of trapped miner Kerry Allred, wishes the search had not been called off. She said Friday evening that she doesn't know what her family will do at this point.

When there is sleazy news to report, always do it on the weekend.

I hope the miners families who supported Bush have realized that they helped cause this by voting for a political party that has gutted public safety laws. (and I am speaking REAL public safety, not protecting us from ourselves or unscientific ideas like "second hand smoke")
The most important safety laws deal with how business acts in order to make profit.

As a Democrat, Union Member, and American. I just want to express my deepest sympathy to the loved ones of the miners. And to those who died trying to rescue them.
This is not about politics. This is about families torn to shreds. I cannot even imagine what they went through.
May they rest in peace.

Waw!Waw!waw! lets all cry now that the search iss called off, I am sorry for sounding so harsh but WHY is everyone laying down I have been asking for weeks why isn't Murray or Murphy what ever the MURDERS name is not being brought to trail for MURDER, he made a CLEAR CUT desicion to CU^T safety for DOLLars there by putting the workers in jeporday.

His own admittance of guilkt and lack of concern when he disappeared then ame back asking the people to go back to work showsa clear disregard for you emotions and life.

Lets bring this guy up on MURDER charges with a trail by JURY in the town of the accident and NO plea Bargain just a honest to godness trail with a immediate hanging or lethal injection.

Sue their asses and drive him out of the death-mining business.

And as for: "They knew the risks..." yeah, but did anyone explain to the miners that the MSHA officials had been bought off to O.K. the mining? That NO ONE should have been allowed in to this particular dig and that they were entering a high risk mine? I really really doubt it.

Yes, miners know it's dangerous, but these poor fellows had no union to tell Murray "No." What choice is that? Go in or your families starve?

Is this the 21st century or the 19th? This Admin's turned the clock WAY back.

Once I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

As hard as it is for the families, I wouldn't want the deaths of more searchers to cloud the memory of lost loved ones.

Seal the mine, put up a memorial, put Murray in jail and divide his mines and assets among all his miners and their families.

Good honk! We agree on something!!!

Yes, there needs to be justice; surely sacrificing people's lives over known violations of safety rules is akin to homicide.

That, however, does not change the fact that, much as I sympathize with the families, it is pointless to risk the lives of any additional rescuers to acquire the remains of the already dead, so that they may be moved from one hole in the ground to another.

ROTFLMAO!!!

But when will they begin the search for evilness.

Starting with one of the 5 finest Americans?

The men knew the risk when they took the job.
Underground coal miner is about the only job that doesn't require even a high school diploma to get and pays an average salary of 45 K per year.
The only requirement education wise is the applicant must have completed an 80 hour class on basic mining safety and pass a test afterwards to get their card.
Every underground coal miner in the world KNOWS when he enters the portal for the day's work that it could well be his last day alive.
And that is especially true when working in a mine that is removing the pillars that support the roof.

Yeah, the least they could do is drop Mr. Murray down one of those rescue holes before they seal it up.

God Rest Their Souls, and forgive that hateful old man.

those poor souls will be treated better 1500 ft under the surface than they would have been in the mormon non union state of utah.

jail first, then forgiveness

It's not finished till Murray is in jail.

Correct-Amundo!
