Olbermann: "Fox News Is Worse Than Al Qaeda -- Worse For Our Society"

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

Some highlights from MSNBC host Keith Olbermann's interview with Playboy magazine:

"My first special comment on Donald Rumsfeld had about a million live viewers. The number of YouTube viewings was two or three times that. It's the best advertising we can get. We get new customers from the Internet."

+++

"Al Qaeda really hurt us, but not as much as Rupert Murdoch has hurt us, particularly in the case of Fox News. Fox News is worse than Al Qaeda -- worse for our society. It's as dangerous as the Ku Klux Klan ever was."

+++

"When you've been through as much tumult as I have, you learn that age is way down on the list of what's important in a relationship. The first question is, Can you stand being with this person? If the answer is yes, the rest doesn't matter." "

KO is definitely on target. But what's this thing about age? Cozying up to Hef or defending his own cupcake at home? I don't get it.

I tape Keith every night, so I can watch it in the morning before work. Keith Olberman ...you rock and you have our utmost respect I can't even begin to write about what's happening in the world. Thanks to our illustrious commander-in-chaos we are truly the ugly Americans. Keep on keepin' on Keith

And his numbers are wrong. Apparently math is not his strong suit. Nor is judging lying politicians.
11:46 AM on 09/12/2007
Yeah. If Keith's humor is over your head, you're better off at Fox. No concentration or intellect required. No pesky thinking required.
05:45 AM on 09/12/2007
Keep talking Keith Olbermann . . .you are right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
07:24 PM on 09/11/2007
Well Olbermann's wrong-o on comparing Das News to Al Quaeda or whatever-that's a crock-but in general I do agree w/ him on things. He's a merchant of hyperbole the same as the rest in that talking Heads genre, you know? Just he slings it from the Left instead of the Right ala Bill-o.

Fox basically peaked post 9-11 and is headed downhill. Five years from now, Bill-o will be doing expose's on 'Where's Waldo' on TNT. Don't be surprised to see Ailes and Bill Kristol right behind him.

dateline......1936, Kristallnach
MSNBC.........."Last night thousands of Jewish shops were blown up. Witnesses claim that the Nazi regime has kicked off a vicious campaign to intimidate Jews with the intent that they leave Germany."
FOX NEWS...."Last night some shops sustained slight damage, cause unknown and being investigated. As usual, the Left blamed our Glorious Leader, who's spokesman, Karl Bovian, replied with, "nonsense, this crowd always blames The Reich first."
Yup, you're right. There's always two sides to every story.
We report, you decide. Fair and balanced.

He's a hack. He couldn't even cut it at ESPN.

What a scumbag. Get rid of those glasses you fatass. Stop trying to look smart.
09:16 PM on 09/11/2007
Just for the record, Olbermann left ESPN of his own volition. Implying that he was fired is more than a little dishonest.

nippersdad; you make the mistake of assuming that the right wingnuts actually care about honesty.

Shouldn't this topic be under the media tab, as opposed to the politics tab? Or had Arianna and HuffPo elevated Keith to that lofty pundit level he craves so much? Guess those special rants, er commentaries impressed the incredibly high threshold at HuffPo.

What the hell do you know about anything? You're a bu$h apologist and nothing more. Go the Fuck Away!

Excellent reply. Well grounded in logic and the use of plain English and avoiding name calling certainly keeps the discussion on a higher plane.

Thank you for your "Special Commentary".

If any of you can defend this man because of his comparison of news organizations to known terrorist organizations, you're not even worthy of being human beings. If that's the case, then you don't mind if someone murders a member of your family as long as they don't have a differing political viewpoint right??
09:14 PM on 09/11/2007
What? I am sure that there is a point in there somewhere.

I am sure that Pravda had every bit as much integrity as Fox News in its' reportage; it doesn't mean that it wasn't a mouthpiece for Stalin.

Al Jazeera posts Osama's videos, but clearly has no axe to grind as it also airs George's speeches. Fox, Pravda and Al Qaeda air only their own point of view...and that point of view can not only be ugly, but incite the worst behaviors in their respective audiences.

Fox may not actually kill people, but their actions served to push an unnecessary and illegal war in Iraq which has killed over a million people, maimed untold numbers, forced millions from their homes and bankrupted this country both morally and financially.
12:08 AM on 09/12/2007
So what is a legal war?
Bankrupted us Morally? We are the only nation to nuke civilians.
Financially? Bombs are made at Union plants evenly spread across almost all congressional districts, sub-contractors are the biggest donors to all elected officials

When we drop a bomb it isn't money burned in the desert it is paying for a plasma TV in Atlanta

it is just business

ROFLMAO! Bill-o is beginning a new regular feature tonight . . . "PINHEADS AND PATRIOTS"; "where we highlight people who are helping and hurting America". Guess that's his weak-ass response to Keith's "WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD" segment. Bets on Keith's comments about Faux news garnering him innaugural pinhead honors? lol

Poor Bill. He just doesn't see that he's become a caricature of himself.
11:43 AM on 09/12/2007
Nooooooooo! Keith was robbed! Bill-O's innaugural "Pinhead" honor went to Al Franken (or Stuart Smalley as Bill kept saying). What did Franken do to garner such an accolade? Nothing. No real reason. Bill-O just doesn't like him. Bwahahahahaha! O'Reilly is such a windbag.

K. Olberman is a little over the top with comparisons to Al-Qaeda, but he is right in the fact that Fox news appeals to the worst political instincts in our society.... Bigotry, White supremacy, xenophobia and a denial of science and factually based news.

The Republican party sees them as a mouthpiece - the reason why Fox News gets so many "exclusive" interviews with Bush administration officials.

Go get'em Keith
