Denver Post:

The following is a text of two voice messages that Rep. Doug Lamborn left on the home telephone of Jonathan and Anna Bartha.

FIRST MESSAGE: "Hello, this is Doug Lamborn calling for either Jonathan or Anna. Something very serious has happened. There was a letter to the editor that you both put in your names to the editor of the Woodmen Edition and there is something that is blatantly false in that letter.

"I would like to get together with you and show this to you and appeal to you as a brother and sister in Christ. You didn't give me that opportunity but I am happy to overlook that and deal with you on that level because I think that is the right thing to do and show you where you made a blatant, wrong statement.

"Now there are consequences to this kind of thing, but I would like to work with you in a way that is best for everyone here concerned. So please call me at your earliest convenience. It is now 2:40 (p.m.) on Saturday afternoon.

If Lamborn was this threatening toward a couple of fellow Republicans I'd hate to hear the messages he would leave on a Democrat's answering machine.

Since this Congressman mentioned Christ, you can bet that he has a pretty wide stance.

Someone pays attention in the Denver area to Letters to the Editor?

I cannot get any of mine published any more, since my local rag only touts those it agrees with. I still give it a try, from time to time, but I have not had one published in several years now.

Keep on writing them, folks. We are in such desperate straits that every little bit of sensible criticism helps.

The context is mentioned above. I was wondering too but if you look at the post by Grainger5 you will see what it was all about.

Apparently the good little Thug party member was backing gambling interests by voting AGAINST a bill further criminalizing dog fighting and got pissed at voters for having the temerity to actually call him on it!!

How DARE THEY hold an elected official accountable!!!!

StealGeorgia's point stands. The Huffington Post is a large organization, and Arianna is a wealthy, powerful woman.
Hell, even I can cut and paste.

pelosiforpresident - "StealGeorgia's point stands." LMAO If you both agree Congressmen should intimidate from their positions of power, trust and authority regarding faith. Something which has no place as a threatening issue.

No wonder our country is turning for the worse? Tiny little minds like you and thumper.

"StealGeorgia's point stands -" so sayeth thou, you pompous . . . . . . nevermind.

And this fucking dumbass didn't think that they'd run right to the media with his little phone message? This couple is untouchable now because he's fucked himsilf good an proper now. We should be getting ready for YET ANOTHER "I've made a terrbile mistake..." speech from ANOTHER GOP hammerhead. It's going to be fun watching the total destruction of the GOP in '09. Not even the trolls can deny that that'll happen at this point.

Yeah, he'll go to Jesus Camp for three weeks like Haggard and come out 'cured' of his Mafia-like tendency to try to intimidate "little people" into giving up their Constitutionally protected right to free speech.

Meh.

That was a terribly written article. It had no context.
What is the "Woodman Edition"?
What was in the letter?
When was it published
Who are the couple and what is their relation to the Congressman?
Where did this happen?
When did this happen (other than a dateless "Saturday")?

Why did I have to google their names to find out that they were simply another couple of fundy brownshirts?

This article goes to the heart of why news on the internet is full of crap. Modern internet reporters simply plagerize other people's work, and poorly at that.

We deserve, no, demand much better than this article! The HuffPo staff should pull it, and try again until they get it right.

Sheesh. This has been going on ever since you re-factored the site a few months back. You better get on the stick. I am beginning to go elsewhere for your kind of "news" because they are getting better at it.

Maybe you should do some research, not trying to make you look bad, but yeah, the Denver Post could have been a little more thorough in that article. Course, we don't all live in Colorado to know what's going on. But this website in Colorado, should clear up all your concerns.

http://www.coloradoconfidential.com/showDiary.do;jsessionid=9E1BEF1F8884FE4B1889A45822A6764C?diaryId=2676

They got the letters to the editor, the GOP guys letter to the county GOP folks to try and get an investigation opened into the couple, and the pertaining FEC documents that prove the couple is right in their allegations against the GOP Rep Lamborn. ;) Funny how Lamborn was upset with their revealing of his accepting GAMBLING MONEY twice, but he apparently doesn't have a problem with their revealing he voted against restrictions on dog-fighting (more gamling). ;)

Anyways, the letter to the editor was published on Aug 24, 2007. Less than 2 weeks ago. Also it says the Woodman Edition is a local newspaper for Colorado Springs. From there it spread to the Colorado Springs Gazette, Denver Post and now hopefully it will be in major newspapers across the country. :)

Remember people, this story to the Denver Post and it's target readers, is a local story. The proper context is already there!

The national media is only getting on this story, it will be up to the national media and its audience to find that context.

Wow I wonder does this Bozo (no offence to the real Bozo) know that making threats of any sort, is agaisnt the law? Or does this congressman think he is above the law like Bush?

Thank you. This article is not informative as posted. It took considerable time to track down the original article with the letter to be able to evaluate this. All of us have the right to present an argument and hopefully would do it as clearly as this couple did in their letter. No matter who they are or what they represent, they do not deserve this guy's response to the letter as published. Since we can't hear his voice intonation, we don't know for sure but we could conjecture that he meant to be threatening and that's against the law.
Democracy has its "downsides" - listening to people we don't agree with(translation: nutcases). But let's not break down any more constitutional rights to free speech any more than this administration has already done by jumping in before getting the full story.

My comment above was supposed to end up under StealGeorgia's comment below. Speaking of free speech, does anyone else get a yellow banner on their internet explorer page that comes up with "This Web page could be a scam, Proceed with caution"? This has been appearing on my system for about two weeks now. Are the Repubs giving us their opinions this way as well? Sheesh! Anyone know the source of this unhelpful comment on explorer?

I'd rather resolve this on a Scriptural level

Really now

Like turn the other cheek?

Or love thine enemies?

Or will you have St. Guido break their legs.

Or perhaps, “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.”

Just color me cynical.

Why doesn't he just "Scripturally level" them in FORKED TONGUES (they should have no trouble understanding each other).

Verbal abuse less prosecutable than physical abuse?

Ah...the jackbooted brown-shirts of the Republican Party--if they can't get power with vision, statesmanship and hard work, they'll happily resort to thuggery.

I hope this is vigorously prosecuted.
