AP:

Oprah Winfrey was rolling out the red carpet Saturday for Barack Obama and the high-wattage stars invited to a gala "celebration" expected to raise $3 million for the Democratic presidential candidate.

The most powerful woman in show business was set to celebrate her favorite candidate at her palatial estate in this coastal enclave south of Santa Barbara. Tickets to the sold-out private event went for $2,300 apiece, keeping them within campaign finance limits. Stevie Wonder was scheduled to perform for the guests, who were expected to include actors Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and Halle Berry. By late afternoon other guests, including actors Linda Evans and Dennis Haysbert and TV director Paris Barclay, had arrived.

He's not as nearly "wet"...as your fact-less claims that he has no real experience. He has more political office experience than Hillary or Edwards combined. Check their resumes, position for position, and it's not even close. Both Ed and Hill are partially responsible for the debacle in Iraq. Yea, great display of judgement. And there were several Dem senators who had the same intel, yet decided to do the common-sense, humane thing and vote NO...Logic-challenged, and/or biased folks won't vote Barack regardless of his policy positions; past successes or examples of superior judgement. And that's ok; I'm hopeful that there are enough fair-minded people to carry him through both the primary, and GE...

Money given to B.O. is money wasted.
End of story.

OPRAH JUST LOST HER GLITTER. I shouldn't be surprised that this TV icon, a black woman, who never endorsed any other political candidates for President should suddenly do so. It's proof positive of the subject blacks don't want to talk about, black racism--endorsing a candidate who is black when she knows as well as we do that he is wet behind the ears. He has no real experience especially in foreign affairs. I hope the women who watch her show are smarter than she gives them credit for. Obama has no chance to win in a general election. Don't waste your vote and give the Republicans another lease on the White House.

Hillary is the Dems best shot, especially with Bill working with her.

Obama is no longer a choice. He has turned out to be a whimp.

If his wife or Oprah ran, I would vote for either of them.

His wife is one no-nonsense, strong woman. She is a force to be reckoned with. I like her. I like the fact that she runs that family and he has little to say about it. She is a good mother and a great wife. She is brilliant. I love to hear her speak.

Oprah has done so many good things for people around the world. She has helped many women through he show. She is caring. She cares about our party, the poor, seniors, healthcare, and justice. She embraces ALL people. She is spiritual. I wish she could just take Obama's candidacy and let him run for her V.P.

I'm disappointed that Oprah would support Obama. Along with Edwards and Clinton, he said, "All options are on the table" to use against innocent Iranians. When I heard he said that, I threw him out with all the rest of the trash.

TO ALL THE HATERS OUT THERE, ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT YOU ARE JUST JEALOUS THAT OPRAH IS NOT SUPPORTING YOUR REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE!!!!

OPRAH RULES..

I LOVED HER IN "The Color Purple" OMG That was such a great movie...

You are putting spin on this issue.

I am a Proud Liberal Democrat. Obama has some good ideas but they never get enough coverage.

His message is lost behind Oprah's endorsement and his wife's powerful presence.

I am not voting for his wife or Oprah. I am voting for a candidate. Obama has lost his charism behind the screen these two women have created.

He comes across as message-less, whimpy, and needs women to speak for him. Not a good presidential image.

Say, will the big O be subjected to the McCain-Feingold restrictions that the rest of us po' folk will be leading up to the election, or have we've abdicated the election process to horse faces?

I donot give a shit about what Oprah thinks!
If Obama comes accross with the beef on Iraq, Social Security, medical Coverage, health care,
Darfur Action against the Sudanese Government,
Jobs, a better drug coverage plan, then he can get my vote if note as far as I'm conserned he is just another empty suit!

oprah made her choose, and that's her right [ whats the difference between her endorsement and a newspaper, i don't see any!]. and if people want to follow either, that's their right also. but you never really know what happens when that curtain is closed on the voting booth. and now with computers, not many people are sure themselves what the truth is! go and vote, keep your fingers crossed, at least this time there'll be a change !!!!!

So a black man is trying to steel the women's vote from a woman. Mean while three more American Soldiers die today.

Obama, have some respect!

Oprah, we love you no matter what you do!

You can endorse him, but you out-shine everyone around you! Everyone sees you...no one sees Obama any more.

Why didn't you endorse him earlier? I don't get it.

Don't even think about becoming VP, Oprah. Stick to TV..... you do what you do, well.
10:50 PM on 09/09/2007
Yes, obey Oprah....

Now bark!

Obama has good ideas, I don't think that he is decisive enough or assetive enough.

He comes across as too whimpy when he let's other people do his talking for him. How sad.

Opraha dn his wife out shine him and up stage him. They are the divas and he is a member of the chorus.

Buye, Obama.
06:39 PM on 09/09/2007
bye, Obama.

You are being just illogical and trollish, comeon. Why is Hillary even a Democrat? She is a corporatist, who until 5 minutes ago was on the war wagon with Lieberman.

Hillary is going to lose because its all about THE WAR and THE NAFTA.
07:09 AM on 09/10/2007
I am not saying that I like Hillary or Edwards 100%.

They do speak for themselves.

Obama has lost me on this. I liked Obama from the start but he has lost all of his shine. He has not succeeded in being seen or heard. He will never get his message out hiding behind his wife and Oprah.

I don't see how he can come back from this huge mistake.

This $3 million raised at the Party will only buy two commercial spots (maybe 3) on any major network.
Will Oprah be able to deduct this as a business expense on her taxes, as well as claim a deduction for a campaign contribution?

Oh sorry... She probably doesnt pay ANY taxes thanks to the current administration's efforts.
