Dems Launch Investigation: Rove Behind Imprisonment Of Governor?

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

New York Times:

House leaders are beginning an investigation this week of the prosecution of Don Siegelman, the former Democratic governor of Alabama who was imprisoned in June on federal corruption charges. The case could become the centerpiece of a Democratic effort to show that the Justice Department engaged in political prosecutions.

Republicans strongly deny the suggestion, and as Mr. Siegelman enters the fourth month of his 88-month sentence, the case is becoming a bitter flash point between Democratic officials and the Bush administration.

The Dems are launching a probe? We've already gotten mountains of evidence for impeachment.

In MD, the Justice Department investigated Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and her juvenile justice program at the start of the Governor's campaign. Bob Ehrlich won the governor's slot and They ultimately had nothing on Kathleen or Juvenile Justice staff. Seems the Dems need to cast a wider net, collect all the data and hone in on the most egregious cases such as the one above. But don't forget the rest of us, if MD is stuck with a political hack, s/he has to go too.

This will not accomplish anything. The Dems are traitors as well. Thats why they never really push anything and why nobody is in jail for the crimes of Iraq.

Rove will refuse to testify. The Justice Department will refuse to turn over any documents. Nancy will refuse to charge anybody with contempt. NEXT

Don't worry good old Karl Marx is out there rewiring all the voting machines, and putting together another group of Swift Boaters so he can attempt to steel another election. He has the GOPERS in Ca. trying to rewrite the campaign laws because they know they cannot get voted in so my as well change the rules in their favor! These corrupt pigs all need to go and a good many of them should be procuted! But nancy will simply have lunch with them and tell them no no, don't do that again! PATHETIC

Another thread that would unravel the whole nasty neoon ball of yarn...

...if the Dems have the courage to pursue it.

I have been waiting for weeks for this story to break nationally - I have felt it is not only about the 9 Federal prosecutors who were fired - the real story is about the 44 or so who were not fired...

That trail is the one that needs to be followed.

"Siegelman, 61, and Scrushy, 54, were convicted last year of bribery, conspiracy and mail fraud. The government accused Siegelman of naming Scrushy to a hospital regulatory board in exchange for $500,000 in donations to Siegelman's 1999 campaign for a state lottery for education."

Damn that Rove, making this poor man a criminal. Siegleman, being a Democrat, is of course innocent.

Fine, then let's also imprison for 88 months all of the Republicans who have also given political appointments after being given large donations...starting with George W. Bush.

Prison is too good for them because they would go to a camp and not to Attica or Rikers where they belong.

if you're going to shoot the king you had better make it count.

rove and company tried to take out democracy. if they had succeeded in a total purge of the justice department, that, coupled with the other actions taken (w's declared right to call martial law)

instead, like the gluttonous chicken hawks they are, they missed the shot (its a surprise that these folks arent good at warfare?) and now the king (democracy) has them on the run.

this is why rove resigned. this is why gonzo finally left the playbox.

but its too late. i predict that most if not all of the monsters will end up in prison.

this is worse than watergate, people, this was an attempted coup.

because nixon got off and because that is the main reason they monsters came back, and because people have the internet to really make ourselves heard, you can believe that whoever says they weill let them slide "for the good of the country" will be outvoted.

they are heading to prison, all right. not if. when,

I can only pray to God that you're right . I can't ever remember an Administration so reluctant to providing the information requested by Congress . Of course it fits right in with their view that the Executive Branch is preeminent . A view NOT shared by the Founding Fathers when they created the system of Checks and Balances

it has to be that way. if nixon's head had been impaled on a f;king stake in the rotunda of the capitol under plexiglass for all to see, rummy, cheney, bush and gonzo wouldnt have dared.

they are COUNTING on the same bullshit to prevail. thats the thing about wingnuts- they only know a few tricks.

they repeat the same stuff over and over. from nazi germany (no room here to cite the many similarities with what they did this time, its fairly easy to find) to the same talking points they used during vietnam.

they only tried this stuff because they thought they would get away with it. these arent macho he-men honoring their principles. they are a bunch of sissy chickenhawks trying to play chess with other people's childen and futures.

the only hope they have is to kill the internet (net neutrality would make the msm the gatekeepers of the internet)

if that doesnt happen (and i think that would finally get people rioting in the streets) then they will be held to account. sooner or later.

there is a reason they are all purchasing large estates in places with no extridition treaties...

the gig is up and they know it. all they can do now is go for broke and try to delay things as long as possible. they are pretending to fret about legacies, but really, they are fretting the consequences of having missed their main shot.

What you said sounded like heaven to my ears but I do not see anything good happening. I am always let down.
