President Bush is expected to choose a replacement for Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales by the middle of next week, and former solicitor general Theodore B. Olson has emerged as one of the leading contenders for the job, according to sources inside and outside the government who are familiar with White House deliberations.

Other candidates still in the running include former deputy attorney general George J. Terwilliger III and D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Laurence H. Silberman, according to the sources, who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the discussions.

Dumbya may just nominate Harriet Myers for the AG post. Her qualification: "She's a God-fearing woman". That's good enough for Junior.

I hope that the Democrats hold out and do not accept ANY nominee until after they receive ALL REQUESTED DOCUMENTATION regarding the "Attorney General Scandal" and the "Valerie Plame attrocity," and any other "OUTRAGE" STILL OUTSTANDING!

Lanny Davis likes Olson. It figures. Lanny Davis IMHO should be drummed out of the Democratic Party along with James Carville.

Wasn't Silberman one of those reichwingnuts who removed the guy they'd first appointed as Special Prosecutor to go after Clinton. That first appointee decided there wasn't enough evidence, so this Silberman removed him and put Ken Starr in. You know the rest...

Olson would probably be the worst possible choice, being the guy who argued Bush's case before the Supremes in 2000. His nomination would be a slap in the face, not only to the Dems, but Hillary as well.

Bush has filled up almost every important post with enough partisan hacks. This time, I hope Leahy holds the line, no matter what kind of pressure he thinks he's under from the MSM to "play nice".

From Wikipedia:

Olson was part of the Arkansas Project which aimed to damage and end the presidency of Bill Clinton during the 1990s. He was confirmed as Solicitor General after majority Republicans refused Senator Leahy's call for committee inquiries on Olsen's Arkansas Project involvement.

Having read most of the comments, this guy Olsen is not my choice, he already is biased against the Democratic party, how the hell can he be fair in the judicial goverment. Another one of Bush's foulups if this happens.

Ted is the perfect example of divorce, neocon style.
First, he books a flight for his wife on a 9-11 flight,
then he tells her to sit quietly, to pray and not fight.

During the 90's Ted Olsen wrote numerous hit pieces for Conservative publications attacking President Clinton. While he has every right to state his opinions, what bothers me is that he didn't have the courage to use his real name and hid behind an alias. He is a gutless coward and has no business in any government position.
