Ben Stein: Craig Was Set Up By "Out Of Control," "Evil-Minded" Police

CBS:

The whole story of Senator Larry Craig, the Republican of Idaho who announced his resignation yesterday, is a nightmare of out-of-control police and weak politicians.

Senator Craig has been the innocent victim of a set-up by the evil-minded police of Minneapolis-St. Paul that Stalin would have admired.

For itchy, red eyes, Ben Stein needs to get some Clear Eyes...and stop looking at the world the way Nixon would.

to tap or not to tap
that is the question
whether 'tis nobler in the stall
to suffer hijinks & veins varicose
or to wave arms beneath a sheet of metal
and by intent, surrender
to lie, to creep no more
for in that creep of bath
a surge may come
must give guffaws

Republican Senator Larry Craig pled guilty. If he seeks to reverse his plea then he is saying he perjured himself when he told the judge that he was guilty. Things proceed so rapidly in the public sphere that he is booted out inside of a week of his Minnesota Adventure becoming news, so efficiently that we save America Fifty Million dollars by avoiding an inquistion (Calling Ken Starr!) and Craig gets to suppress and deny the quiet desperation of his longings to the end of his days. When he declared "I am not gay" he was talking to his base: the fundies, his bread and butter. He wasn't charged with being gay (heaven forbid) so his plea is beside the point to the law, but directly to the point with the Holy Moly Holy Roller crowd.

Perhaps he just likes to take his id out for a stroll now and then, and let the piss fall where it may--pray he leaves alone that noted lavatory superhero, Tucker Carlson, the bravest man in America, lest Mr. Craig be forced to suck on tile.

Too little, too late, Ben Stein. And how convenient it is for you and Arlen Specter to speak up only after Craig resigned. If you truly believed he was unjustly treated, you--and Arlen--should've said so when this first came to light. This just a pathetic attempt at spin so the GOP can cry foul about "rogue" police in hopes that the electorate will forget about hypocritical rogque elephants.

Aww, Stein's probably a toe-tapper too.

Soliciting sex, straight or gay isn't the crime. Having sex in a public place where adults might take their children is.

Should a police officer have had to sodomize, or fellate the Senator before arresting him? I don't think so.

Nor should the Chief of Minneapolis PD have to put up with the Minneapolis airport being listed on the web as a "great place for random sex with strangers," straight or gay.

Who is Ben Stein anyway? Oh ya, a speech writer for the other worst President of all time, Richard "I am NOT a Crook" Nixon! And aren't stalwart extremist right wing hacks like Ben all about law and order? Apparently not, if it involves one of his own. If that happens, then all of a sudden the entire Minneapolis/St. Paul police department is evil and Stalinist...to a man and woman. They're all out to get the Republicans, lying in wait in bathroom stalls and public places where Republicans innocently solicit for good, clean, family values sex. Pure paranoid schizophrenia there Benji. Pure political bull-shit with one thing in mind, to try to limit the political damage. Typical.

And the only people who care whether Craig is gay or not, are Republican homophobes like Craig himself! They're the one's who threw him in front of the bus.

And might I point out, there is one major difference between Barney Franks and Larry Craig...Franks is openly gay, while Larry Craig is a homophobic self-loathing closeted gay man...aka a Republican. So, Bennie, don't compare the two, when you know as well as anyone else that there is no comparison there...one man is honest, the other is a liar, a lot like you.

Why don't you take your miserable cynicism and crawl back into the hole you came out of Benobo...it's where you belong.

Is Ben Stein speaking from experience? Has he been doing the toe-tap in the Minneapolis Airport men's room?

Ben Stein once again proves he is a complete idiot.

A 62 yr old retarded Repugnican Senator gets caught with his pants down in the only bathroom at the airport known to get this 'action', then pleads guilty and resigns the only job anyone in their right mind would hire him for, and Stein suggests that the world is evil?

Who cares what he says anyway? Because he can remember a lot of useless information?

Pajeff3-- Weighing in with all the weight of a featherduster.

Thanks Pajeff but there is no "overturning" of a guilty plea. How's that for a legal perspective? The law says that if the accused "concedes factual issues relating to his guilt, there is no substantial basis in law to overturn his plea." He even signed a form that said he understood what he was singing and that he was foregoing his ability to change his plea at a later date.

So Pajeff-Ironsides, thanks for the free legal advice-- I'm sure we'll all be "watching as Craig's convictoin [which is actually his plea] gets overturned." Personally I can't wait to hear Craig on the stand asked if he actually went to the bathroom and whether it was #1 or #2 and if it was #1 why was he sitting down and if it was #2 why he never flushed the toilet.

(former republican presidential speech writer) Ben Stein sure had a lot to say when President Clinton had consensual sex, but completely dismissed the idea that the repugs had encouraged Ms. Lewinsky, and didn't call the people who went after HIM 'evil minded', did he?

More of the usual mindless hypocrisy we get from the right wing.

Ben Stein making bathrooms safe for older, closeted executives.

You tell them (has) Ben. Until an older closeted queen like Craig can solicit in the public restrooms of America without fear of police state tactics like sending an undercover "Tucker Carlson" type cop in to make his day less bright, well this just isn't the America you grew up in in the 50's, or is it??

Didn't ben stein used to have a segment called *win ben stein's money* or something based on the premise that he was smarter than the average person?

Pay up doofus, you aren't even smarter than a fifth grader.
