Financial Times:

The Pentagon acknowledged shutting down part of a computer system serving the office of Robert Gates, defence secretary, but declined to say who it believed was behind the attack.

Current and former officials have told the Financial Times an internal investigation has revealed that the incursion came from the People's Liberation Army.

Keep on buying cheap crap made in Communist China from Wal-mart folks. It gives the Chinese army lots of money to buy guns, missles and hackers.

Screaming inflammatory headlines, are not becoming of a credible media. Sadly, it appears that the only way to convey, any message, it to present twisted facts, that are not verified. Where is the proof, that the Chinese did this? Is the Financial Times your "horse's mouth", or horse's rear end? Please give your readers some credit. Do not present us with "lies" or unsubstantiated spew from a Pentagon unnamed source! WE, the public, are tired of the mouthing of these spineless creeps.

so , if this is true..... is this an act of war since the attack was on our Pentagon? Seems to me China is in deep shit. Hell, its more offensive to me then any thing Iraq ever did against the United States of America

Moira Cameron enjoyed her historic first day as a member of the Tower of London guards. The end of the world will soon begin... the comet runs.

The age of cloak and dagger spying is over.
The art of espionage is now practiced in the realm of cyberspace.

The problem with this is that anyone with access to a decent computer system can enter the game.

Everybody hacks. America checke the Russians, England checks the Chinese, China checks the French, the French check the Germans and so on.

The easiest way to control hacking is to leave a window open for the hacker to enter. This serves two purposes: You know who is watching you and you can feed your hacker mis-information when necesary.

Exposes like this one are just meant to stir the controversy of the increasing China power.

What interested me was that Merkel went to the US and then on to China to discuss what??
China Product Quality and German Intelligence Hacking.

I remember French Sarkowsky went to the US and immediately went thr ough Europe talking about the bombing of Iran.

Are these leaders now taking their cue from Washington.?? The problem with that is that when misinformation is fed through the internet and hacked , Washington or Beijing can easily use it to convince their "allies" that there is some imminent threat to security.
And that is the danger of this hacking , scanning and probing without more dialogue.

"Are these leaders now taking their cue from Washington?"

Sarkozy and Merkel are both Bush lapdogs. It's sad that after Britain and Italy finally recovered their sanity by ditching Blair and Berlusconi, France and Germany (the EU's largest countries) fell prey to the neocons...

Why is it our military can be hacked AT ALL? Do they think this is an organization you can support with winders alone? YOU WOULD THINK the Pentagon would use something a little more bullet proof, but then they designed and approved the HUM-V. Nice.

If they can't protect themselves, then WTF?

Sad....

Ugh.

I'm no computer expert, but wouldn't you think that they could use some type of closed-circuit system? Why isn't that possible

Wait a sec...

I thought we had the best computing outsourcing services money could buy?

And the Chinese (not the Russians) hack in?

And you want the PENTAGON and the COMMANDER GUY with their fingers on the football?

The attack is a great cause of concern. After all, the Pentagon is ... is...a well beyond the torture and the looting of the Treasury thay are...you know..ahhmmm.... they want the best for Amerr...ahem...something about patriots...ah.. well they are bible loving christians, I guess...they like files, files on lots of people...and robotic killing machines...yes...good people all..

What's that song about generals and majors...they seem so unhappy...unless they got a war?

Well, at least the N. Koreans and the Americans are friends again. Take that Chairman Mao!
10:31 PM on 09/03/2007
Proof it was really the PLA responsible for the attack is zero, nada, zilch, but then again most Americans will buy it anyway. After all, isn't anyone who's remotely critical of the US government a member of Al Qaeda? ;)

There is nothing funny about this.

Cyber Security should arguably be our highest priority. I would argue that most of the money that was allocated after 911 should have gone to not only beefing up the protection of the vital government computer systems, but creating a branch of the military devoted to offensive technology. This, of course is why it takes visionary elected officials capable of anticipating what new threats we face.

China is the biggest threat facing the western world. This admin has had the wrong priorities from day one, and we will pay the price. Iraq was a folly that we could not afford because it weakened us, and took our attention away from the real problem.
