Couric On Iraq Trip: "There's Going To Be Criticism If I Wear A White Blouse."

Washington Post:

Katie Couric knew she would have high-level access during her trip to Iraq, but it wasn't until yesterday morning that she discovered just how far that would extend.

At 10:30 a.m. Iraqi time, a general called CBS's Baghdad bureau chief to say that the CBS anchor should go to a nearby heliport to be taken to an undisclosed location for an important interview. It was only after Couric and her executive producer, Rick Kaplan, boarded the military chopper and were flown to Anbar province did they realize they would be seeing President Bush, who was making a surprise stopover in Iraq en route to Australia.

I posted this comment earlier. Clearly, I should have waited for this article, but I just had to get this out there. I hope you will find the appropriate fora to reveal Couric for who she is : an enemy of the people.

Please, please comment on Katie Couric's "reporting" from Iraq. She just said that the people (Iraqi) want us to stay! She also said that the number of Iraqi "militia," "police," "national guard" or some other unit has "increased" to 19,000 and that "reports of violence" are "down" from like "14,000" to "400." The last numbers are not exact but they were that skewed! WTF, people. Who saw Bushspeak yesterday? Who believes a word that f####### says! Now, Couric says Bush "expressed his frustration" at the Maliki government. Gimme a break. This, I hope, is the reason nobody watches her. I never liked her, but this just confirms it.

Now, Lou Dibbs has Faoud Ajami on CNN. It is my understanding that Ajami (Adjami?) is paid for his opinion. The only problem is he doesn't tell us whose paying. From what he said--the GAO account is wrong, he thinks they were too harsh, too critical of the Iraqis, I believed he said a couple times he was Iraqi, I think he said that he was different from Lou because Faoud wants to succeed--I think the White House and Bush's "pals" paid him for this one. Oh yeah, Lou didn't have one critical word. Not a single raised eyebrow! Not one stab at toppling Faoud's house of cards. Not one! As the homepage says: this war ain't over. Not by a long shot. It also looks like they really are going to take on Iran any day now.

Fox proves you can fool people all the time.

Can you tell me what has happened to Lou Dobbs recently? I thought he was one of the good guys, kind of independent, issue-oriented rather than doctrinaire. He seems to be auditioning for a gig on Fox lately.

Couric reveals her lack of knowledge when she says, "General Petraeus is a straight-shooter."
As Paul Krugman pointed out yesterday in the New York Times: "And General Petraeus's history also suggests that he is much more of a political, and indeed, partisan, animal than his press would have you believe. In particular, six weeks before the 2004 presidential election, General Petraeus published an op-ed article in The Washington Post in which he claimed - wrongly, of course -that there had been 'tangible progress' in Iraq, and that 'momentum has gathered in recent months.' Is it normal for serving military officers to publish articles just before an election that clearly help an incumbent's campaign? I don't think so."

General Petraeus is not a "straight-shooter" and it's time the media stopped reporting the way they did when President Bush assured us that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Another example of how "news" is conducted.
