Most Americans Doubt Petraeus Will Give True Picture of Situation in Iraq

Washington Post:

Most Americans think this week's report from Gen. David H. Petraeus will exaggerate progress in Iraq, and few expect it to result in a major shift in President Bush's policy. But despite skepticism about the Petraeus testimony and majority support for a U.S. troop reduction in Iraq, there has also been a slight increase in the number who see the situation there as improving.

The findings, from a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, underscore the depth of public antipathy toward the Iraq war, doubts about the administration's policies and limited confidence in the Iraqi government to meet its commitments to restore civil order.

Whats happening now, is exactly what we on Huffpost said would happen, when the WEAK ASS DEMS gave this lying bastard funding to extend this crap. bush has proven over and over and over and over and over and over and over...... again that he is a freaking liar.

Don't tell me, you weak ass dem you expected anything other then more lies from these murderers. Now you dems are complicit. JUST HOW MANY MORE OF OUR TROOPS DIED. HOW MANY MORE IRAGIS DIED. YOU WEAK ASS MOTHERFUCKERS.

The part that really show the criminality of it all, is the fact that our troops are on their 2nd 3rd,4th and sometime 5th extended tours of duty.

I think its a crime. All the talking heads changing the augument from withdrawing immediately to "drawdowns" is a form of treason. Especially, when they all know, the same troops have been fighting this war, (invasion) for 4.5 years. Now they want them to carry the full load, for who knows how many more years. Watch out, it could be going on if there is a draft and your kids have to fight and die.

None of them could give a dam about the troops. Not even the fools who think we should stay longer or who are only talking about "drawdowns, we are winning, and staying longer".

At the same time that 33% who support the war and are bushes suckers, want enlist. What cowardly pitiful fools.

Now here this: The lies keep on coming... the real target is not Iran...oh yes we will bomb bomb bomb Iran, but it is China....nukes flown to Louisiana means if China reacts to the mad hatter in the Black House boom.

There’s a fable from some time ago that speaks of a scorpion and a fox that meet at the riverside. The scorpion asks the fox for a ride across the river, the fox refuses stating that the scorpion will sting the fox and kill him. The scorpion responds, saying that if he stings the fox while crossing, they will both surely die. The fox agrees and lets the scorpion crawl onto his back. Halfway across the river, the scorpion stings the fox. As they are both drowning the fox asks why the scorpion stung him, the scorpion responds, “I’m a scorpion, it’s in my nature.â€

We're going to find out if Petraeus can swim with venom in his veins.

Iraq is but one part of the War on Terror! Our President claims the US will hunt down terrorists and kill them...hmmm!!Let's see we have Terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, England, Algiers, Somalia, Eritrea, all over Africa is seems, Darfur, Guatemala, Spain, Gaza, Philippines, Israel and so on and on. It appears is this day and age there are terrorists and terrorism all over the World and they are not going away anytime soon. It should be no surprise to anyone that Gen. Petreus's report will be positive however, the very fact that he must come before Congress to defend this War and sanction the further killings of US soldiers and Iraqi civilians is ludicrous. Our Congress is in a sad state when they must rely on the information given them by one whose loyalty lies with his commander in chief. Bringing Gen. Petraeus before Congress makes no sense at all. There is more than enough credible and factual information against this War for Congress to have acted...well before now!! Our Congress is weak and to divided to make the tough decisions required to scale down and end this War.

Terrroists or a gang?

This band of liars defines hypocrisy. They want 50 billion more for Iraq, and yet New Orleans goes unbulit.

The GOP - destroying America one stall at a time.

Without 67 votes in the senate, and with an all volunteer military accountable ONLY to the president, there is absolutley nothing anyone can do to stop this war.

Unless we had a draft.

I believe it will be the only way to get America involved. Until the MSM sees hundreds of thousands of people in the streets, it will ignore any protest.

The picutes aren't prime time worthy yet.

I wonder - in the age of "everyone has a DV cam" why was there MORE coverage in Vietnam - when they had to film and then develop the film! - and then ship it to news outlets.

There was no YouTube in 1968. What's the deal with that?

As Sen. Biden said, unless the Democrats have 67 votes in the Senate to override Bush's vetoes, they will never be able to end the war. It is ultimately up to senate Republicans then to withdraw their support for the war and the American voters to elect enough anti-war senators (which they failed to do in 2006) to change the course of the war, neither of which will happen before 2008. That's the reality.

there is more than one way to go about this, actually.

while it is true there is no veto-proof majority in the Senate for the left, the same was true of the right when Gingrich led the charge to simply shut the government down by refusing to pass *any* funding for *anything* until they got some blood out of the left.

consequently, the congress was shut down while they squabbled over the budget.

the dems could do the same thing this time, but it would be considered tantamount to political suicide.

there are a few key differences though in that this time around the majority of the country from both sides supports ending the war and if that message could be made to stay front and center, it might be effective. when the right wingers did it for their own agenda, they did not enjoy the popular support the issue of ending the war has.

who knows, perhaps just the threat of such a scenario might be enough to bring a sufficient number of recalcitrant republican senators to heel enough to consider the de-funding of the war, and eventually the possibility of impeachment.

it would be a shame to have to resort to such tactics just to accomplish doing the right thing, but i am coming to the conclusion that desperate times call for desperate measures.

First, while the majority of the citizens want to end the war (I am one of them), they don't support the cutting and running that the left proposes.

Every serious politician who has been to Iraq comes back with theinescapable opinion that a precipitous troop withdrawal would lead to a major humanitarian crisis.
05:05 PM on 09/09/2007
"the Democrats have 67 votes in the Senate to override Bush's vetoes, they will never be able to end the war."

Are you gullible enough to believe this?

If so, watch '08 IF/when dems sweep.

What's the excuse then? Let's copy these posts and save them.

IF Dems held an overwhelming majority since '06, the difference would be, what?

Out of Iraq? The Big 3 impeached? DOMESTIC 'syping'?

Anything else worth shit that would be different?

Extremely doubtful.

Dream on.

Bill Maher recently made a comment that goes something like this:

Republicans say government is a bad thing so that when they screw up doing the work of government, they can say, "See?"

Can't we let the General give his report FIRST before discrediting him?

No. Because we know what the fucking General is going to say. We also know what he's not going to say. He is not going to say, "Ladies and Gentlemen: I fucked up. I knew it would be a fuckup going in. Now, please get me fired."

hume,

do you honestly think that this administration has done anything in iraq based on the assessment of their military experts? really and truly?

i don't.

it's why i can't get too fired up about this. i'm just kinda sad to see one more person led to slaughter in this disaster.

the real problem as we both know, is higher up than petraeus.
