Nokia's marketing department did some quick thinking yesterday. They're targeting iPhone users who are angry about the fact that they paid $200 more for their phone than they would have if they waited.

They've taken out ads on Google that suggest users check out Nokia's new Mosh mobile social network. The ads, which appear for searches on "iphone price drop," say "Sorry, Early Adopters" and suggests they salvage their iPhone experience by checking out Mosh.

I know a person who's still got an Apple Newton. Still uses it, as far as I know. (He may as well...)

Let's be realistic: this iPhone thing isn't a phone; it's a hand-held Macintosh. And it does not yet have some of the peripherals that you can soon expect will be in such a little box, let us say by Christmas. It surely can't be too long before laptop Macs come out that sport a touch-sensitive screen. (No, I don't have an inside track... just speculating.)

In the long run it is far better to realize that you made a pricing/model mistake, and to correct that mistake, and to "take your McGuffin for it," than to continue to live with that mistake and give your competitors more time. What HAS been clearly established is that there is a market for a versatile hand-held computer that is not "hobbled."

Why would shareholders be angry about a price drop that will make this item more affordable and allow Apple to increase the sales volume for this iphone? More units sold = more profit.

Buyers who overpaid? Were they unaware that early adopters are always gouged? Get real.

Steve Jobs might want to watch burning the folks who are the main drive for his products...the guys waiting outside stores to be the first to buy.

I can understand several months, but that product just came out, and he's already slammed buyers with a significant loss in value, as if these electronic gadgets weren't already worthless soon enough.

Anyone who waited in line for the iPhone (or any device for that matter) deserved to get burned the second they stood in line. Plenty of smarter people chose not to wait in line and still got their iPhone on day one. Others waited or are still waiting for their current contracts to expire before buying an iPhone. And still others waited for a price drop. Granted, this is a steeper cut than anyone expected, but I can't argue against rewarding those who show patience and intelligence.
