Oscar-winning director Woody Allen does not believe he has influenced other filmmakers.

Asked Sunday if his decades of work had left a mark, the 71-year-old New Yorker insisted that as far as he could tell, it has not.

"Oddly enough, over the years I've never felt that I have influenced anyone," he said.

I can state that I think Woody is a great film-maker, and I can appreciate the fact that the actors he hires are treated like adults, capable of doing there job.
However, if you look back on a film like "Manhattan" - knowing everything that went down 20 years later, it appears that he was trying to justify his behavior (and find acceptance for it) with his film work.
For those that go on about how smart Woody is, or who claim that a college education makes the difference in understanding his films or what happened between Mia and Woody, it doesn't. He and Mia shared a life, for over a decade. He knew of her passions, he knew of her dedication to her children, and he played the game with her, going along and being supportive. Secretly dating Mia's daughter, taking nude photos of her, and then lying when caught - what about this is complex or hard to understand? Woody lives in NYC, home to eight million people. He has money, position, and the ability to date (or hire!) escorts of any age, beyond 18. Whatever the reasons, he chose instead to look for a date in his step-daughter's bedroom. Are we supposed to believe that what drew them together was that they both had an appreciation for Groucho and Jazz? Was he guiding her on reading great literature? Did they take a course on Yeats together? NO! It was sex. (see NUDE photos!) I don't know about the rest of you, but that sounds like he had all the intelligence of a knat, and a feeling of ZERO RESPONSIBILITY, to anyone but himself and his penis.
That being said, Woody may be an intelligent film-maker, but it doesn't mean he has better judgement than any other man who follows the direction or his erection. (and if a rap lyric comes out of that last line, I want royalties!)

Why does anyone make movies with this pedophile freak?

The bottom line is that long after the petty, bourgeois critics on this blog and elsewhere are dead, forgotten and turning to dust Woody Allen will be remembered and celebrated as a great artist.

Clint Eastwood has hired more minorities to act in his films than Woody.

Speaking of Clint Eastwood, he's nearly 40 years older than HIS current wife!

The girl was 22 when the news of thier sordid relationship broke she was much younger when it started.

But I've read that the old perverted narcisist has eye for scarlet johanssen so yi-previn could be out pretty soon.

Don't despair Woody, I personally know of two people that ran out and bought Groucho noses after seeing your movie!

Well, Woody is being modest in spite of protestations to the contrary. He certainly had an influence on Mia Farrow, even if she would have preferred otherwise.

And Woody has probably had an immeasurable impact on child molesters and porn trends everywhere. Too bad that didn't come to mind when he was asked about his impact.

Actually, he's one of the greats. I don't find his films anything more than one joke after another (mostly) -- and for that I thank him. Sure, he appears to be flawed -- maybe, seriously flawed. That doesn't get in my way with him, and I do acknowledge that if the claims are true about him, he is one sick dude.

Has he influenced anyone with his work? I would say, yes, but it's hard to point to anyone because his work grew from its initial comedy. In a sense his movies are anti-movies because they are greatly influence by dialogue -- and not just the dialogue between the actors in the story -- it's his own brand of artistic, paranoid, voyeurism. That can not be copied. It is Allen, and for the most part, he is funny and brilliant. I will miss him when he's gone. If he is sick, may God forgive him and bring peace to anyone he harmed.

I would think that in the movie business, the biggest influence Woody has had is on actors. Perhaps that translates to his contribution to the idea that "Yes, dialogue counts!". When I see actresses like Scarlett Johansson come to the flame, I can only conclude that the flame is still burning brightly.

Woodman; come on, think of all those who you convinced to abandon the clarinet..?

That's gotta count for something..?

Woody is way too smart to not realize he's a great writer/director and not a great musician. The clarinet has always been nothing more than a hobby for him.

"Love and Death" is easily one of the 10 funniest films ever made! Literally a laugh, and I mean a good hearty laugh, every minute of it's running time!

I love his films. What is so astonishing to me is the diversity of approach and subject matter of his work. Every new film is a surprise.
My very favorite, though, is Radio Days for it's gentle, loving and very funny portrait of America in the forties.
I wish Woody Allen a long and happy life with many more projects to charm and entertain us.

I've always loved Woody Allen films. My first sense of New York was through Woody Allen's perspective while growing up. I believe this influenced me to later move to New York.

His relationship with Soon-yi is none of our goddamn business. Although, it seems to be lasting longer than his other relationships. I say this, but I dig Mia Farrow too, and know she must still be bothered a bit. I guess, Korean girls are hard to resist.

"Sweet and Lowdown" was great! Woody's whiny personal life, not so interesting.

I think the most off-putting aspect of Woody Allen's movies (for me) is his increasingly ludicrous portrayal of himself as an object of female desire.

Annie Hall: still believable, Hannah and Her Sisters: pushing the limit.

Woody Allen being a love object for the likes of Mira Sorvino or Scarlett Johannsen?

That's just embarrassing.

My point? If he wants to insert himself and his whiny neuroses and wish-fulfillment into his movies, we get to remember the parts he wishes we didn't.

This is exactly what I've been trying to say!
In one film, he had sex with Julia Roberts and she kept telling him he was the greatest lover she's ever had! She kept saying what an "incredible" sexual experience it was with old, worn-out Woody!!
It was truly pathetic.
In Woody's mind, perhaps he believes that he's still sexually attractive to young women.
In real life, he seems to hate women. Diane Keaton said in an interview that he always told her she was "stupid" and untalented.
