When is some information too much information?

In an interview with Glamour magazine, Michelle Obama reveals that her husband, Barack, is so "snore-y and stinky" when he wakes up in the morning that their daughters won't crawl into bed with him.

The interview, in the magazine's October issue, was conducted by Tonya Lewis Lee, who is married to Spike Lee, the filmmaker.

Referring to their daughters, Mrs. Obama says: "We have this ritual in the morning. They come in my bed, and Dad isn't there -- because he's too snore-y and stinky, they don't want to ever get into bed with him. But we cuddle up and we talk about everything from what is a period to the big topic of when we get a dog: what kind?"

Their personas express their reality enough. I'm married too- we all know the 'boy' smells very well. Frankly I prefer not to hear his thoughts on the girl 'smells' either. Beside hygiene- much is related to biology and hormones. Nothing newsworthy.

The insights provided by Michelle are indeed enlightening, but it left me wondering about whether she stinks in the morning as well.

Aw, I think it's quite endearing. There are some of us who tell too much, it's part of who we are, open and honest about our lives. I just see her like that and it makes her more likable and human to me.

I would probably say the same things, not to disrespect, I just tend to overshare, it's just a habit and there are those of us who don't. It's our nature or it's not. People make too much of a big deal about this and it's always damned if you do, damned if you don't.

what is the big deal over this. My father was on the road 5 days a week. he was home on the weekend. when he came home on friday nights, usually very late, he would just sleep on the fold out so as not to disturb my mother.
From what I've heard, senators are in the capital about the same.
So, what is the big deal?

I'm not that thrilled to hear Michelle make her husband sound soooo human. I think some of these teasing should be left to family and friends and she should remember that whatever put down she makes(even in teasing) will all likely be used against him. (Such like Tucker Carlson and Maureen Dowd)
I like them both, and I see she's tying to make him human, but I think those personal shortcomings should be kept out of the campaign.
I hope she stops! AND just highlight his strengths and not give his opponents any material to personally humiliate him.

I think the article was written in a delibrate manner to make Obama and his wife's comments come out in a less-then-favourable light - like HD TV that distorts a pleasant countenance to one that looks blemished - but isn't. It's almost snarky - like the author is a bit bitter that they are getting their info from a second-hand source - an article in glamour. It will be interesting to compare the tone of the two works.

I agree with Mrs. Obama point here: "People have notions of what a wife’s role should be in this process, and it’s been a traditional one of blind adoration." This let's me know that when Barack is sworn in, Mrs. Obama will be faithful to the template of FIRST LADY leadership pioneered by Eleanor Roosevelt.

I believe that one of the Obama target groups is families like themselves in the mid30's to mid40's who have similar growing families. Mrs. Rose Kennedy helped her son Jack in his presidential bid by having 'teas' where she would appeal to women voters by identifying herself as a mother and family administrator. I'm sure Mrs. Obama is playing a similar role in relating to a group of potential voters and expressing her opinions on raising a family.
