An impressive 4.6 million viewers tuned into Univision's Democratic Presidential Candidate Forum last night, demonstrating that Hispanics are just as eager and invested in next year's election as any other audience. According to Nielsen Fast National Ratings, the 4.6 million viewership trumps the average reach of 4.3 million viewers set by this year's English-language debates on ABC, CNN, Fox News Channel, and MSNBC. The difference is especially stark for adults aged 25 to 54; for this middle demographic, the Univision Forum drew 49 percent more viewers than those who have watched the English-language debates thus far. Said Univision Communications Inc. CEO in a press release, "Univision is proud to ensure the Hispanic community is informed, educated, and empowered."

This what I hate, your automatically label a illegal just for being Hispanic. The problem is mainly just like immigrants in the past and today. People are trying to fight for what they can get and are willing to use anything against another person.

Back to the topic: the reason the rating are high is mostly cause word of mouth and that it wasn't on cable...note that not many have cable in America.

again should we really add the language spanish in our list of thing to fear of cause it was funny watching people get angry over a language.

Immigrants trying to steal a country of immigrants.

The Mexican conspiracy is an invention of groups like the KKK and race baiting Republicans. Like the conspiracy theories about Jews taking over the world that the same groups peddled not so long ago. Ask a Mexican picking lettuce or working on construction about his plan to 'take over America' and he won't have a clue what you are talking about. He'd probably think you are crazy. Those who are hoping to stay in the US want their kids to grow up Americans and do better then them just like every immigrant who came before them.

Every legal American should read Pat Buchanan's op/ed piece: Buenos Noches, America.

Mexicans are not trying to immigrate to the U. S., they're trying to STEAL the U. S. and everyone in the federal government is helping them do it.

Give me a break. Who would they steal it for? To you really think Mexican immigrants prefer the levels of corruption seen in the Mexican government? Do you really think they like legislators who enact a minimum wage of $4.50 a day and a labor department that doesn't enforce labor laws? If they did, they would have stayed in Mexico.

They came here to escape those conditions, not take them with them.

That is great news but how many of those viewers are legitimate votes or will be able to vote?

Enough of them so that the Republicans are going to be in for a nasty surprise in the next election.

In order to placate their redneck constituency, the Republicans are writing off the most rapidly growing voting block in the U.S.

The whole phony immigration issue has got nothing to do with security or economics that's just a smokescreen. Republicans love to appeal to racism it's been working for them since the birth of the Southern strategy.

If you want to know what it's all about listen to the guy who made the comment: "Me, I'm moving to Australia to be amongst people not ashamed of their European heritage. You can kiss my white ass."

They want to keep America white. It doesn't matter that 3rd generation Chinese, Mexican, East Indian, etc., are totally assimilated Americans -you can't be a real American unless your white to these morons. So move to Australia or New Zealand (sorry to bust your bubble but they have growing non-white populations as well). Although I'm not so sure Australia is looking for dumb rednecks they would rather have scientists and engineers from India and Asia. You have got nothing to contribute to society and need the security blanket of racism so you can feel superior.

you can't be a person to Mexicans unless you're Mexican. They have their own country that is a total mess, but they can't devote their energy to reforming that, no they have to invade America.

Mexicans protest their conditions all the time. Protestors marched by the millions in Oaxaca, Chiapas and Mexico City. But the Mexican government doesn't listen to its own citzens, it listens to wealthy multi-national corporations, many of which are based in the US, which want cheap labor and no labor law enforcement.

Mexicans can't convince their own government to reform, when their own government is being told to hold them down by our corporations.

I was in Cleveland when Kucinich was councilman and then mayor.

Believe me, you don't want him as your president. Ask anyone from Cleveland how he governed the city.

In my opinion, the United States should follow the following policies with respect to illegal immigration:

1. Close the borderS. Note the plural. We also need to stop people who enter under visitor's visas from not leaving when their visa has expired. In the case of the Mexican border, a physical fence is probably needed in the populated areas, but in sparsely and unpopulated areas a virtual fence with motion detectors and drone planes with infra red cameras, backed up by sufficient border guards, should be more cost effective.

2. Provide the illegal immigrants who are already here and have broken no laws with a path toward EARNED (not automatic) citizenship.

3. With the possible exception of migrant farm work, no more guest worker programs. If we want to let additional immigrants into the country to work, they should get green cards and the right to apply for citizenship after 5 years.

You can write all the crap you want on this forum, it still doesn't make it true.

The largest group of welfare are white people!

Here is a link to that fact, so you can be less ignorant after reading it.

DESPITE PREVAILING STEREOTYPE, WHITES NOT BLACKS, COLLECT GREATEST SHARE OF PUBLIC AID DOLLARS.
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1077/is_n2_v48/ai_12970819

So yes, we live in a welfare state, and it is White people on welfare, not Mexicans as you so furiously assert.

