CBS News anchor Katie Couric is currently reporting from Iraq. Today she spoke to Bob Schieffer on CBS's Face the Nation and largely reiterated Gen. Petraeus's talking points on Iraq.

She said that Petraeus believes there "really is a trend" of success on the security situation in Iraq and believes President Bush's escalation "needs to continue." She also recounted "signs of life that seem to be normal" at a market she visited, but then conceded that the positive aspects of her report are based on "what the U.S. military wants" her to see.

For anyone on this blog truly interested in taking a stand beyond firing totally useless barbs and insults at one another, do what I did this morning, and will continue to do until the US rights its course -- voice your concerns to ALL of your state's congressional reps. Send letters, emails, and call their offices regardless of their district.
What we have in the US is either apathy, or "analysis paralysis" -- but not nearly enough true activism on behalf of the American public.
While to some, it might sound naive or futile, I still believe that it is worth the time and effort to share my views and concerns with the political body that has the ability to bring our troops home, and to prevent Bush's planned attack on Iran. These are the folks who really need to hear your voices. And they need to hear it NOW, before it is too late.

Katie continues the glorious tradition of white cowards trampling the graves of brown innocents they have recently murdered.

As opposed to telling the "truth" that liberals want to hear: Bush bashing, hatred of America, etc.

I saw that.

She is frankly a shill. A Bush-loving, money (CBS) loving shill.

Never a reporter. Never a skeptic. Never a member of the fourth estate.

I think that Bob Schieffer is just biding his time, too. He just smiled, and never dug deeper except her prepared script. He wants to retire safely with his skin intact. Poor thing.

Nice US Constitution and Bill of Rights we used to have.

Ugh.

Too little, too late!

Katie isn't reporter enough to see the REAL story, right under her nose: that everything the reporters see & hear is only what the administration wants them to see & hear. Spending the entire report mindlessly & without question repeating the administration's talking points, and then slipping in that ons qualifying phrase shows that she is incapable of doing a real reporters job and finding the truth.

She is better suited for interviewing movie stars and doing fashion reports.

If Couric is there to see only what the powers that be want her to see, then why in hell is she there? Oh yeah, to help the 26%, the dummies, maintain their support of W.
The rest of us know that she'll be "reporting" bullshit.
Silly.

nunzia, of course that's the idea -- to push as much propaganda ahead of the Petraeus report which will be censored heavily so that the public is not told about the failure of the entire war.

It is the same garbage we heard yesterday on Meet the Press when Republican Senator Lindsey Graham predicted great things will continue to happen in Iraq and the surge is working to perfection.

Remember, he's the same senator who joined Senator John McCain in the photo op a couple of months back when they both strode through the streets of Baghdad wearing bullet-proof vests accompanied by 100 heavily armed U.S. troop escort with 5 Apache and Blackhawk helicopters to escort Senator Graham's shopping spree purchase of 5 rugs for 5 dollars.

What else can we expect from Republicans leaders who are the biggest liars and deceivers we have ever seen? Up is down, black is white and wrong is right -- that's the hallmark of the Bush mob.

The headline story "Couric: Baghdad Reports Based On "What the US Military Wants Me to See" belies the truth if you watched the entire Schieffer/Couric interview. Couric, far from dissing Bush's surge in Iraq, praised the progress and made it clear that she will push Bush's agenda to continue the daily slaughter.

Her reports from Baghdad all during this week are a prelude to the Petraeus propaganda that will be whitewashed for public consumption in a blistering PR campaign to convince the American citizens that we must continue the Bush war policies until he leaves office in January 2009.

The ultra-conservative organization, Freedom's Watch chief spokesman, former Bush White House press chief, Ari Fleischer, said recently, "All the passion, all the energy, has been on one side. Now, the cavalry is coming. My side will get a chance to get its say."

"My side," ignores all the lies and total mushroom cloud rhetoric that bumped Bush's approval ratings from a dismal 50% to over 90% in the run-up to the Iraq bombing, invasion and occupation of a country that had no connection at all to the catastrophe of 9/11

In the 2006 election in which Bush lost his rubber stamp, gutless, corrupt Republican U.S. Congress he spouted that if the Democrats won either or both houses of congress then America loses and the terrorists win.

Now, Fleischer wants to further this inflammatory ritual of lies and again affirm the adage, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." And, of course, that is the game plan.

Bush operatives are using Katie Couric as his new Miller Lite ala New York Times writer Judith Miller who shilled for Bush's propaganda in those early days of the war. She got rolled along with the rest of the mainstream media during Bush's shock and awe assault against Iraq.

Now, CBS's Couric will aid and abet in allowing Bush to kill and wound hundreds more U.S. military and put tens of thousands more Iraqi citizens in early graves.

Hmmmm...that is a revelation how, Katie?

The embedded reporting and what the military allows you to report is not news, Katie...you know it...Bob Schieffer better know it...and CBS News assuredly knows it.

The day you and CBS go out on a limb and report news for real will be the day that at least one mainstream outlet gets its journalism mojo back. The once mighty CBS News`has long been tarnished...time to restore its former hardhitting glory.

Spoonfed spin is done...here that, Roger Fatboy Ailes?

You are exactly correct, she's a reader,no asking about going out on her own to ask questions of the"man on the street" or any plan as to what she'd like to present to the audience. She gives us fluff as she was ordered to do,or as she requested to do, in order to be considered a "serious"reporter.I give her credit for admitting what she did but there is no way she can establish herself as a thoughtful, hard hitting investigative reporter by filling her resume with fluff. She is totally out of her depth.

Don't want to say I told you so - but I did tell you so when it was first announced that Couric was going to Iraq.

"Why doesn't she simply read the White House talking points from her studio in NY? That's all we are going to eventually get from her anyway. Think anyone will actually allow interviews with the Iraq people that were not hand picked by the Bush administration - think again. posted 08/29/2007 at 07:22:51"

Is there anyone that did not see Couric being played by the administration?

Katie Couric, the Bush/Cheney appologist, said "signs of life that seem to be normal" at a market she visited."

Why do these tools only go to some market?

Why don't they talk to the Iraqi people where they live, in what is left of their homes?

Why not talk to the two million Iraqis who escaped to Syria, Jordan or Egypt and are living in poverty?

What is the point of walking around a market in Iraq?

I am not impressed.

Walking in a market. But never talking to anyone in depth.

I am told that if anyone is seen (visually documented) talking with a US shill, that person's life is over.

It is only in the outside that she could have dug deeper for the truth.

But hell, she is no reporter. No member of the fourth estate. No supporter of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Couric = shill.

Ugh.
