Within hours, the letters to the editor started coming in. "Condoleezza Rice serves an administration that has trashed the basic values of academia: reason, science, expertise, and honesty. Stanford should not welcome her back," wrote Don Ornstein, identified by the newspaper as an emeritus professor of mathematics in a letter published May 31.

Online comments on the newspaper's Web site were even harsher, a veritable stream of vitriol. One of the milder posts came from Jon Wu, who did not give an affiliation: "Please go away, Rice. We don't want someone who is responsible for the slaughter of an entire nation teaching at our school."

I think the stain she refers to is the slightly discolored patch in the cesspool of her legacy....

lies, murder, theft, treason, ignorance, ineptitude, ugliness, you name it, she should leave this country and find an honored spot in some 3rd world shit hole where her 'skills' would be appreciated!!!

There's a congressional research service report Henry Waxman commissioned, when he was in the minority.

It's called "Iraq On The Record" and it's a sort of scholarly and exhaustive compilation of various misleading/blatantly dishonest statements made by Dr. Rice, Dick Cheney, Stephen Hadley and Colin Powell.

The comments were made to Americans, using various media outlets.

It even includes a handy graph of the "ebb and flow" of false statements made, they peak, naturally, in the 2 weeks prior to the invasion.

I think Stanford needs a copy.

Well, she sat on her g.d. hands for the longest time while the Israelis and Lebanese went at it.

I should have said while the Israelis and Hezbollah went at it. The Lebanese were caught in the cross-fire.

It is "RICE" who is the stain on Iraq! Her tenure in politics is nothing more than a species of "Bush Parrot" that is programmed to repeat the phrase of "Weapons of Mass Destruction".

She is a perfect "liar" and that is her legacy as it should be.

History will judge her harshly as she has been instrumental in the destruction and killing of thousand of Iraqis, no to mention our own soldiers.
Her political philosophy has been equivalent to that during the cold war, always searching for an enemy to excuse our hegemonic policies.

She will be described as a puppet and for his complicity a war criminal.

That mushroom cloud nonsense is the statement that will always be associated with her.

I like the one where she told John Kerry during hearings on Iraq that the US had "differences" at it's founding, and then mentioned slavery, but told him not to worry, those were solved using political means.

She was at that time denying that the different factions in Iraq were warring, and this is the analogy she chose.

He responded: "we had a Civil War".

The nice lady seems to carry a contagious bacterial disease of still more lies! A disgusting curse on all their homes! May the world not be infested by these pieces of fecal matter! If one conspires to over throw the constitution of our country, then they all are co-conspirators in this crime, and must do the time, but only through what the War Crimes Tribunal sets forth from The Hague! They changed the law to protect themselves, so, we shall change the law back, and they must stand trial!

She's a stain on the country, she went before
cameras on national televison and LIED and
spread FEAR. She should be forever known as
the woman who LIED about "mushroom clouds,"
and knew she was LYING TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
She also is the woman who during Katrina,
shopped for shoes in New York.
She is a digusting person and as much a war
criminal as BUSH, CHENEY & RUMSFELD.

As usual, HufPo takes a distorted story and further distorts the headline to advance its own agenda while lending support to the terrorists. History will show that Rice was a brave and towering intellect among a bunch of illiterate and cowering surrender monkeys.

Nope.

This is about her former peers looking at the record and saying she comes up short.

It's like when President Bush's supporters point to his two terms as "proof" that he's a competent President.

It's proof that he's President.

She's in Bush's Cabinet, all right. The question is what she did there when reaching that job.

That's a tougher standard than getting the job.

Exactly where can a reasonable person look to examine Condi's legacy with the US executive?

And if one does look, what 'bright spots' will one find?

A review will find absolute failure and absolute deferrence to the clueless George, Rummy and Dick. [ Did I mention the failure to predict the collapse of the Russian 'empire'? ]

"Rice Considers Iraq A "Stain" On Her Legacy" -
Well she is wrong, as Iraq IS HER Legacy so without the alleged 'stain' she is non-existent in the publics eye.

Got shame?

Skeeza's academic credentials are weak, and do not include Stanford.

Rice graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1970. In 1974, at age 19, Rice earned her B.A. in political science, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Denver. In 1975, she obtained her Master's Degree in political science from the University of Notre Dame. She first worked in the State Department in 1977, during the Carter administration, as an intern in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. In 1981, at the age of 26, she received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the Graduate School of International Studies at Denver.

Those are a hell of a lot weaker than mine.

This isn't about her credentials as an academic.

Other than a couple of comments sent in, it's not even about the morality/immorality of Iraq. It's about accomplishment.

They're saying it isn't enough to be appointed to President Bush's Cabinet. They're comparing her work to the work of those Cabinet members who have gone before her, and saying she comes up short.

That's fair. It's not about disagreement, it's about merit. What did she set out to do and did she accomplish that?

I think it's agreed that she attained great power, and that's an accomplishment.

It isn't enough, though. You have to use it wisely and well.

Notice how it's a stain on her legacy but not on her conscience. I'm worn out by these politicians who are only concerned with building a legacy, a legacy built on the backs and lives of millions of other human beings.

Legacy, huh, Dr. Rice?

All the web definitions for "legacy", except those dealing with fraternities and sororities, are some version of: "a gift of personal property by will".

As such, a legacy is thought of in common vernacular as a positive thing, a gift of treasure or good will or of good things left behind.

What I want to know, and here I'd like Dr. Rice to be specific, just what positive gifts she has given this country? She was an unmitigated disaster as National Security Adviser...she was briefed, in some detail, by George Tenet on 10 July 2001 about the immediacy of the threat of an al Queda attack; yet she did less than nothing and then told America "Nobody could have foreseen these attacks..." after the fact.

As Secretary of State, she has been worse than useless--counterproductive, in fact (just what did she think would come of that latest kerfluffle she caused on her recent Mideast trip?).

So, Dr. Rice--just what positive gift, what bounty of good will and wealth, just exactly what "legacy", have you left that Iraq could possibly stain?

Even your former colleagues at Stanford don't want you back...
