Denver Post:

The following is a text of two voice messages that Rep. Doug Lamborn left on the home telephone of Jonathan and Anna Bartha.

FIRST MESSAGE: "Hello, this is Doug Lamborn calling for either Jonathan or Anna. Something very serious has happened. There was a letter to the editor that you both put in your names to the editor of the Woodmen Edition and there is something that is blatantly false in that letter.

"I would like to get together with you and show this to you and appeal to you as a brother and sister in Christ. You didn't give me that opportunity but I am happy to overlook that and deal with you on that level because I think that is the right thing to do and show you where you made a blatant, wrong statement.

"Now there are consequences to this kind of thing, but I would like to work with you in a way that is best for everyone here concerned. So please call me at your earliest convenience. It is now 2:40 (p.m.) on Saturday afternoon.

For those of us unfortunate to live in this district, this is no surprise. The man is a pathetic loser. Anyone who saw him campaigning was astounded the man won the republican bid. Those of us working for his democratic opponent were sure that our fine candidate Jay Fawcett would win. Sure, no dem has won this district EVER. But, I honestly believed that no sane human being, be they democratic or republican, independent or libertarian, could in good conscience vote for this fool. But they did...in droves because Dobson told them too. How scary is that?

Why did the Congressman bring up CHRIST???? Relgion and Politics are two seperat issues, LET'S KEEP IT THAT WAY.

Other than that the congressman's books are open to all, if the he does not like people commenting on what he did, or $ that he got as donations, then he should leave congress!

Isn't this the GOP story in a nutshell?

A couple of real believers,
call the bluff of the phoney GOP moralists
hiding behind the Bible.

Hilarious.

Larry Craig, Ted Haggerty, yadda yadda.

Just another verse in the same song.

I would also call the bluff of this bully
and just call him out.
Meet me at such and such a time and be ready to fight.

Threaten me and memebers of my family ON THE PHONE?!

What courage!!!

Like most bullies, he would fold like a wet bag.

Like Larry "The Voice of God" Craig.
Gives new meaning to the word "sissy".

This is the mentality of the Rethugican Party since Bush. The Hell with the Constitution and the First Amendment! Arrest the "war protesters!" Even arrest those protesters who are peaceful "Quakers!" In the 7 short years of this inept administration, our country has gone seriously "down the tubes," losing many of the gains of the last 200 years of history! Now, we cannot even use our "Freedom of Speech" to write a "Letter to the Editor?" Good for this couple for publicizing this idiot's threats! I hope that there are still enough intelligent people left in his district to remember the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, so that they will vote him out of office at the first possible opportunity!

What would one expect from this neocon Christofascist?

Progressive Punch gives Lamborn a rating of .94% on his voting record:

The ACLU gives Lamborn 0% on his voting record in the 110th Congress:

AARP give Lamborn a thumbs down:

I find this story disturbing on several levels, mostly coming down to what this Congressman believes is acceptable behavior for a person in public office. Seems to me a rebuttal letter, along with sources to support it, would have been a much more appropriate response. If he felt like he had to meet with these people, he should have sent them a letter or had an underling call and schedule a meeting. The issues they brought up don't seem to warrant such an extreme response, hell, they didn't say he got a BJ or something, did they?

The action he chose seems at best unprofessional, at worst stalker-mode. And the most inappropriate action of all, bringing the people's religion into it. It's even worse that they share (more or less, probably)the same religious views, because the congressman seems to be implying that their God is on the his side in this dispute. Not to mention the extreme inappropriateness of an elected official bringing religion into a political matter. Call me old-fashioned (I still believe the Founders were right to separate government and religion), but religious references had no place in that message.

Unfortunately, these days it is considered not only appropriate but mandatory for politicians to talk ceaselessly about their religion.

This free commingling of religion and politics that we see in even 'appropriate' (non-criminal) discourse proves what hypocrites the neocons are when they call Iran a 'theocracy.'
I doubt the mullahs in Iran are such hicks as the ones on Colorado.

Shortly thereafter, Lamborn left another message in which he said, "I'd rather resolve this on a Scriptural level but if you are unwilling to do that I will be forced to take other steps, which I would rather not have to do."

Who says things like "I'd rather resolve this on a scriptural level"? I don't know anybody who talks like that.

The scriptural level to which he refers is that as brothers and sisters in Christ that they meet and work it as equals, followers of Christ, and that this be kept within the religion as it were.

LOL, first these people have already aired the disagreement to the public. Second this is a political disagreement and I am not sure that is what scripture was referring to anyway. Third, how can he take care of this on scriptural level when he bears political power that can be intimidating, can he really meet them as equals?

Yes threatening people "on scriptural level" is such an act of Christianity. The sheer hypocrisy and downright moronic behavior of the GOP continues to astound me. Where do they recruit these people? Ah that's right, in the churches.
No wonder they are such idiots.

Quite a novel strategy to win the election- threaten the voters. My favorite part though is this elected official's request to correct the claimed error by "get[ting] together with you and show this to you and appeal to you as a brother and sister in Christ." He also wants to "resolve this on a Scriptural level." Imagine this kind of comment being made 20 years ago. Are these fundamentalists so deluded that they can only relate on a religious level? Do only Christians count anymore? We are closer to a theocracy than we know.

ResidentChimp, you are a bit thick. It is not what he said as much as the fact that a powerful politician calls your home and leaves messages over a friggin letter to the editor. But hey, maybe you consider stalker behavior par for your politicians. You know instead of that he could have had one of his little political sycophants with a B.A to pen a rebuttal. I am sure the Gazette would have published it for him.

can we have some background and context with this. maybe even the letter that prompted this? Those are vital bits of info for this story but nowhere to be found
