Dem Panel Leaders: Petraeus, Crocker Are 'Good People Shackled To A Bad Policy'

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

New York Times:

Democratic leaders on the panels described the general and the envoy as good people shackled to a bad policy, while Republicans said General Petraeus in particular had been subjected to insulting and unfair criticism by people unwilling to even hear his testimony before rushing to judgment.

"He's the right person, three years too late and 250,000 troops short," Mr. Skelton said of the general and the general's predicament, as he sees it.

Bush is stuck with failure in Iraq.

He made the wrong decision to invade and occupy. Now he has no plan for withdrawal now that falure is inevitable.

His most recent goal (in a long line of changing goals) is to provide Iraq with their own military able to take our place and a Democratic government.

After 5 years, the Iraqi military STIILL is not ready. This is the longest bootcamp exercise in history.

Bush has decided that the Iraqis are not prepared to govern themselves.

As a result of our presence, al Qaeda started operation in Iraq in 2005. It was not there before we invaded.

However, Petraes said that the surge worked so well that he sees the U.S. troops still occupying Iraq 5-10 years from now.

Be Tray Us will join the sorry depths first entered by Colin Powell when he surrendered his last shred of credibility to support the lies of a mean, cowardly chickenhawk whose Daddy engineered a sweetheart deal to keep his son out of harm's way during the Vietnam War.

Today is 9/11/07.

Everything that the Regime does, says or implements is scripted. Every attempt was made to delay the Petraeus report a day before the sixth anniversary.

Today, proof is there. There is no two-party system. There is one right wing regime with a centrist debating society tolerated so long as it supports the regime.

The word liberal itself has become a vulgarity based on the Catholic theological version of a mortal sin to BE one, let alone to utter the word itself.

MoveOn.org and other organisations telling the sheeple that their nation is now part of an international corporatist cabal must be silenced. Their Corporate Media has been ordered to do so.

Cafferty on King said that CNN "never tells him what to say." I agree for he knows what they will not tolerate. They want no light drawn on the real nature of businesses that the corporate media owners have....WMD.

The only time that they forced him to apologise was a warning. He called Rumsfeld a war criminal. This is a concise statement, but not good for the businesses that sell to the DOD.

I love Olbermann. Petraeus will withdraw 30,000 troops after he adds 30,000 troops.
This is phony discount we will soon see in stores at Christmas. You raise the price of a pair of shoes from $75 to $100 and then have a 25 percent off sale and convince the stupider people they got a bargain. They are still paying $75 for the shoes , but it is a sale.

Withdraw now. Withdraw for real.

The show was great wasn't it. The long awaited bullshit report never really came. Bush went to Iraq to twist the general's arm and let everyone know he's the decider...without battle experience He arrogantly thinks he and he alone will keep this war going. Screw everyone else. The gutless Congress has to step into him now. Make him come around and shut off the money. SHUT OFF THE MONEY NOW CONGRESS AND ACEDE TO THE WISHES OF THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE. SHUT OFF THE MONEY, impeach cheney.

I wasn't going to vote for Clinton, but now I seem to have changed my mind. It must be from constantly reading her name on all the Huffington Post threads.

My mind is now set in stone.

Let's be adults about this. These so called "tribal sheiks" in Al Anbar are people who were attacking and killing American soldiers 6 months ago. They were given money, munitions, and amnesty to stop killing Americans. I believe our Saudi friends arranged this.

General Petraeus' great achievment in Iraq is that he gave amnesty to and negotiated with elements of Al Qaida, in order to give George Bush his political cover.

It's a crying shame.

George W Bush = Failure

Spot on Ping. That is exactly what happened and what is happening.

The United States built a fortress embassy in Iraq and fortresses throughout the oil regions.

The United States will be in Iraq for the next few decades or more.

General Petraeus gave a masterful presentation to Congress. He played the dissenters like a Stradivarius.

Game, Set & Match - General Petraeus. This one is over.

The occupation of Iraq will continue on into the next decade. As long as we can continue to get cheap oil at high prices, we will all be as happy as pigs in shit.

A yes, Gen, Petraeus, a student of military history. In fact he is following another generals plan from another war. See which Genersls plan, which war, and who turned Petraeus onto it. See it here:

Yes, indeed, it all looks and sounds so familiar.

neverforladyw:

It's good that you dropped that

Nader'08

crap from your posts. That's an improvement.

Yesterday, you said that you would rather vote for W than for Hillary. How about dropping that nonsense as well?

Let's see some more progress before we can sit down and talk sense.

So funny. Spamming Nanette changes the verbiage of her spam and noone will ever notice.

Once her name is seen, it is an automatic collapse and flag.

Gee. The general must have given some kind of performance today. The Libs wouldn't mind having a beer with him and the dirty 30 are enthralled. Sure. Bad Policy. Good man. PT Barnum always wins.
