British army chief attacks US as 'intellectually bankrupt' over Iraq

The former head of the British Army has attacked US postwar policy, calling it "intellectually bankrupt".
General Sir Mike Jackson, who headed the army during the war in Iraq, described as "nonsensical" the claim by the former US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that US forces "don't do nation-building". He has also hit back at suggestions that British forces had failed in Basra.

Mr Rumsfeld was "one of the most responsible for the current situation in Iraq," Gen Jackson says in his autobiography, Soldier. He describes Washington's approach to fighting global terrorism as "inadequate" for relying on military power over diplomacy and nation-building.

Is Judith Miller still at the NYT and writing under the name "Helene Cooper". This article was Bush/Rice spin, pure and simple.

How could a serious journalist write a 2,300 word article about Rice and her legacy and omit any reference to September 11, 2001? Is it just a minor detail that Rice was National Security Advisor when the nation was attacked? The role of the National Security Advisor is to coordinate the foreign and defense policies of the country, and advise the President on issues of national security.

There is a substantial body of evidence that Rice was aware of but failed to give priority to reports of an imminent al Qaeda attack, or was not sufficiently assertive to focus President Bush's attention on the threat. The President's Daily Security Brief on August 6, 2001 stated "Bin Ladin Determined to Strike". Rice received a briefing from then CIA Director George Tenet and top CIA counterterrorism expert Cofer Black on July 10, 2001 in which reportedly stated in the starkest terms that an al Qaeda attack was imminent. What about the Daily Briefing from the Clinton era saying "Bin Ladin Determined to Hijack US Aircraft and Other Attacks."

By any reasonable standard, Rice failed the nation miserably as national security advisor in 2001. She failed again when she was an enabler for the President in conflating 9/11 and Iraq, and in spreading propoganda to justify an elective, unprovoked war, alienating much of the world and many U.S. allies.

Rice's legacy is the same as Bush's. She's an incompetent, lying, war-mongering, criminal. She should be shunned by any higher education institution with any ounce of integrit. Let her go be a "scholar" at the George W. Bush Library and Center for Propoganda at Southern Methodist University, and spend her weekends at the Crawford Ranch.

Poor Condi. Let's all cry crocodile tears for her. It's too bad that her "legacy" is so tarnished by her incompetent performance as National Security Advisor.

As penance, for her job poorly done, I sentence her to go to Baghdad, live there for 60 days, put on body armour everyday, and ride with our troops through the streets and villages that she created because she backed the wrong horse's ass.
