Poll: Most want Iraq pullout deadline
WASHINGTON -- On the eve of critical testimony to Congress by Gen. David Petraeus, most Americans are skeptical of what he will say and support setting a timetable to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq regardless of the military situation there.

A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Friday and Saturday finds that a White House push to spotlight progress in Iraq, including President Bush's surprise stop in Anbar province last week, hasn't fundamentally changed attitudes toward the war.

Poll: Iraqis Say US Troops Not Helping

WASHINGTON -- Overwhelming numbers of Iraqis say the U.S. troop buildup has worsened security and the prospects for economic and political progress in their country, according to a poll released Monday that provides a strikingly bleak appraisal of the war.

Forty-seven percent want American forces and their coalition allies to leave the country immediately, the survey showed, 12 percent more than said so in a March poll as the troop increase was beginning. And 57 percent _ including nearly all Sunnis and half of Shiites _ said they consider attacks on coalition forces acceptable, a slight increase over the past half year.

Dems Take On Petraeus, Call For Firm Withdrawal Date

Democratic presidential hopefuls faced questions on Iraq at a debate hosted by Spanish language network Univision sunday.

A partial transcript of the exchange follows:

MODERATOR: Unfortunately, the question is for Senator Edwards. Senator Edwards, if General Petraeus has indicated that there was some success of these troops, would you still be in favor of withdrawing [from] Iraq in a few months?

MR. EDWARDS: I'm absolutely in favor of America leaving Iraq. What I'm concerned about, about the Petraeus report, is that it will be basically a sales job by the White House, that it'll be a PR document -- (applause) -- because that's what we've continually gotten from this administration, throughout the course of the war.

It is time to bring our troops home.

We cannot afford more lives.

We cannot financialy afford a prolonged occupation of Iraq.

Save it, its not going to happen. The current idiot is hell bent on handing it over to the next president. This way he can save face.

Why bother arguing anymore. The people of this nation are not represented by anyone. We're run by the rich who will do what is necessary to benefit the rich.

Republicans are only frightened little people who have given in to the terrorists.

They would sacrifice the lives of our troops just so it is easier to sleep at night.

What cowards you all are!

To use an analogy drawn from recent news, while Sen. Craig was seated on his throne in some mens room stall, and having assumed his characteristic wide stance, and while playing footsie with his neighbor in an adjacent stall, George Bush, situated in another stall, missed his target altogether and proceeded to take a hellacious crap on the floor, missing the toilet entirely. And instead of cleaning up after his own mess, decided to leave it to someone else (the Democrats) to do the dirty work.

nothing says, "God bless our troops," better than the phrase,

Bring our troops home, now!

While the GOP has been stupid, cynical, criminal and wrong about everything they've done in 7 years, they are right about withdrawing. Pity Bush played politics with this war for so long, and had to be shamed into changing his strategy in Iraq. He didn't have 6 years to dick around.

But the left is wrong-er about withdrawing. This war (for no good reason) is a stupid stupid pissing match. Withdrawing now guarantees that terrorists will see the US as a big target. And Bush helped create all the terrorists that now will swarm down on us.

Do you need further proof that the government can't do anything right? Do you really need to witness the complete inpotence of Bush homeland defense/strategy agencies, to decide withdrawing is a shitty idea?

Terorists will swarm down on us?

Boy, you Republicans have given the terrorists just what they wanted: you are frightened!

What little cowards, you Republicans are!

"Iraqi Majority Says Attacks On US Forces Acceptable"...that is also the despicable opinion of Israel.

No Democrat has ever used the tern, "Surrender."

We do not have a declaration of war. There is no surrender.

How do you win? Who is the enemy?

Withdraw, withdraw, withdraw.

Same chorus, different verse. "Withdraw, Withdraw, Withdraw". Cut and run, surrender, send up the white flag. To paraphrase Edwards, I don't care if we are winning, we got to cut and run. It took our country 10 years to become a Democracy under very farable conditions, but we expect the Iraqis to do it in less than five under horrendous conditions. The Democrats voted for the war, funded the war; they just don't have the guts or moral fiber to allow us to win. President Bush is fighting a war on two fronts. Against the terrorists and their allies, the DEmocrats.

In case you missed it rock, the MILITARY solution will not work.

Try to find out who's been saying that. It's not just the dems, idiot.

Glad I could help.

Just because you parrot someone else who told you a "military solution won't work" doesn't make it gospel. Try some history and you will see that no enity won a war by surrendering. You were probably thrown off because they put military in caps and you thought that must make it the "TRUTH"

Who are we fighting?

No Democrat has ever used the term, "Surender."

To whom would we surrender?

You don't know who we are fighting or why we are fighting, you just like a good fight....

as long as you are not putting your life on the line. Cowards.

I see that the old promise of "if they want us to leave, we will leave..." was nothing more than ANOTHER lie.

Each poll, each and every time for the last few YEARS now, has shown the Iraqi PEOPLE want us out.

Our OCCUPATION, is NOT helping the war on terror that we all want to see succeed.

Another day, another lie, another aspect of reality not paid attention to.....

Bush is a failure.

That would make Republicans, failure-followers.