Also, Mexicans (since you single us out) and other people who come here to work, do just that work! they don't come here "with their hands extended"

Illegal immigrants pay taxes on everything they buy and consume. They pay income taxes, clothing, food, shelter, etc...

They do not collect most benefits because of their legal status and since they come here to work, their families stay in their country of origin...therefore their tax dollars go towards the schooling of your children, not theirs.

George Bush and the republicans in power understand this fact and that is why they like illegal immigrants.

I feel sorry for all haters. They find an easy target to scapegoat and blame for their own lack of success in life.

One more fact I want to give you to support you in discarding that ignorance that has caused you so much pain is this:

Mexicans are Americans...
America is a continent, and Mexico is in the American continent; therefore all Mexicans are Americans...so are brazilians, salvadorans, colombians...you do get it right?

ok, one more fact:
I marched in the immigration reform marches and I am a US Citizen, not an illegal alien. I bet that ruins your whole illegal immigrants marching thing huh?

Nope, just because some Mexicans are legal doesn't erase the fact that 30 million of them are illegal. If you people love Mexico so much, why don't you stay there? Spanish is the first language there. Why come into the U. S. and then complain that it isn't Mexico?

Oh, and your statement about haters and blaming scapegoats, that's exactly what Mexicans do. Your own country is a tyranny, you people haven't been able to change it, so you sneak into the U. S. and then scapegoat the U. S. as racist and unwelcoming because Americans don't want to just turn our whole country over to you.

What the hell is wrong with this picture?
I am hearing the most blatant racist, nativist, crap here.
A blogger who's handle is "The burrito assasin"? What's next someone called "chitlin lips" or "slant eyed rice eater"? What a f'n idiot! I'm a Mexican AMerican and many in my family tree can be traced back 400 years in the US, before the Mayflower left Europe. Many in my family are native american in origin, many in my Mexican AMerican family have served and died for the USA going back to the civil war. Yea, in my family there were nine of us kids, my parents loved us, one and all, and all are tax paying citizens and most are professional college educated people, who although they are bilingual and proud of thier Mexican heritage are proud citizens of this country.
Why is it that these racist idiots assume that every Mexican American is an undocumented alien or a drain on this society?
We have been here longer than anyone and helped build this country from day one, so to all you racist xenophobes with all your ignorant non funny comments I have only one thing to say to you, "kiss my Mexican Ass!" and take a look around you, you'll see the future like it or not, mensos!

One thing that is being overlooked is that we already have one state that is officially bilingual: New Mexico. The New Mexico constitution makes both English and Spanish official languages of the state.

In addition, Spanish is the official language of Puerto Rico, which is a part of the United States.

Much better story on the debate.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/09/09/AR2007090902033_pf.html

I'm flabbergasted HUFFPO even acknowledged that this debate took place, considering the last poll i read showed 75% of the country strongly objects to any plan that resembles amnesty, (ie; The Democrats strategy).

The poster above seems to want to encourage a majority hispanic population, and the third world conditions they will bring with them. He predicted by the end of the century the country will be majority hispanic. Put any one of these Democrats in charge, the current 20+ million ILLEGALS presently here wiping their collective asses with our laws, will double in the first term. So, 40M currently + 20M current illegals + 20M during Clinton's term.
80 of 300, Not Bad!

Here are some numbers to chew on, Add 40 More Million first-year immigrants to the list.

http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/SR9.cfm

It's frightening that so many igorant people fall for the whole "Irish, Italian, etc ... immigrant" trick. When they arrived, they didn't do so with their hands extended demanding government services. We currently are living in a WELFARE STATE.

The bizarre thing is that blacks and other poor legal Americans seem ambivialent to this issue. The unemployment rate will at some point spike, and many people who currently can't even fathom the situation of having to compete directly with these low-paided illegal workers wil find themselves doing just that. In fact, there are many Americans doing so currently.

Me, I'm moving to Australia to be amongst people not ashamed of their European heritage. You can kiss my white ass.

The United States and Mexico would both be better off if the current atmosphere of hostility were replaced by a spirit of cooperation. U.S. citizens of Mexican descent are in a unique position to work to change this situation.

The fundamental source of the problem is the abject poverty of a large part of the Mexican population, which forces many of them to leave their homes and try to enter the United States illgaly because that is the only hope they have to better their economic situation. How many of us could say that if we were in the same situation we would not do the same thing?

But Mexico's current policy of trying to deal with the problem by exporting its poverty is simply the wrong approach. Mexico has even more inequality than the United States, and major social reforms to reduce this is what is needed. It is unfortunate that in the last election the PAN apparently managed to steal the election from Obrador, who would have brough about some badly needed social reforms.

Oh yeah, and American businesses who just LOVE exploiting Mexican workers and paying them below minimum wage are not the least to blame...

"Oh yeah, and American businesses who just LOVE exploiting Mexican workers and paying them below minimum wage are not the least to blame..."

A large part of the blame falls on them, but the reality is that the current policy of the Mexican government is to try to export its poverty by encouraging illegal immigration to the U.S.
