New York Times:

The Academy Awards haven't exactly turned into a yearly show with Jon Stewart. But Mr. Stewart, the political satirist and star of "The Daily Show," is getting another shot at the Oscar podium.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which bestows the Oscars, is expected to bring back Mr. Stewart, who was host of the ceremony in 2006. An announcement is scheduled for Wednesday, according to two people involved with the plan who spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to talk to the news media.

"The media?" Just because what used to pass for "the news media" is now more about entertainment than information does not mean it's controlled by the same people. How much influence does Hollywood have over the news industry and, therefore, the political arena? If you don't know the difference... (yeah, I realize I'm wasting my time with this one).

I miss the days when the Acadamy Awards was a private function held at the Ambassador Hotel or the Pan Pacific.

These public circle jerks interfere with the "previously scheduled broadcasts" and make driving on the 101 hell.

Billy Crystal will always be hard to top. They need someone like him who can inject levity into the ceremonies and tastefully deflate the pompous egos that fill the place.

What about Stephen Colbert? I think he would be hilarious.

Yes, Chuck Noblet would be great, as long as he brings along Geoffrey............

Dang! Now I'll have to watch delusions of grandeur getting reinforced. Better make it worth it, Jon - and don't let all the raw material coming out of the white house go to waste.

The Academy couldn't meet Ryan Seacrest's quote? (he's hosting everything else for the foreseeable future)
Oh, right, The Academy wanted someone entertaining...

["not again! he certainly must come cheap."]

Probably not. But he is very popular with those with functional brains.

(In other words Progresives).

... Bravo and well said, totalliberal! Jon dances between self-deprecation and outright snarki-osity like a matador of humor - whirling, quick steps of verbal ju-jitsu! Live television, with it's ever-changing situations, is the perfect venue for Stewart..! :) ...

Then we have of course we have the Bush-moron who can hardly speak at all.
