Pelosi: Bush Wants 10 More Years Of War

Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after meeting at the White House with President Bush on Iraq:

"President Bush's policy announced by General Petraeus is a path to 10 more years of war in Iraq. General Petraeus' testimony to Congress drew a bright line: redeployment is not an option; endless war in Iraq is the Administration's only option.

"Under the Bush plan, 130,000 Americans will remain in harm's way in Iraq at a cost of hundreds of billions of additional taxpayer dollars. This status quo policy was rejected by General James Jones, whose recent report stated that significant force reductions are possible and that we must reduce our military footprint in Iraq.

"The Bush-Petraeus plan of 130,000 Americans in Iraq for 10 more years is not a reduction in our footprint; it is an insult to the intelligence of the American people to call that a new direction. It is a status quo plan that tells the Iraqi government that they do not need to change.

"The American people long ago rejected the President's plan to stay in Iraq, which is why they voted for a New Direction in 2006. Yet, with his veto pen and the 60-vote hurdle in the Senate, the President is preventing the redeployment of our troops, the rebuilding of our military, and the refocusing of our nation's efforts on fighting terrorism."

Gee, it seems to me Clinton, Obama, and Edwards would all keep troops in Iraq forever too. They just call them "residual troops". So, Nancy, what are Democrats going to do that is any different than the Republicans?

Nancy's 'way forward' is pretty clear, put impeachment back on the table and challenge Congress to make a decision, here. Otherwise,
it'll be more years of strong-arm tactics to rubber-stamp spending bills for all perpetuity...but, figure the odds of em doing that, maybe if they all sat down and had a vietnam-era read-a-thon and explored the reasoning behind the establishment of the War Powers Act...hold your breath for that...

If that is you view Congresswoman Pelosi, then do something about it. Impeachemnt is the answer found in our Constitution. Bring impeachment back to the table. Impeachment is the answer to the crime of this administration. Impeachemnt for lying under oath. When giving false testimony. We have two associates on the Supreme Court who lied under oath when up for confirmation. We have an administration that has lied to the American People about anything and everything. IMPEACHMENT is the anser to the question of what do we do with this president and his criminal administration.

dhfsfc . . . you are so right about pelosi and reid and other Dems in Congress . . . they keep restating the 60 votes in the senate needed for impeachment as the reason for their impotence . . . but really it is their lack of will . . . they are looking for any all all excuses not to impeach . . . talk about not moving in a new direction . .. talk about ignoring the will of the people . . . sometimes I wonder if they are just continuing to fund this invasion because they are hoping to recoup the billions from the oil contracts . . . sorry if this sounds far-fetched and crazy but . . . these guys have not been honest -- if they were serious about impeachment and ending this horrid war impeachment would be on the agenda . . . a 1,000 mile journey starts with the first step and these guys have not taken any steps towards that journey . . . they make me sick
