Obama: Petraeus Hearing Should Not Have Been On 9/11

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

ABC News:

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., complained during a Senate hearing on the future of Iraq with Army Gen. David Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker, that holding the hearing on the anniversary of the September 11th attacks "perpertuates the notion" that Iraq and 9/11 are linked.

"I think we should not have had this discussion on 9/11 or 9/10 or 9/12," Obama said during his opening statement. "It perpetuates this notion that the original attacks had something to do with going into Iraq."

Obama went on to criticize what he called a failed Iraq strategy.
"This continues to be a disastrous foreign policy mistake," he said. "There are bad options and worse options."

Why do people think of O as a lightweight?

He clearly has a piercing intelligence and knows what's going on.

What a transparent scam.
Also not happy with MSNBC's reliving that day

WE ALL REMEBER !!!

WE don't need to be reminded or encourage to dredge up those gutteral reactions that lead us to our current situation in the unrelated Iraq. We've lost even more now. Let's take a day to commemorate those who have voluntarily (mistakenly) gave their lives (or at least parts of their bodies) to our nation since that FATEFUL day. And bring those who have perpetualed these loss to justice - (Bush/ Cheney/ Halliburton..).WE can catch them- for they lie within our nations capitol and commerce.
On body tolls who's leading?? Then add on top of that the number of people who are strugggling to survive day to day- Who's score is higher ?

Who writes these headlines? I read the summary of this article and then clicked to go the full ABC News story. There is never any mention of Biden and Obama having any type of exchange-sour or otherwise.

Short of direct, irrefutable evidence, Bush will not face impeachemnet and his cronies will retire with full bennies funded by us tax-paying suckers.

Of course, as usual, Obama is right...And the only dem-nom to lay it out front and center.

Biden should dropout now. And strap a muzzle on those bulldog jaws. Richardson aka Fred Flintstone might as well keep his corpulent derriere in NM. Dodd the Dud...Hillary's sycophant shill. Stop wasting your time; you have less than one tenth of one percent of the public convinced. At least GRavel and Kucinich--both equally out of the pic--make salient points during the debates.

As if we didn't already know that there is no tie between Iraq and 9/11, or Al Queda for that matter. That has been shot down by the 9/11 Comm and, even those RETARDED REPUBLICANS cannot dispute. DEAD ISSUE - PERIOD.

If Obama is so concern about the timing, he could have raised his objection way before Sept, or perhaps talk about it openly to the public. That would at least made his complain credible.

Does Obama has something more substantial to offer ? Or, will he go on talking about nuance and irrelevant diatribes.

I look at this man, and all I see is a good- looking-charismatic-sweet-talking,not-too-black-inexperience-babe, that Oprah is going gaga. Please !!!!!!!

Not way enough to get my vote.

Reason enough for you and the majority not for him.He says something you refuse to accept. It's called the truth, some can't handle it.He's not my candidate yet but he's the only candidate who respect the American people enough to be truthful with us.Unlike the rest.Truth does trump all, doesn't it.

obama get with it this so called war was not a mistake it was an illegal invasion based in imperialism.

saw biden speak on why he does not cut off funding of this war to buy ied proof humvees. the truth is the consultants over there are getting most of those vechicals not the troops.

biden is in bed with nancy and reid to win big in nov 2008. impeach all three as war criminals.

look at the lives that could have been saved if someone had stopped hitler and his lap dogs.

GO OBAMA!!! PLEASE CONTINUE TO "TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!"
06:24 PM on 09/11/2007
He's right, but because so many more have died for no reason, it will forever be tied to 9/11. The Bush Administration is at fault for more deaths than the original offense that was perpetrated against us and used as an excuse to invade Iraq.

It's disgusting, but we have to remember that those soldiers died for no reason just as the people in those towers did. It's wrong on so many levels.
04:27 PM on 09/11/2007
Why didn't Obama bring this up earlier so something could be done about it? Its not like the press is ignoring him! He has the power to shine a light on alot of problems and people would listen. Frankly I am getting tired of his 'Washington way of NOT doing things'.

Exactly! This dolt is always a day late and a dollar short!Even when the Dems control the hearings they can't get it right!!!Doesn't Biden have a calendar? Why does he have to suck along with Bushco??? The hearings should have been planned by the Dems for Thursday-so, If Chimpy wanted to speak to the nation with more lies and bullshit, it would have been on Friday night, when the trolls are getting drunk. -Or on Monday, opposite Monday Night Football and wrestling! Biden Fucked up-Obama-just shut up-or speakup IN A TIMELY MANNER!!!

dennis voted against the war and is trying to prevent the us-iran war by calling to impeach the whole bush polit bureau....obama, same old washington in different clothes

Obama seized the moment which was refreshing to see and hear. The timing could not have been worse. But then I guess it depends on the message Mr. Bush is trying to send.
