Poll: Most want Iraq pullout deadline
WASHINGTON -- On the eve of critical testimony to Congress by Gen. David Petraeus, most Americans are skeptical of what he will say and support setting a timetable to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq regardless of the military situation there.

A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Friday and Saturday finds that a White House push to spotlight progress in Iraq, including President Bush's surprise stop in Anbar province last week, hasn't fundamentally changed attitudes toward the war.

Poll: Iraqis Say US Troops Not Helping

WASHINGTON -- Overwhelming numbers of Iraqis say the U.S. troop buildup has worsened security and the prospects for economic and political progress in their country, according to a poll released Monday that provides a strikingly bleak appraisal of the war.

Forty-seven percent want American forces and their coalition allies to leave the country immediately, the survey showed, 12 percent more than said so in a March poll as the troop increase was beginning. And 57 percent _ including nearly all Sunnis and half of Shiites _ said they consider attacks on coalition forces acceptable, a slight increase over the past half year.

Dems Take On Petraeus, Call For Firm Withdrawal Date

Democratic presidential hopefuls faced questions on Iraq at a debate hosted by Spanish language network Univision sunday.

A partial transcript of the exchange follows:

MODERATOR: Unfortunately, the question is for Senator Edwards. Senator Edwards, if General Petraeus has indicated that there was some success of these troops, would you still be in favor of withdrawing [from] Iraq in a few months?

MR. EDWARDS: I'm absolutely in favor of America leaving Iraq. What I'm concerned about, about the Petraeus report, is that it will be basically a sales job by the White House, that it'll be a PR document -- (applause) -- because that's what we've continually gotten from this administration, throughout the course of the war.

You are so right lindamart60, when you say, "the anti war groups of the democratic party are ready to hold their democratic politicians to account for their confirmation vote in the affirmative."

One of the biggest reasons I'm a Young College Republican is, we don't hold our politicians accountable for anything -- ever. The one and only exception to that rule was Craig. And he needed to be tossed under the bus because he pled guilty. That's a mortal sin if you're a Republican. Never ever admit wrong doing. Blame everything on the liberals. Everything.

Airstrike kills suspect in Iraq blasts
BY: Sam Enriquez, Los Angeles Times
09/10/2007

BAGHDAD--A U.S. airstrike killed a man suspected of directing the Aug. 14 truck bombings in northern Iraq that caused the deaths of more than 400 people, the deadliest single attack since the American-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, military officials said Sunday.

The man, Abu Mohammed Afri, was a leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, U.S. officials said, and was responsible for the synchronized bombings that targeted the Yazidi religious sect, a minority that is neither Muslim nor Christian.

The bombings leveled neighborhoods of crude earthen homes and shops, burying victims and overwhelming medical facilities in Nineveh province. Hundreds of others were wounded, and hundreds of homes were destroyed.

Listening To Petraeus (Op/Ed)
BY: Sens. John McCain and Joe Lieberman , The Wall Street Journal
09/10/2007

Today, Gen. David Petraeus -- commander of our forces in Iraq -- returns to Washington to report on the war in Iraq and the new counterinsurgency strategy he has been implementing there. We hope that opponents of the war in Congress will listen carefully to the evidence that the U.S. military is at last making real and significant progress in its offensive against al Qaeda in Iraq.

Consider how the situation has changed. A year ago, al Qaeda in Iraq controlled large swaths of the country's territory. Today it is being driven out of its former strongholds in Anbar and Diyala provinces by the surge in U.S. forces and those of our Iraqi allies. A year ago, sectarian violence was spiraling out of control in Iraq, fanned by al Qaeda. Today civilian murders in Baghdad are down over 50%.

As facts on the ground in Iraq have improved, some critics of the war have changed their stance. As Democratic Congressman Brian Baird, who voted against the invasion of Iraq, recently wrote after returning from Baghdad: "[T]he people, strategies, and facts on the ground have changed for the better, and those changes justify changing our position on what should be done."

The corporations are still making money from this war. This is an instant replay of the 1893 "Cross of Gold" economic collapse. The Western states borrowed lots of money to build lots of railroads
and open lots of silver mines. The price of Silver tanked and no one could pay.

I only wish we had build something useful with the money this time.
The US borrowed lots of money to run lots of wars and make super weapons, and everyone bought a house they could not afford.

We borrowed from China, we borrowed from Europe, we borrowed form the Arabs, and now we can't pay. In 1893 the federal government bought Silver to drive the price up. What can the Fed do now? They try to buy all that paper and the dollar will fail.

It is really too late to stop the war hemorrhaging money. lets face it, Osama bankrupted America and the terrorists won.

What is it that most folks are calling the General? Betray Us??? Yeah thats it. I don't trust him, he wants more time, gee now haven't we heard that one before? He will want to keep the troop levels the same til spring. Yeah we have heard that before too. Iraq has to pick it up sometime, and that time is now. I really get tired of hearing of how we have to stay or else it's going to shit. Well it's shit now folks. It's not our place to stay and try to keep the peace and be the police. All our troops seem to be are targets.

Hmmm...

Hitler killed himself in a bunker, Mussolini was killed by his own people, and Tojo was sentenced to death for war crimes. Looks like justice to me.

Chimp hasn't gotten justice for 3000 people murdered on American soil. He's kicking ass.

When the democrats in the United States Senate voted to unanimously confirm General David Patraeus, not one of them called a news conference to announce their immediate regret for their confirmation vote.

Now that anti military groups such as Moveon.org are pressuring the same democrats and threatening to withhold election funding, are democrats going to claim they were, once again, "duped" by President Bush?

Over the weekend, democrats already claimed that General David Patraeus would "lie" for President Bush and they "knew it all along".

Yet, not one democrat held a news conference after the General's unanimous confirmation to express such sentiments.

God bless our troops.
