Huffington Post:

With the MTV Video Music Awards in town, Sin City took its debauchery and extravagance to a whole new level. The awards, featuring a much-hyped opening number by Britney Spears, are set to air live Sunday from the Palms hotel.

The unpredictable pop star was the talk of the weekend. People bragged about Britney sightings, buzzed about what events she would attend and offered opinions on her chances for a comeback.

It is upsetting to read this account of spoiled, pampered, rich entertainers---upsetting because it says something about us as a nation. America, presently situated at the height of its imperial overreach, is nevertheless quickly becoming irrelevant in the world. I think the process of our decline actually began about 100 years ago and is concomitant with the rise of a monetary system based on a fractional reserve central banking establishment accountable to no one and which politicians must use to fund their cockamie statist projects, with war ranking as the cockamiest project of them all, and we seem to have had wars aplenty to go around in the last 100 years. My intuition tells me that when the monetary system becomes so dishonest, as it is under an unbacked, manipulated fiat paper currency, this fundamental dishonesty seeps down into every facet of a nation's life. It's just a deep gut level feeling I have that we are being fucked over by a gilded financial elite (notice I did not say a business elite) and have lost our way, not because of capitalism or the free market, but because of a pseudo-capitalism (fascist corporatism) and a pseudo-free market. When money is allowed to be created by a banking establishment solely through debt instruments, the people become slaves at some level, living lives of servitude, as Jefferson warned, "on the continent which their forefathers conquered". This may seem to be a little far-fetched for a post on out of control entertainers, but I will stand by my intuition that a people that produces such self-indulgent artists is floundering at a very deep level. Cui bono?

Fans of debuchery also need a place to play, why should they be deprived?

Who says we do not have our priorities straight?
That the pay scales are out of whack just because a so-called rapper with a 5th grade education espousing violence and the degradation of women makes millions and a teacher or fireman or cop makes barely enough to get by?

P.S. Someone tell Britney she can retrieve her underwear from the 711 store where she was parked the other night.

I'm Danish. Way too ashamed and disgusted to want to admit being a citizen of the United State of Amerika.

What I STILL cannot understand is why the hell GIFTING SUITES are a part of wealthy stars routine.

Exactly WHY do companies GIVE expensives gifts to stars who have MORE than enough money to buy them themselves?

I have never understood that little bit of pure extravagance. A lot of stars have the items immediately resold for the cash which only makes suckers out of the companies giving this stuff away.

"Gifting" Suites are one of those things that make me feel that kids downloading songs at no charge are hardly in the wrong. When stars are given thousands of dollars of free gifts they got no place to complain about kids downloading their music.

As for me, I wouldn't walk across the street to see just about any of the current crop of music "Stars". Little or no talent and mostly pure hype.

Has anyone cared about the VMAs since 1990?

No? Didn't think so.

Remember kids, don't download music so the hard working artists and record companies can have the money to do this.
